  • :)Hi Elle
You really seem like the resident expert and I really need some advice!

Hopefully coming to Playa Blanca in August, should be nice weather :rotfl:

Had few problems with villa, flights booked so madly searching for another one. Got some details of one on Calle de las Palmeras, looks lovely says about 10-15 mins to supermarket (roper i think) 6 mins to restaurants, about 10 minutes to beach. Also another one just by Calle del Cercardo, but that seems to be further from anything. Have you got any opinions/info that might be useful. We don't really want to hire a car just have relaxing holiday but be able to eat out occasionally without having to walk miles!

    Hope to hear back soon

    Hola!

Calle del Cercado is on the road right opposite the entrance to the Marina. If the villa is the one I think it is, then you're in a terrific location for the Marina (3 - 4 minute stroll), and only then another 15 minute stroll to the centre of town. I walk past that place when I stroll into town as it's not far from me. I'd love to have the details of that villa - could you possibly send it to me in a private message? It seems to be booked up fairly often, which is a good sign. It is however, just on the edge of the waste ground... but as long as you don't mind looking out the back to some sparseness... then you'll be fine. The walls are fairly high too I think - so nice and private. Should have corking views of the mountains AND the sea from there too. If you look towards the mountains from there and wave - I'll see you. I'll be the one out walking two black labradors, and looking dishevelled.

Calle de Las Palmeras is the one that is way out of town if comparing the two. Yes it's close to Ropers (the BEST place if self catering) - but as for being close to restaurants... well erm... yeah... but only if you're happy with a limited selection and want to walk half an hour to the marina, and then on into town. The beach there isn't the best... BUT... it does bring you a hell of a lot closer to the stunning Papagayo beaches! Taxis are fairly inexpensive though - and it's in Los Coloradas which is a really lovely quiet part of town.

If it were me - I'd go for Calle del Cercado purely on location - unless the Palmeras villa is a lot nice in terms of decor and facilities.

Do drop an email to Ange or Marie at https://www.lanzarotelates.com though - as they have villas all over town, and may well be able to offer you some alternatives too.

If you do book the Cercado villa - I'll be round to pick up my gift from you of a bottle of cheap vino for the help :j Only kidding lol - whichever villa you choose, you should have a fab time! Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Elle

Trying to decide whether to book at Las Brisas in May - can you advise me on a couple of things please?

I have been quoted £85 return taxi to the airport by Travel Republic. Is this a good or average price?

Is it easy to get to other parts of the island for an evening out on public transport ie Costa Teguise, or do buses stop running early evening?

Is it suitable for all age groups? I am 38, going with my partner, and my parents who are in their 70's. Also is it reasonable prices for eating and drinking out (dont like spending evenings cooking - I am going on holiday!!).

    Thanks for any advice xx
  • Thanks for that Elle.

I have already been in touch with Lanzarotelates, they only had villa on Iris development, shared pool which we didn't really want.

Gonna have to talk to my friends and see what they think, but does sound like Cercado one more central. Are we still within walking distance of supermarkets there, we prob won't be able afford eat out each night.

On that note are restaurants reasonably priced?

Hello claireski. That price is certainly cheaper than if you were getting a taxi each way - so you're already onto a winner. I've had a look at http://www.123transfers.net/transfers/playa-blanca/ and he's quoting €80 return for a transfer. He's the same guy behind https://www.t4you.eu so I know he is reliable. Good to have a price comparison anyway.

Regarding the public transport for an evening out in another resort - it's a no-go I'm afraid. The links between Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise run right into the night... but Playa Blanca is out on its own unfortunately, and you'd have to be home by around 10pm to make it possible. Sorry! During the day is really easy though. Costa Teguise is probably around an hour by bus (with a change at Puerto del Carmen on the way, with a short wait between buses).

Absolutely yes... it is very suitable for all age groups - all the resorts are. That's one of the things we love about this Island. There's a real mix of age groups... with clubby stuff for the youngsters if they want it... and quieter stuff should you want it too - it covers all the bases. You're the same age as me (my god - we're 40 in a minute!) and you'll love how much everyone is catered for.

Hey there maisiedaisy - shame LL couldn't sort you out. Iris is very nice... and close to the Marina (we have friends with a villa there) and really close to a Hiperdino supermarket - but yeah, a shared pool.

Yes Cercado is within walking distance of the same Hiperdino - so no problems with shopping at all. It's also not too far from Ropers like the other one too. I can't stress enough how great Ropers has been for the town. It only opened here at the end of last year... and both hubby and I love it!

Restaurants are fairly reasonably priced - dependant upon where you choose of course. A starter is around €6 on average... with a main course around €10 on average.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks Elle, just booked the flight!!!

Not happy about you reminding me that I am pushing 40 though :(

Is there anywhere local that does bike hire (pedal not motor)?

Ha ha ha. If I have to be reminded... then so do you! :rotfl:

No problem with the bike hire. Speak to the lovely Graham at https://www.hubsandtubs.com - he is based in CC Papagayo, which is the Burger King complex behind Playa Dorada. If you contact him through the site and ask for his help, he will deliver the bikes to where you are staying. He does for us when we have visitors over... and also for anyone else.

There is also Electrobikes (don't worry... they do pedal bikes too) and Roy runs that. He is based in Punta Limones, which is the complex just next to the ferryport. He's a helpful chap, and I believe that he delivers too!

    Happy pedalling!

Anyone got any recent comments on the Sandos Papagayo Arena hotel?

  • Hi Elle

Thanks for the link about the bike hire, will definately go for that.

Are there any pretty villages within a reasonable distance to cycle to (about 10 miles max away)? Will need to get my hands on a map I think.

Is it reasonable to eat and drink out? Last time I went to Costa Teguise there were the cheap Chinese restaurants and some bars with one euro a drink, but I dont know about Playa Blanca. Any recommendations?

    Thanks
