Mark when I saw the start of your post "We never had our GP's teeth done" I thought.....what the
Then I realised it meant Guinea Pig:rotfl: :rotfl:
On the subject of GPs' toe-nails, I should have said that it's harder than you'd think, because GP toe-nails have blood vessels running through quite a lot of their length, unlike human ones. So if you cut them too short, they bleed and it's uncomfortable for the GPs. If they have pale nails (like humans) it's relatively easy to see the blood vessels so you can cut them not too short; if they have dark nails it's awfully difficult.
I'm afraid that I would suggest trial and error. And don't try to cut off too much.0 -
Nyk your post about the dog and cat is priceless.
If your LL is going to sell up...what about your potatoes?
We kind of ate all of his when we moved in here last year. :rotfl: There were potatoes, onions, courgettes, carrots, sprouts, maize, parsnips and beans. Only the onions, potatoes and courgettes came to anything worthwhile but I also got to use the apples from the tree. My LL isn't a typical BTL landlord as this is their only house and they are currently renting. It's a tricky situation. Anyway, I won't lose a fortune if we need to be out before the potatoes are ready because they are just sprouted potatoes left over from the sack of Maris Pipers I bought for eating. I don't even know if they will grow but they did have sprouty bits on them. Everything else is in tubs, just in case.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hmm, this is interesting, we were only told this needed doing by our (not so cheap) vet so I'm wondering if he's out to make a quick buck? They eat GP food, have carrots, apples or greens every day, have plenty of wooden cage to gnaw on and definitely haven't stopped eating or lost weight so presumably they're ok?
We had a dwarf rabbit once whose teeth grew very rapidly (unlike the other one) and we had to get them cut quite often so maybe I'm a bit overcautious? As for the nails, I can't bring myself to do it (what a woos I am these days!) but now I'm a fully-fledged frugalite, I might persuade OH to do it, especially as some of them are black and you can't see where to cut!
Marru, ickle mice sound adorable, OH would probably throttle me though and then who'd feed them?
Great cat and dog story Nyk! :T I want to see the lambs too! And thanks for the reminder about the writing website Marru, off to check that out now!
I've retrieved 5 more things to sell on Ebay but can't face doing it so will have to be done next week. I'm determined to declutter this year (and hopefully make some money too!).

Marky, just out of curiosity and assuming you weren't part of this challenge how much would you be prepared to pay for getting the claws cut if someone was to turn up your doorstep to offer this service?

Nyk I like your money pot animals, off to read that thread in the hope of making one myself!
Janey, any tips on giving my BF a case of CIF?Despite having more debts than me (now that I've paid off that card
), he is reluctant to take action. So far I've only managed to help him switch to a 0% interest card. We're hoping to move out when we are both debt free and have savings, so I'd like to encourage him

Yuk, toenails and clippings. I hate feet. Animal or human. And clippings pinging off has to be one of the worst things. I'm glad to find that you're all still here and still frugalling hard. I've tried to catch up on all the posts but I've had to miss some - no time now that I'm a granny again. I got a call from DDIL asking if it would be ok to come and have lunch today. Four of us and new DGD. Went straight to cupboard and freezer and produced (within an hour):
Hot rolls (the ones that are part-baked)
Cooked Ham ( a Smartprice Mr A one...delicious) cooked in 50 minutes
HM red onion chutney (made last week)
Grated cheese (of course I grated it myself!)
HM potato salad - boiled salad potatoes then added spring onions (from freezer - they freeze well), sweetcorn and chilli flakes.
Followed by.
HM pancakes with frozen (defrosted!) summer fruits and tinned cream.
Before this site I would probably have rushed to the supermarket and spent a small fortune so thanks to you all for keeping me on track." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Bails:
with rabbits it is a case of what genes they inherit. if they get a faulty gene their teeth are not quite in line and this causes the overgrowth of teeth. Not all rabbits get this but if one does it nearly always will need its teeth trimming for the rest of its life. Guinea pigs may be the same but I never had a problem with them.
