Marru, I just got an email from T*pcashback to say that AIG is offering £75 cashback on car insurance. It might not be the cheapest when you add it all up, but worth a look, I guess?

Hope it works out. I sympathise - I've twice had my car ploughed into by an idiot (not the same idiot) while legally parked. Both idiots were uninsured and after the second one the car had to be written off. That bumps my premiums up...and I was nowhere near the car on either occasion...

Marru - this might not be the same competition, but if it is might make you feel a bit better about losing out - the daily prize is a £3750 timeshare package

    http://www.myoffers.co.uk/pd.asp?pd=5004&pn=1&AreaID=68&l=1

the travel cost plus £337 per week of ownership still has to be paid!

I was in an identical situation re: no claims when I split with my ex. I had no years of my 'own'. It was pre-MSE and I only had cash or a debit card and had to use a broker face to face. It cost me £700 for the first year with Zurich!!

Have you tried Direct Line? They advertise second named drivers as being accepted with some no claims years.

Hi, thanks for this. It is the same one. In T&Cs it says that over 30 year old UK home owners only. I am ok with it. It is just quite funny that the first time I win a competition I don't qualify. As it happens I would have had visit there once before being able to sell it and that is just not practical at the moment. So not to worry. Perhaps this is just the beginning of future and better wins.;)

My only problem now is to get my name to the log book and I need to have that insurance so that I can set it up in a moments of notice as my ex might get a bit tricky with this and cancel my insurance when he finds out what I am up to. Thanks for those cash back tips. I shall definitely look into them all. Sadly I also use my car for business milage, it is an import an it is left hand drive so not all insurers cover that kind of "problem child" but I love it anyway :D . Need to get DD to bed except she just brought me a bag of apples and said that "I am hungry apple!" Need to go and make sure that [STRIKE]dogs[/STRIKE] dog won't help herself to that apple.

MrDT thanks for the info on seed prices, however I think my nearest B&Q is well over 100 miles round trip, so buying online is my easiest option. Ideal for anyone close enough to B&Q that doesn't involve travel expenses, though, so thumbs up on that.

Marru I hope you are feeling a little happier now and are able to resolve your car problem. I guess most things in joint-names cause problems when it comes to sorting everything out but you will get there. Thanks for the suggestion about a "home based enterprises" thread, that sounds a great title! Well done!

My herb garden has expanded again, thanks to a quick trip to spring meadows this afternoon. I got heaps and heaps of bargains, including 2 pots of 'aromatic salad herbs' (mainly cress) at 14p each and a pot of parsley reduced to 75p. Now that the herbs are sorted out and the veggies have been started, I am going to concentrate on the fruit. We're fortunate in having an apple tree in the garden, so I'll get plenty to stew and freeze if we are still here but I would love some raspberry canes and some rhubarb. These would need to be potted as I am sick fed-up planting out both in gardens and then having to move house before reaping any benefits. My window sill herb garden is a direct result of having planted out 5 different gardens over the past 7 years! I don't want to be caught out again.

Now, about this interest beater. I am going to be able to cheat a little bit and here's how: by using the credit card shuffle I have been able to stooze this year's allowance and, like I said earlier, I have already transferred that to an account paying interest monthly. This means I will be able to see how much my ISA savings are generating and use that as my guide figure for my Interest beater. :D

In answer to Taka's question, YES, the new thread will be discussing how those of us involved are attempting to beat the interest payments we would have made on whatever it costs us to live. Theoretically, this mini-challenge should run level with the tax year, so I should get it started as soon as possible. My challenge figure is 4k here, so I need to earn at least the equivalent of whatever interest that would have accrued and we allowed a generous estimate of 6.5% over a year. That's how I arrived at £260, which should be the amount of clear profit from whatever enterprising activity I choose to participate in over the coming months. Hope that's easy to understand :)

Marru - this thread might make you feel even better about your 'loss'. I don't think it was much of a prize to start with (or to sell even!), so you are definitely going to win something much more worth while next time ;)

Does your ex have the log book? If so, and if it is in his name, he will need to sign it over to you unfortunately. If it is in your name already, I would give the DVLA a ring to see if you can get it replaced as a lost log book.

OOOOH! Thanks for that. I guess that is why they want homeowners only and not us "poor tenants" and why it was so easy to "win" it.

I am afraid he does have the log book. Need to write a letter and threaten with solicitors, which will turn nasty. Oh well.

good grief i have just been crunching my numbers yet again. I worked out properly what my average spends have beenso far, so that i can budget properly. turns out bills come to £63.72 and food comes to £36.53 a month...that is £100.25 (will try to send 2.5 less texts a month to make it a nice figure :) )

WHICH if i want to stick to my
secret super low budget means i have only £20.59 a month to spend on everything else...hmmmmmmm

    .........i am at £17.90 already

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i dont want to be stuck in the house alllllllll the time................

:( but i have my heart set on completing my university challenge!!!!

i might have to, ahem, 're-jig' my budget so it is a wee bit easier :o

does anyone know if student travel expenses are a loan or free money? i know that you have to pay the first £155 yourself, but i might knock the remainder off my challenge if it is free money.....
