Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but am I right in assuming that we shouldn't be drinking the tap water? It's ok to make tea and brush your teeth with though?
Personally I won't drink the tap water here. I used to use it for tea... but it is not cleaned in the same way as it is in the UK and Ireland. It won't kill you... but it can taste a bit musty. Some of it is stored in open air concrete bunkers... so imagine what could crawl into it and fester!
For your teeth it's absolutely fine - and I peel our spuds in tap water too. But for cooking, drinking, and making tea etc... then I choose to use bottled water or filtered. We actually bought a water filter a few months back and wouldn't be without it now.

Hi Elle,
We've just 'discovered' your Playa Blanca Guide and have read every post. What a find - thank you very much for all the brilliant info and advice!
We are coming back to Playa Blanca on 9th June ( only 4 sleeps to go!), staying in Villas del Sur - not far from HiperDino and the wonderful Roper. It is our second visit - we were there on October last year and loved it so much that as soon as we got home, we booked the villa next door to the one we stayed in for this year's holiday! If this is as good as last year (and we've no reason to think not) we are looking at making it a regular 4 week winter break ( great to be retired, eh?!); what do you think about February?
Thanks again for the great advice.

Hi Ian, Muriel, Carol and Wilson! I'm so pleased that you've been finding it of use to you - mission accomplished!!!
Villas de Sur are very close to where I live... so make sure you give me a wave ha ha ha! It's been a little cloudy the last couple of days... and windy too. But the cloud is burning off in the afternoons, and the wind dropping... ... ... so you won't miss out on a sun tan.
February is a great month to get away... as the temperature is in the low to mid twenties - a nice contrast to what you'll be leaving behind. Quite similar to October / November really. There is however, quite a high risk of rain. It won't be all day every day... so you'll still get some rays.
Have a fantastic time... and if you see a blonde lady out walking 2 black labradors... then do come and say hello!

Hi, wondered if you could help.....? We have been to Lanzarote a few times...playa pocillos, Costa Tequise, but was a few years ago. Looking to visit again and liking the sound of Playa Blanca but wondered if the resort would be suitable for my family (we have two teens 13 & 15). Mostly I suppose would be the choice of hotel. We would like a 4 or 5 star, All Inclusive with plenty of activities to keep them amused and some nice bars/restaurants for evening. Any suggestions? Had looked at Playa Flamingo but not sure if it would be more suited to little toddler children? Any help most appreciated!!0

Hello lappish - yes, Playa Blanca is very much a family resort... and your teens will be fine.
For hotels... I'm probably not the best expert to advise you - but I would say that it's worth looking at Papagayo Arena and the Gran Castillo. Princesa Yaiza is undoubtedly the best... but they don't do AI. Maybe someone else can pass on their recommendations in here for you. Playa Flamingo is a nice location, and fab for young families - but when I was in there all I could hear was a huge amount of kiddies noise... mainly a lot younger than yours. That's not to say they don't cater for teens... but I'm not sure.
To be fair... most of the hotels are a little light on bars & restaurants, but tghere is plenty going on in the town itself if you fancied a wander.
Enjoy!

Hi
I'm due to go to Playa Blanca in mid july for two weeks. I've never been to Lanzarote and wanted to ask a few questions re spending
1) can I use a credit card for purchases in the supermarket and shops?
2) are they plenty of cash machines in PB?
we normally stay in hotels but have rented a villa for the first time ever. We will need to get some supplies in to make snacks and tea and coffees, wine etc and I was wondering whether I need to pay in cash (euros) or by credit card. I don't want to run out of money!
thanks in advance for your helpThe Cabbage

Hello cabbage - no probolem at all to use your credit card - but they will want to see some form of photographic ID... so carry your driving license or passport with you or they won't accept it.
And yes, there are plenty of cashpoints around too.
Have a great time!

thanks Elle, that's very useful to know.
Its because of your thread that I am visiting Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. Can't thank you enough for all your tips! I have been through all the pages and printed out the information we will need.
You've covered some nice wine in the supermarkets but have you any recommendations for lager? The Cabbage
Its Advice - Take it or Leave it:D0 -
Am very happy to help... so I'm glad you're finding it useful!
I'm not a lager expert... so can only advise on personal taste. Look for the small cans of Supersol. The cans are red, white and yello... and are Hiperdino's own brand. They are often on offer too... making them cheaper than water. I quite like it as long as it's ice cold. However, the reason I like it is because it's not too strong in flavour... which might make it less than popular with you. Wuld is often on offer too (25 centimos a can this week for example) but I find it too strong a flavour. That's the supermarkets covered. In the bars you will get Estrella and Tropical. You cab buy the usual Budweiser and Heinekn in bottles... but in my opinion, an ice cold draught beer in an iced glass is lovely!
Cheapest place for a large beer is Cafe Puerto usually, up a side street in the pedestrianised area of the town centre - up the harbour end of the centre. That's €1.50 for a large one.
Disfruta! (Enjoy!)

Hi Elle,
Just to let you know that we had a super holiday in PB - 9 to 23 June - and to say thank you very much for all the advice/info on your pages - it was a great help to us. Sorry we didn't see you or the dogs - maybe next time!
Thanks again, kid.
