  • Hi Elle

Well I've had a real senior moment. We did correspond several weeks ago but I thought it was via Tripadvisor. Looking on there I can't find any record of our e-mails. Anyway I am the lady who is arriving early evening on 24th and was wondering if there would be any supermarkets still open. You said to contact you nearer the time when supermarkets migt have possted their opening times. We're staying at the Natura Gardens Appartments. Will we need to take a taxi to the supermarket if it is open? Thanks for your help.

    Hi all,
Just back from a lovely Christmas in Playa Blanca. Had a great meal at The Italian Job, thanks to Elle for that one, also enjoyed the fish restaurant by the harbour, some great fish and squid (all nicely cleaned for us, phew!) from the harbour shop, and good steaks at the seafront restaurant near the Argentinian restaurant just West of the Natura Palace.

Sadly no wifi, tho Lanzarote wi fi hire did their best, at our villa in Playa Real we didn't get a Vodafone signal and they didn't have routers for any other network - Movistar was the one that did work, although it cost us a fortune. However, one of the cafes just East of us, in fact just East of the Timanfaya Palace on the promenade, had free wifi so that was a great help. Managed a rather fuzzy Radio 4 reception on short wave from 9 - 11pm but that was it.

Thanks all for the tips and help!

was thinking of going to lanzarote for xmas 2012, after reading this forum we definately are. we never thought of renting a villa but it sounds so appealing as we prefer to sit on our balcony than at the bar and always wished the pools would stay open later. just one problem, do you get lots of cockroaches at the villas, we seen a few at gran canaria outside the hotels but dont want to be sitting out at night with cockroaches eek.

xxshazxx, we never saw any near the villa, we did see a few (at least I assume that's what they were) on paths on the estate, perhaps altogether 3 or 4 during the week. Our villa slept 8 in 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, really lovely, on playa real, between Hotel Natura Palace and Timanfaya Palace, not central but easy walk along seaside promenade, peaceful location. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

bit worried about renting a villa now, contacted someone on owners direct and they said theirs had just been booked today but i could have one 6 doors down for £600 for the week. when i googled it the villa had a different owner in this country but the price is £750. they attached an exact copy of the web page but have put their own details at the bottom. sounds a bit dodgy to me.

£600 for Christmas week sounds pretty cheap... but I wouldn't assume all villa owners dodgy, even if that one is...

I would recommend hiring a villa, once you have stayed in one you will never go back to hotels.

I recommend booking via one of the well established reputable villa management companies - for example I have always used http://www.lanzluxuryvillas.com/ and can't speak highly enough of Jennie and the team there.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............
  • Hello to all and happy new year!
I'm heading out to Playa Blanca in March for a 'special' birthday with other half
and family. Ive been to PB three times now and feel more at home there than
the UK! I'm looking for recommendations for a really nice restaurant to celebrate
my birthday with the family and also recommendations for an evening out with the
other half. We aren't picky about styles of food so anything will be gratefully received.
I seem to remember an Italian restaurant at the Marina Rubicon about 6 years ago
that was right on the water with amazing views of the sunsets, does anyone know if it is
    still there??!
  • Hi,
Anyone know if the small tapas by the natura beach and bar marea is still open?
Sure I read somewhere it was closed?
We're back in May and its the closest bar by the sea to our villa :)
I quite liked it in the there for a snack and a cold beer.

    Ta!

    To xxshazxx,

If you want to hire a villa in PB, you could use Holidaylettings as we have always done. They are very good and reliable. For this year, we booked directly with the villa owners. We can recommend without hesitation Villa Saskia in Villas del Sur (look in Holidaylettings) for a perfect place to stay.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday!!
