Hi Elle,
Currently on day 3 of our month long stay in Playa Blanca (villa is nr the hipodino at the Los coloradas end) and lovin' the place already :j have spent the 1st couple of days [STRIKE]lounging by our pool[/STRIKE] getting acclimatised but now want to get out and explore a bit,and was wondering about public transport.
Quite fancy going to puerto del carmen on tuesday and was wondering if we can get a bus from PB ? are they quite frequent ?
Many Thanks (this thread is proving most useful)

PS Was left very red faced in Ropers, deciding to have a BBQ last night I picked up (what I thought)were some very reasonably priced langoustines, cue check out lady making lots of very strange hand gestures and head shaking only to eventually realise that we had actually picked up fishing bate, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm nice0 -
Hello hello! Glad you're having a good time!
Yes - to get to Puerto del Carmen is possible by bus.
Get the bumber 30 from by the Los Coloradas shopping centre (they go every half an hour), and get off at the Estacion de Guaguas (€1.15 each adult each way).
Then get the number 6 or 8 ro PdC (€2.40 per adult each way). Bus timetables on https://www.arrecifebus.com.
Don't leave it too late to come back though... as the buses stop in the evening. If it were a week on Tuesday rather than tomorrow, I'd meet up with you and come along... as I'm heading that way then... but I can't do it this week, sorry!
The driver will call out "Centro Puerto del Carmen" when it is time to get off... and you will be able to see the Biosfera shopping centre ahead of the bus and slightly downhill. To get the bus back, wait by the taxi rank outside the Biosfera, rather than at the bus stop where you disembarked earlier. It's not signposted... but that's where you get the bus anyway (I do it fairly frequently).
Ewww - bait! Lucky she caught you before you cooked them up!
Wednesday is the market at the Rubicon Marina. Head along about 11 or 12 and have a good mooch about.... then pop along to Lani's Grill and grab a plate of fresh hot paella for €7 per head - yummy!

Cheers Elle,
Help is very much appreciated.0 -
Hi there. I know this is a Playa Blanca thread, but just posting on the offchance you know anything about Costa Teguise? A long shot I know!
Am particularly interested in ways of getting from my hotel (H10 Lanzarotes Gardens) to the volcano national park without having to fork out for a vastly inflated tour operators day out, as I know that would be a fortune! I know its only something like 8 euros to get in, but just wondered if you know of any bus services from Costa Teguise that could get us there.
No problem if you don't, just thought I would have a quick ask in case!0 -
Hi there Ladyshopper. No problem to help! I keep meaning to do a similar guide for Costa Teguise... and Puerto del Carmen too - it's just that time has run away from me.
I'm afraid there is no bus service to get you to Timanfaya. To be honest, the best way is to hire a car for the day hon... it would still be cheaper than getting an organised tour.
Sorry it's not great news for you! xxxxxxI'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!0 -
That does help, at least I know now, and I do appreciate you replying.
How easy would it be to drive from Costa Teguise to Timafaya. Is it well signposted? Do you have any idea how much it would cost to hire a car for the day?
Sorry for all the questions!0 -
Oh it is so so easy - don't worry about that at all! Come out of Costa and follow the signs for Arrecife until you see some for Yaiza - once you get to Yaiza then you'll see signs for Timanfaya. It should take about half an hour by car.
I'm not au fait with car hire prices unfortunately... but you should get one for no more than €30 for the day. Time in a visit to Timanfaya in the morning, then follow it up with a drive to El Golfo for lunch, and then a pootle around Playa Blanca too - then it makes the car worth having hon.

Great thread Elle. Made me check out PB for our winter hols. Have a short list of hotels. My question is, would November be too cold (or too windy!!)for sunbathing? We have looked at the Pappagayo beach areas and would love to be able to sample them.0
-
Nope - November will be just fine! We locals start feeling a little chilly then - but the temps will be in the low to mid twenties.... so you'll notice a big difference when you come over. Not sure I'd brave the pools unless they're heated - but that's personal taste.
Was at Papagayo beaches yesterday and have some lovely red patches where I hadn't put any suncream! Pfft!I'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!0 -
Hi Elle,
Thanks for all the great information. There was a bit of a scare story on TV last night. It was about Tenerife not Lanzarote though. It was about how doctors were charging a fortune for treating minor ailments.
It made me think I'd like to get your advice though. I don't know anything about the health system over there. We have EHIC cards so should be able to get treatment on the local NHS type thing and also have insurance. Question is, if we do have any problems, where would you recommend going?
Many Thanks
