Hi Elle Visiting PB 14th July for two weeks. Can you recommend any bars/restaurants to visit? Ill be with my wife son(17) daughter (20).
Also do you know whether the Hyper dino supermarkets accept Amex?
Thanks for all the over info you've posted im reading it during today.0 -
Hi AndyLou2007. No problem to recommend some places to eat. What kind of food do you like? And whereabouts in the town will you be staying? That info will gear the answers I give you.
I don't know if the Hiperdinos accept Amex... sorry! I know that not many restaurants (if any) do though... as a friend couldn't use his when he was over. I'd look at other options if I were you... just to be on the safe side.

Hi
can you clarify something for me please Elle? I understand that Euro's are used in Lanzarote but I've heard that it is not classed a Europe in terms of duty free allowances - is that correct? The Cabbage

Hi Elle,
Thanks for reply on Amex it has been a problem wherever I travel to :-(.

We've booked through this company before and have found them to be excellent which probably answers an earlier thread of yours.
As a family we like a variety of food, especially chinese, italian and tapas.
I'm sorry I have another question if you can help?
My son and I would like to try sea fishing, we've not done it before and wondered whether you know of anybody you can recommend?
Thanks again

Hi Cabbage - yes, that's correct. We are not part of the EU, so we have stricter duty free allowances. Currently, the limits are:
Tobacco - 200 Cigarettes OR 250grms Tobacco OR 50 Cigars.
Alcohol – 1 Litre of Spirits OR 2 Litres of Sparkling or fortified wine, plus 2 litres of still wine.
60cc of Perfume OR 250cc of Eau de Toilet.
Hi again Andy. Nice villa, and really close to the town centre too. That opens up your options.
Right...
Chinese - come from your villa and go to the town centre beach. Stand with your back to the water and look left. The first Chinese restaurant you come to is called "China City" and is very good.
Carry on past there and you reach Pedro's which is supposedly the best place for fish. I've never eaten there though... only stopped for drinks... and I din't like the frosty reception that most Brits tend to get. I carry on past there to La Chalanita which is next door and on the first floor. Jose and Roman are excellent hosts, and their flambees are the speciality. Fab fish dishes... and my favorite pace for paella. It is a little pricier than the other seafront places... but I personally feel that you get what you pay for.
Tapas - Bodegon Las Tapas which has a balcony overlooking the sea. Fab views and decent tapas. That's further along past La Chalanita. But if you're not fussed about the views... and want great tapas - then outside Huperdino in the town centre is a little tapas place. Stand with your back to Hiperdino's entrance, and it is diagonally right... almost at the end of the little parade there. Fabulous estofado (beef stew) there!
Italian - my absolute favourite is "The Italian Job", which is in CC Papagayo, the Burger King complex. The owner, Fabio, is a lovely fella and makes his own pasta. His pizzas are the best in the resort, and his canneloni is to die for! I popped in and saw him last night actually. He was very excited to be showing as "number one restaurant in Playa Blanca" on TripAdvisor. I had to burst his bubble though... because that was on the Italian version, not the British one. But if his countrymen have voted his place number one in PB, then it has to be good! There is also L'Artista, which has an excellent atmosphere (reflected in the bill though... watch the pricey bottles of Pinot Grigio - ouch!) and do grab a balcony table if you can. Worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Sea Fishing - there is no longer a boat doing it from Playa Blanca... so you'd need to get to Puerto Calero. The boat is called Mizu, and more info is here: http://www.lanzarotefishing.com/english.asp he is well know on the island and success is the norm, rather than the exception.
Hope that helps!

You are very welcome Andy - have a lovely time!
Am not out much at the moment as work is keeping me so busy... but I've managed to squeeze in a couple of social engagements and heard today that a friend is coming to us for a week from the 23rd. But if you see a woman with blonde hair walking two enthusiastic Labradors - that's 99% going to be me. It's quite entertaining when I'm pootling along and random people come to say hello. So if you see me... mine's a large dry white wine!
