Yeah - we watched that programme too! Don't worry honey. Your EHIC card will see you right! And you do need to check the policy details... but check that they'll fly you home if any problems.

If you have any problems whilst here - then drop me an email to info@lanzaroterelocation.co.uk (I check them from 9am until 6pm daily) and I can probably help. I'm no ambassador... but can probably point you in a safe direction. I do not recommend any private doctors in Playa Blanca. This is not because they are bad (so please don't take me to court lol) but simply because I don't have personal experience. Howeber... a good friend of mine is a private doctor in Puerto del Carmen and he covers Playa Blanca too - he also covers Insuranbce cases sometimes too. Anyhoo - if stuck drop me an email. Or if it gives you peace of mind, drop me an email before you travel and I'll give you my phoen number. I just don't want to put that publicly.

  • Hi

I have just been looking at your guide to playa blanca. We are coming for a holiday in two weeks time and we are staying in a self catering complex. We have a 10month old baby who is inbetween eating our foods and baby jars. Do you know what the supermarkets are like for buying baby food and supplies such as nappies and wipes? I am worrying about how much luggage allowance we have and how much I will need to bring in case I can't get it out there. Any information would be brilliant.

    Thanks
    Yvonne.

Hiya Yvonne. You can easily get baby food in the supermarkets... and nappies, wipes etc in the Pharmacies. The brand of nappies here is Didots - which I am reliably informed are just as good as Pampers.

I can't help with prices unfortunately... but at least you know they're easily available.

One thing you might want to check is whether your accommodation can supply a blender for you - then you could make up your own baby food more cheaply. I know that some villas and apartments do have them in.

Good luck... don't worry... and have a great holiday!

We're currently in playa blanca with a six month old:j

Nappies - buy the local brand "do dots" they cost 23 euro's for 76 and are as good as pampers ( pampers & swim nappies etc are double the price) Get a reusable swim nappy from ebay ,i paid about £4.

Baby jars - Not a great selection - My poor DS has been alternating between chicken and carrot & ham and carrot !!!!

baby wipes - again readily available, buy the local brand as johnsons etc are expensive.

Everything is readily available in the supermarkets, there just isn't quite the selection thats in the uk. Price wise I'd say stuff is more expensive than back home - but then again I tend to stock up on offers at home. They don't appear to be into BOGOF's here.
Try and get your stuff from the "hippodino" supermarket as it seems to be the cheapest (there is one is the town center)
If your LO is having follow on milk then bring your own - there's not a good selection and its very expensive.

We are lucky enough to be here for 4 weeks,so we had no choice but to buy everything here, but I'd bring as much as you can.

Anything else feel free to ask & I'll try to help.

PS weather a bit rubbish today - was raining at 8.30 this am .

Yvonne - Just checked prices of baby food. a large jar is 1,20 euro, but like I said there isn't a great variety

Pampers Nappies were 9.78 euro for a small pack and swim nappies the same !!

Have just been and bought some Aptimil milk and it was 19 euro

  • Hi,
This is a brilliant thread, I have printed off the best bits for our stay next week in Casa del Sol.

Does anyone know how easy it would be to hire car in PB at the moment?
We were hoping to arrange something before we go, but there seems to be a lack of hire car availability for next week , but that was mostly looking at the big car hire operators.

We are looking at a couple of days hire to do the tourist sights, the rest of the time will be spent on the beaches of PB!
