Me? just a nice walk and an ice cream would suffice.

He wants to hire a car too so we can get around the island. We're self catering in the bungalow. I don't need swish, but I do need quiet. I've wanted to go to Playa Blanca for a long time but I do want to put something back into the local economy. I won't be a total tightwad (I will practice). My husband, however, thinks you can ONLY have a good time if you've emptied your wallet.

Car hire is pretty cheap and it's well worth it for 2/3 days because there are some good things to see around the island. Can't think you'll need one for the whole week though. I struggled to arrange suitable car hire in advance, but it was easy and cheap once in PB, plus we got to choose when we wanted it rather than committing ourselves before we discovered just how HOT it was!

The golf bar does icey creamios too...

I liked the golf bar. Did you notice?

To be fair, even TripAdvisor has it marked on a map in the wrong place - so it's no wonder people get confused.

No probs on the Marina to Town timings. I'll bow to you there. It's probably 15 mins just to Playa Dorada.

You've just described my most hated restaurant in Playa Blanca with "Spices"... though I absolutely have to agree about the views!!

Didn't know the Golf Bar did ice creams too - soft scoop? That's a nice stop off point for a treat! I'm sure my doggies woud like it too!

Really? What don't you like about the ristorante (apart from its prices)?

Have to admit that I didn't sample the ice cream at the golf bar (I find ice cream and beer don't mix well :rotfl:), I merely noticed that lots of sweltering promenaders were stopping off for ices.

Tried eating there twice. Hated the quality. 4 different chicken curries. All tasted like boiled chunks of chicken... just in different sauces. But what was worse was the way they handled complaints. Suddenly the fluent English went out of the window. Then when we tried in Spanish, they had forgotten how to speak that too! They only spoke "shrug shoulders" language after that. We'll never go again. Others seem to like it though. A real shame, because as you say the views are phenomenal... and I do think the decor is stunning. My stepson has had takeaways from there a few times and enjoys it - but then he's 19 and as long as something is packed with food colouring and sugar, he's happy lol.

See you at the Golf Bar for a cold beer!

Sorry to hear that. As a vegetarian I encountered no problems with the chicken!

We have no immediate plans to return but we certainly have a firm intention! Not sure we'll be at the Volcan again though, it was lovely but way expensive (it was a special occasion).

Been to Corralejo a couple of times before but found PB much more to our liking. So yes, some time in the not-too-distant we'll see you on the lawn at the golf bar!

Ah... so where are your favourite veggie hotspots in the town then? I have friends that call themselves veggie, although they're actually non meat-eaters as they eat fish... and I love to try their recommendations too.
We're off out for dinner tomorrow evening actually - friends are treating us to dinner. Lovely!
Right - gotta run. Am trying to recruit some staff today!

I'm a non-fish-eating vegetarian (although not vegan) which is very limiting in Spain where such things are not widely understood!

Obviously we enjoyed Spices. There was also an Italian restaurant (I'm hopeless with names!) up a short alleyway and a few steps from the sea front, with a veranda facing out to sea. Very friendly and seemed to be genuinely Italian!

We were also able to dine very pleasantly on selections of tapas at the posh restaurant close to the marina (the last one on the promenade before the Golf Bar, the one that sticks out into the bay and where you can watch the sun go down as the nutter in the sea swims up and down for hours).

And we had a nice pizza on a boardwalk at one of the restaurants in the marina, watching the huge fish swimming around below us.

You'll be thinking of L'Artista - a real favourite of many visitors. I've been a couple of times... although I tend to frequent "The Italian Job" in CC Papagayo with the lovely Fabio.

The one towards the Marina is El Mirador - not eaten there yet... but it's on the list. It got slated when it first opened, but seems to have settled down now.

Not sure where we're going for dinner tomorrow yet... but have just found out that we've got dogsitters (aforementioned stepson) - so that's opened up our choices - result!

What do you do there? Am I right to be awfully jealous?

I hate to sound like a complete tourist to you PB-ites but are there sufficient ATM machines (ie a couple easily reached even)? We won't be doing traveller's cheques, preferring cash really. Is that safe enough do you think? Or, if we got our dinner at a cafe or something could we switch it?

Thank you, that jogs my memory, those are the very restaurants!

We were put off CC Papagayo by the tacky Irish bars and Burger King. Never discovered "The Italian Job", one for our next visit!
