  • So, back from a fantastic holiday in Playa Blanca. Thanks all the ideas of Elle, we have eaten good and seen interesting places.

For a good and very reasonable restaurant I give you the idea of restaurant Tipico Espanol, Avenida Papagayo, 33, Playa Blanca
  • We got back early hours of this morning. Had a wonderful time...2 weeks not enough. Didn't want to come home. Great apartments, great location, lovely weather and lots of do and see.
We used the buses all the time - went to Arrecife a few times including once to experience an evening there, once for the football (I recommend all football fans to try and catch a UD Lanzarote game while over there...it's the 4th tier of Spanish football but was very impressed with how they played and can't complain for 5 Euros entry anyway!) and once to change to get the bus to Playa Blanca.
I love all 3 resorts (we also used the bus to get to Puerto Del Carmen) and would go back to any of them! :T

Going to put a few reviews online for some of the restaurants we visited (spolit for choice in Costa Teguise and managed to find very good ones in Playa Blance and Puerto Del Carmen) as well as the apartments we stayed in which were called El Guarapo.

Just got back from a great holiday in Playa Blanca (as always). Just wanted to say how good the medical services are there and how cheap the prescriptions are !
My wife unfortunately developed an abcess in her mouth while we were there so went along to the medical centre next to La Bocaina with her E111 card and they dealt with her very quickly and efficiently. They gave her 2 prescriptions for antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and we went to the chemist for them - the total cost was the princely sum of 5 euros !

Despite going to Playa Blanca many times this was our first time staying in the west of the resort in Playa Burgado and have to say we found it to be fantastic. The local cafes (particularly the Lighthouse Cafe) were excellent and the La Moka bakery is just devine - think we'll be staying in the Faro Park area all the time from now on.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............

    Hola Bransby!

You're a bit thin on the ground for restaurants around there I'm afraid. There are a couple of cafes (in the entrance to Ropers). However... there is a free bus that runs every half an hour into mid evening... or a taxi would be about €5 each way to the town centre. The nearest group of restaurants would be at the Marina, which is about a 45 minute walk along the promenade from your villa.

As for child friendly - they all are... so don't worry about that.

    Hope that helps!

    Elle xx

Thanks for this Elle. Sounds like a bus in and a cab ride home is a good plan then!

Went to Playa Blanca for the day, for the first time on our hol in PDC last week. We went on a Wed, had a lovely time looking round the market. Had lunch then went to the beach.
We liked it so much we popped back for a couple of hrs later in the week.

We are going back to PDC in around 7 weeks, so might visit again. :)

    hi Elle,

I was hoping I could pick your brains about accommodation in playa blanca....

I will be travelling along with 6 adults to lanzarote for a week on 11th february 2012. there will be 3 couples and a single adult so will require 4 bedrooms, 3 of them being doubles.

we are undecided as to book a hotel on a half board or all inclusive basis or to find a nice villa in the resort and use any money saved by doing this towards eating costs for the week.

so I would be very graTeful if you could recommend any nice villas in the resort that fit our requirements, or give your opinion on the 'papagayo arena' hotel in the resort which we have priced up should this be the option for us.

thanks for any advice you can share for us ,

    kind regards,
    simon

    Hi Fill,
We have stayed in a lovely villa on the playa real estate:
    https://www.playarealvillas.com
When I say estate, it's about 30 villas in a private area right by the sea, and ours was really handy with one bedroom/bathroom separate from the others if you have someone who, say, goes to bed early and wants to be peaceful. Ours was no.4. Owner very nice and helpful.
    hth!

Hi Elle and others who know these things!
Was kindly advised of this thread, am wondering how to keep the cost of eating down a bit having spent rather a lot during a fab week there last year. We are staying at Playa Real Villas, and want to eat out sometimes (with a fussy old relation who likes to eat plain/English food) and two teens. My husband and I like trying local food but we're in a minority and have to do a bit of give and take to keep the peace!

I know it might sound a bit sad but I was debating the idea of taking, eg a bag of frozen bolognese sauce, (I think it's legal, within the EU, to take meat products?) to get one cheap and easy meal, as local supermarkets seemed very dear. I do understand you can't exactly grow crops on Lanzarote like in other places, given the soil, but want to contain the costs of eating in and out a bit better than last year.
