Hi, we came back from the holiday village on 1st July. We had an excellent time - in fact hubby is in post hol depression and we are looking to go back in August!!! The staff were so helpful and would do anything to help. The kids had a whale of a time - they enjoyed the kids clubs and evening entertainment so much. My little one really wanted to 'fix the glitch' (you'll see!!) and the lovely Kerri sorted it out for him. The beach was not open as has already been mentioned, and it didn't look as though it would be finished for a little while - although they were working on it most days. It isn't a problem though as it doesn't take long to walk to the little beach in Playa Blanca and the hotel puts a bus on to another beach which I think is a little further away. I'm sure you will have a great time.

    Hi Blondie

Woohoo has already pointed out that Playa Flamingo is still closed. Rumours are flying around here that the workmen are about to go on a 6 week holiday (I'm in the wrong job!!) which could possibly mean that it doesn't get started again until September. Hopefully this is just the usual rumour mill doing the rounds.

But... don't let that put you off. Woohoo mentioned the free bus. Yes - it takes you to Playa Dorada in about 8 - 10 minutes and is a great beach with a commercial centre behind it containing plenty of bars and places to eat.

    Elle xx

PS: Glad you had a good time woohoo! Hope you manage to get back again next month! The weather should be even better then - it's been too overcast for my taste recently. xx

Head to the beach for sure Blondie - the boys can make hundreds of sandcastles... and paddle in the sea. You can buy buckets and spades fairly cheap here. Please do cake your kids in factor five million though - that sun is extremely strong! I caught it today after only 10 minutes of sitting in the garden.

There are usually kiddie discos in the hotels during the early evenings too - as much "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" as you can handle ha ha ha.

All bars and restaurants will welcome your youngsters too - but there is one restaurant on the seafront that has a kiddie play area at the back too. I am so sorry that I do not remember the name of it... but maybe it will trigger a memory for one of our other posters? It is between The Town Beach and the port (but closer to the Town Beach). It has parrots outside sometimes... and is very close to the restaurant with the massive cow head above the door. So sorry to be vague - it's the weekend and my brain is fried from a heavy working week. If I remember the name of it, I'll pop back in.

    Hi Elle,

yes it was overcast whilst we were there - still managed to get a nice tan though :D. Plenty of burnt kids round the pool (not mine I might add!!). I hope the weather will be better if we manage to get back in August. Can you recommend any other good AI hotels in Playa Blanca at all?. The Flamingo is a bit expensive at the moment - maybe it will come down nearer the time??? Your advice has been really helpful by the way - thanks for taking the time! x

Hi again. If price is an issue... then you're not doing too bad with Flamingo... as other AI hotels may be better, but the price does reflect that.

However, friends of ours stayed at Sun Park - which is really close to town - and only a 10 minute stroll to Playa Dorada. It's very basic - but clean. Our friends stayed there in January - so there wasn't much available for youngsters at the time... but with the beach so close it wasn't a problem.

About a month ago we had the volcanic ash stuff finishing off, so yes there were delays. This is not normal though... no. They're normally pretty good. xx

Hi-great thread thanks ! Just a quick question if anyone can help-it would be much appreciated. Going to Playa Blanca end of July for 11 nights with hubby and kids (14 and 10)-staying at Dream Gran Castillo. We were thinking of maybe doing a trip to Fuerteventura and also to see the Volcanoes. Any suggestions on the best/cheapest/easiest ways to do this. We will not have a holiday rep as we have booked independently. Also, how hot does it get?? Thanks in advance guys!!
