Elle - Looking at the pics for the Villa Elly, it's located in Parque Del Ray and seems detached but in very close proximity to the other properties. One of the neighbours' looks like it has a direct view of the villa's pool! Is this configuration normal for this area? I've been tossing up between this villa and the ones in Los Calamares, which look semi-detached but seem more private as it looks like they have higher walls around them?0

Hiya - I love Parque del Rey... and used to live there. Some of them are very private, but others are more exposed... as you say. However, all of them have at least one window overlooking from another property. I don't know exactly which villa this is (we went by numbers more than names) but the photos show the pool at the rear of the property not the front... so apart from the odd neighbour being able to see you if they're in a bedroom... you won't have people walking past.
Los Calamares is also lovely... and certainly closer to town. Parque del Rey is certainly not 10 minutes walk from town as the advert claims... it's more like 20.
Both areas are lovely - but if you really do have concerns... why not contact the holiday company and ask them the straight question. If they're worth their salt, they'll be able to answer you properly... or at least put you in touch with someone who can. Alternatively, email info@lanzarotelates.com and tell them your requirements. We have a friend who comes over 2 or 3 times a year... and has discovered the joys of private villas (he is a very very private person) - he's booked with them both times and has been extremely happy.
Good luck!

Hi Elle. We are staying at the holiday village resort in a couple of weeks time. Hope you can help us with a couple of quick questions.
What is the flamengo beach like at the mo, is it sandy and safe for a child?
Also which shop is the cheapest and within walking distance to buy nappies, wipes and baby milk from?
Thankyou xx0 -
Hello love. Yes, the Flamingo beach is absolutely fine for a youngster. It is mainly covered by sand... with just a few patches remaining stony.
For nappies etc... come out of your hotel onto the main road and turn right. Keep going past the port, and the road forks into two. Take the right hand fork and keep going until the metal wall ends. Turn left there (you'll see a parking sign up on the wall to your right on that side road). Follow that road all the way round, past the police station. You'll see a small ramp and some steps to your right. Go down there, and Hiperdino is on the left - you can't miss it. It's probably a 20 minute walk from your hotel.
There is a Spar just before the port, on your right - but I don't know if they sell nappies I'm afraid. Buy Dodots nappies... they are the Spanish version of Pampers. I know there's baby wipes and food in there... but I'm unsure about milk. Ask in your hotel for the nearest Farmacia for milk, if they don't sell it. I can direct you to a Farmacia... but I think there may be one closer to your hotel.

Hi Elle! Great guide, thanks for sharing!!
I am looking for a holiday for 2 between the dates of 21/10/11 - 31/10/11 so a 7 - 10 night holiday.
My appologies if these questions have already been asked, there is a lot to read through lol.
What is the weather usually like that time of the year? i've read online it averages at 27c in Lanzarote, but would be nice to know from someone living there the last few averages and typial weather to expect.

We like a good mixture of old town and new. Is there a particular area where i can enjoy authentic spanish culture, so old cobble streets, local places of interest, fishing, small cafes, But also have the option of good beach, and good bars/restaurants.
Hope i 've not repeated too much,

Hi there Kayke_dee! Thanks for your kind comments - am glad it is of use.
The weather at the end of October is always warm... but there is a slim risk of rain. You could be lucky and it not come until a fortnight later though. As for an average of 27 degrees... not at that time... I'd say more like 23 - 25 degrees. Even if it is cloudy or hazy though... there is still a high risk of sunburn, so don't forget your cream.
Playa Blanca's original Old Town area is still quite modern. The original town is still there on the seafront... but the money has always been poured in to keep it up to date. Definitely no cobble streets. Yes to fishing - loads of good spots for that (although hubby isn't that successful ha ha ha). Small cafes are no problem, and there are plenty of fish restaurants. Beaches are no problem either. For local places of interest, definitely hire a car or do some excursions. In particular you should visit Timanfaya (Fire mountains) and Cesar Manrique's house.
If you're looking for a quaint Spanish village with tiny cobbled lanes and only the old Spanish feel to the place... then you will be disappointed. However, if you want a nice, clean, shiny town with plenty of great places to eat, drink, sunbathe etc... then Playa Blanca does tick all those boxes.
Hope that helps!

Hi Elle,
Great guide, I'm heading back out to Playa Blanca next month, haven't been over for a few years now, is Sandras the cafe still going? In town, down a few steps opposite the taxi rank, used to do lovely coffee and croissants, all ran by ladies.
Just wondered! Thanks0 -
Hey there. Yes... Sandra's is still there, and going strong. They have new signage now - which looks much more modern. Have a great time! xxxxxI'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!0
