Hi Aaron - glad you like the thread!
Yes I know Sun Beach fairly well. It's not a luxury hotel... but if you're after clean and basic in a terrific location, then it ticks the boxes. We have family that have stayed there all inclusive. They said the food was fine... but got a bit boring after a few days. But you can always go out for dinner if you fancy it anyway. I do know that the wine at Sun Park is like vinegar... so stick to beer, spirits and soft drinks if you don't want to lose your taste buds.
Come out of your hotel, and turn right. At the crossroads... go straight over, and just keep heading forward and you'll reach the promenade (5 mins walk from your hotel). Just there is Playa Dorada where you can sunbathe to your hearts' content. If you turn right there... you'll come across a commercial centre in about 2 minutes. It's got Burger King flags flying, if you need a landmark. Anyway, in there is where you can head to at night if you want to party. Start at Wax Bar, and then move either downstairs to Jungle, or upstairs to the Sports Bar. Don't expect Ibiza... as Playa Blanca is far from that... but if you're after a party... then you'll find one somewhere. There are also a couple fo decent Irish bars in there... so you could grab some live music too.
October weather can be a little changeable. But don't worry... if it's a little cloudy, still slap on the sun cream as you can still burn. If it does rain, it should only be a shower at that time of year... if anything! It will certainly still be quite warm and should be a darn sight drier than where you've flown out from. Oh and the sea is at its most swimmable in October too!
Elle xx
Thank you very much!
Sounds exactly what we want and expect, cant wait now, bring on October!
I think the Playa Blanca Tourist Board should most definitley be paying you haha
Thank you again, all the best!0 -

I've just started to plough my way through this brilliant thread, as last night I booked a week at the Holiday Village Playa Blanca in 4 weeks' time for me and my 5yo DS :j. Reading all the fantastic info and advice is making me really excited! I think I'll be printing lots of it off to take with me but most of all I'm just looking forward to some sunshine, nice food, relaxation and a lovely time with my son.
If I see you walking the Labs Elle, I'll give you a shout!0 -
Glad it's of use Cuba Cat!
Feel free to ask any questions - because even if I can't help... someone else in here should be able to.
And yes... do say hello if you see me out with my fluffy boys!

Zumba eh? Is that at the Hesperia? With the lovely Ann? Enjoy!

Hi Elle
Weather is ok. Overcast but warm am and sunny from 1pm onwards and much better than the uk at the moment so no complaints there!
Yes, zumba is with the lovely Anne at the Hesperia (near the hairdressers inside the hotel) monday and weds at 7pm and Fridays at 10 and costs 4 euros. Not doing it today as it's too early to be jumping around when I am on holiday!
The friendliest place is the lighthouse cafe in faro park. Their credit crunch brekkie was great.
Had a bit of trouble finding hyperdino but have found it now. Same goes for Ropers but that's easy now as u just follow the blue signs from the princess yaiza hotel.
Need to explore the Marina and hit the beaches.
Did a Segway tour from the shopping complex where ropers is - that was exciting.
Been to the volcano which was good except for the queue to get into the top car park. This was at one pm and it took about 45minutes bur when we came down at three ish there was no queue. It was a fantastic experience and cost 8 euros per person including the bus tour and straw burning and water/steam demo.
You suggested trying Autoreisen for car hire. We dropped off a friend at the airport and mentioned our car didn't have an aerial and they swapped our car free of charge to brand spanking new one! We only wanted an aerial and the also said to bring it back with an empty
Tank as we had already put fuel in the old one. V pleased.
Once again thanks for the great info, I'll have to buy you a drink if I see youThe Cabbage

You're still more energetic than I am - I don't know if I fancy Zumba. I love the concept... but am a lazy lady!
Yes - the Lighthouse is my favourite place in the town for a cooked brekkie... and it's usually the credit crunch one we have too. Say hi to Steph from me (she'll know me from Canary Nightlife though... not from this site).
Marina is best on a Wednesday and Saturday morning when the market is on... as there's a great atmosphere. Lani's grill does a market day paella for I think €7 per person. I believe it's normally ready around 1pm, but you can always got check with Johnny before then.
Hubby took our friend up to Timanfaya the otehr day and turned back when they saw the queues. They've gone up to Orzola, Jameos del Agua, Cuevas de Los Verdes and Costa Teguise today... so all's quiet here meaning I can get loads done!
How fab that Autoresien looked after you so well. They are keen to protect their good reputation - and once again they've come up trumps!
Enjoy the rest of your break love!

Hi again Elle,
I've read this thread start to finish now and it's truly brilliant - I'm beginning to wish I'd booked SC rather than AI now, as I'm dying to try out all these lovely-sounding restaurants and supermarkets! I had a couple of questions for you but annoyingly one has slipped my mind, grrr. However the other one is, does Playa Blanca have a minigolf course?
Hopefully I'll remember the other question before we come over!
Thanks,
CC x0 -
Ah... but you can always sneak out for some tasty food in the restaurants too! Although I do keep the original post regularly updated... I should go through and edit my subsequent replies, just in case there is incorrect stuff on there.
Yes, Playa Blanca has 3 mini golf courses. One is behind the "Estacion de Guaguas" (Bus station). With the front of the bus station on your right... turn right immediately afterwards, and it's a couple of hundred yards up on the right. It was closed previously though... so unsure if open again. There's also one at the shopping centre behind the Marina Rubicon.
The best though, is a pitch and putt in the grounds of the Hesperia hotel, which is best accessed from the promenade... between Playa Dorada and the Marina.
Enjoy! And add in that extra question when you remember it love.
