Hi, where is the best central quiet place for us to stay?0
-
HI Alice. Have a look at Los Calamares. Just a 10 minute stroll into town, and contains lots of nice private quiet villas. Do check with the agent or villa owner that you're not going to be nextdoor to barking dogs or rowdy kids though. Unfortunately, they won't know who is booked in next door... but it can narrow down the likelihood for you.
If you also look at Parque del Rey, that's 15 minutes from town... and lovely (I used to live there). nice and quiet there too... of course dependant upon who is next door at the time. But in my two years of living there, I only ever had to complain about a neighbour once.
Good luck!

Hi Elle Hope you don't mind me asking but we will be coming to Playa Blanca in August. We have been twice before but stayed on the outskirts and it wasn't a good idea as we had my elderly mum with us!! We have booked into Casa Innismore which is on Las Terrecitas - can we believe that it is only 5 minutes to walk into town and only 5 to Playa Flamingo? Also, do you know if we would get more euros for our pounds if we exchange our cash in Playa Blanca or would we be better exchanging it at home before we leave? Ruthie0

Hi Elle,
I have been reading all your threads over the last year and more. It sounds great, we are flying over next saturday for 2 weeks, we normally stay in the Rubicon (well once before lol) but have gone for a Villa this time in Montana Roja. Do you know it at all? We have two children 8 and 6, do you recommend any 'child friendly' places to eat? I also read your bit about the Eletronic shops, well wish knew that the first time we were there!! Spent a bomb in there unfortunately!!! Thank again for your interesting read.

Thanks Elle, I'll have a look online. Also will the weather still be hot at the end of September early October?

Hi elle sorry to ask but whats the night life like in playa blanca in september ? Is there still a nightlife even though its not the summer. Is there a choice of places to drink. Puerto del carmen is apprently livier than playa blanca but would you say thats correct.0

Hi Ruthie - great location you've got there! Enjoy! Yes, you can always get abtter rate here than back in Blighty. However, it is such a minimal difference, that we always recommend you use a bank card instead. If you do want to change your cash though... head to the Indian shop called SARA in the pedestrianised area on Playa Blanca. Elle xxxx
Hi Lesley-Ann. Yes Montaña Roja is a fairly substantial area between the volcano itself and Playa Flñamingo. Some gorgeous villas in there! Glad you've found the thread useful. I just wish you'd seen it before you went last time. Could have saved you some money love. Elle xxxx
Alice - yes it will be lovely and hot! Probably around 23 degrees then. It might be a little cloudy in the mornings, but it will burn off around lunchtime to blue skies. Don't forget sun cream in the cloud though - that's when most people get burnt here. Elle xxxx
DCFC79 - hellooo! There ius alwaya a party going on somewhere in playa Blanca. However, if youy are expecting Ibiza you will be very disappointed. Yes, Puerto del Carmen has more of a party scene than Playa Blanca... especially around the Centro Atlantico area (nipper is up there some weekends). There are simply more bars in Puerto del Carmen as it is a longer resort than Playa Blanca. Hope that helps hon xxxxI'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!0 -
Thank you Elle- Is the food very expensive compared to Tesco in Playa Blanca? If so are there any cheaper supermarkets you know of? Thank you. xx0
-
Hi Alice. I haven't shopped in Tesco for a number of years now. When I first moved over, I would say that yes it was more expensive.... but the price of food has mainly come down here since... whereas I hear your prices have gone up? Stick to local brands here and you'll be fine. But if you are buying branded goods... you'll definitely pay more.
My weekly food shop for 3 adults is probably around €70 per week including cheap wine... but we rarely buy UK branded stuff. I also cook most of our meals from scratch... so no cooking sauces etc (which ARE expensive here in my opinion).
Bring your own teabags and coffee... sugar is cheap though.
Bring your own packet sauce mixes if you have particular favourites.
The meat and fish is fab quality and cheaper than you'll be used to.
Bread is a similar price... but English bread is very pricey. The Bimbo bread is popular here, but a little sweet for many palates. If that's the case with you, try "Pan de Molde" which is a similar price but not as sweet. Most supermarkets have freshly baked baguettes etc too. Only eat them on the same day as they go hard quickly in this climate... or freeze them for later use.
We also have Iceland here, who deliver for free on orders over €20. I got mine through a couple of days ago. They deliver to Playa Blanca on Mondays and Thursdays. You can see the catalogue HERE and register online - but don't order until the day or two before you want the delivery. They accept cash, and debit and credit cards... but I don't know about UK debit and credit cards, so you should check with them. Bear in mind that the range is way more limited than Blighty... but still handy for many of us.
Hope that helps a little!

Hi Elle,
Had a great time at Timanfaya Palace back in June, was thinking about flying over for christmas ( I know its way to early to mention the C word! ) but I was just wondering ( a rough idea ) about what the weather is like in december? I know anything can happen when weather is concerned but I thought I'd just see.
Thanks0
