  • Glad to hear it, sassysar! Here's to next year's holiday for you!

Grey & overcast in Playa Blanca today... but still a darn sight warmer than UK & Irelanbd right now... so good for anyone arriving.

  • Hi Ellie,

We are coming to Playa Blanca staying at the Dream Castilo on the 13th Jan and just wanted to know who are the best Airport transfers to book with.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Diddylids. Definitely book through Karsten at https://www.t4you.eu If you book a private transfer and mention my name (drop him an email via the site) he'll give you a discount too. That's only for private transfers though... not shuttle. We use him ourselves and recommend him without hesitation.

Hi Elle, thanks a lot for the very helpful info in this thread. We're coming to Playa Blanca end Jan, have booked at the HL CLub Playa Blanca. A few questions please (some silly!)
Have you heard of any bad reviews of the hotel?
Is the sea warm enough for the kids to go into-knee deep etc?
How much is the ferry to Fuerteventura?
Where can we book for the submarine ride/volcano trip we've been told are must dos?
Could you recommend a good tourist souvenir shop in PB?
    Thank you very much again!

Hello Storm. No problem to help at all! And NO questions are silly!! Might be a bit of a delay for me replying to stuff at the moment as work is very busy... but I get there eventually. Just drop me a PM nudge if I don't get back to you within a day or so, just in case I've missed something.

Haven't heard any bad bad reviews... but I'd advise looking at TripAdvisor if you're unsure.

Kids are generally braver than me... so I'm sure they'll be fine knee deep. There are plenty of people in the sea as we speak - even though it's too cold for me (I'm a wuss in case you hadn't guessed).

The ferry to Fuerte can vary a lot. Compare prices with Armas and Fred Olsen by visiting the harbour when you arrive. Armas is usually cheaper, but Fred Olsen often has special offers on. The best way to book though, is to find the Last Minute Travel Shop which is in the Marina, behind Cafe del Mar. They have some super family deals on all year round - and consistently seem to be the cheapest. This is also where you can book the volcano tour and submarine trip. But... if you're hiring a car, then it's best to do it direct. You'll save a lot on the volcano tour doing it that way... but the difference with the submarine trip isn't a lot doing it direct.

For tourist souvenirs... there's a really good shop in the Rubimar Shopping Centre behind the Marina, and plenty of shops on the seafront - or even better is the market which is on in the Marina every Weds & Sat morning.

    Hope that helps!

    Enjoy!

  • Hi Elle,

Thanks for all the great information! We are moving to Playa Blanca next Thursday and are all very excited!
    Any advise for us newbies?
We will be staying at Costa Papagayo and have heard there is primary school there, Queens I think. Have you heard any reports on it?
Also will be arriving with more luggage than normal and 2 kids bikes! Any suggestions for getting from the airport to PB?
Thanks for any gems of wisdom you may have! xx

Hello hello to a new Playa Blanca resident! I'll drop you a PM shortly with my phone number... feel free to call if you need help with anything honey. One work of advice - if you have opne of the villas in Costa Papagayo that has the slope DOWN to the house... then be prepared for the heavy rains due anytime soon. It will only last a day or so, but those villas are the ones that come off the worst - so keep everything up off the floor. If it's on a level though, you'll be fine.

Yes, there's a primary school at Costa Papagayo, but I think it's a private one (I'll stand corrected if not). There's a state school up Calle Europa, which is closer to Montaña Roja - probably a 15 - 20 minute walk from where you'll be living (which is a lovely area by the way!) and the kids that come out of there seem to do really well, and are ultra polite.

Regarding getting from the airport - have a chat to Karsten via info@t4you.eu and tell him your circumstances. Am sure he can come up with something creative for you... and certainly cheaper than getting a cab! Mention my name for a discount on a private transfer too.

Not sure if you've seen it - but have a look at https://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk It's my non-commercial blog, and has a new article on it most days. I'd love to interview you for it, once you're settled in. Entirely up to you of course... no pressure!

    Yell if you need me!

    Hi Elle

We are going to Lanzarote on 14 July for 14 nights. Do you have any recommendations for car hire? Would be looking to hire a car for the whole time. There will be 3 adults.

    thanks

Hi Tessa. I'm afraid I can't help much there. I know that hubby has used "Posh Cars" a couple of times... but that's because they give him a residents' discount.

Friends of ours always use Autoreisen... so they might be worth a try - and I believe you can pick up their cars from the airport too.

    Good luck!
