Evening everyome.I read everyday but don't post that regularly.I have just had a fab evening with friends for the price of a very cheap bottle of wine ( well £8 but it was part of 3 for £10 at asda :) ).I'm feeling very happy and as someone who used to spend a fortune on nights out I'm feeling very proud of myself.

Marru, and anyone else who wants to make money from writing: there's a site called duotrope.com which will send you a regular email listing all the English-language magazines, websites etc wanting short pieces, what they want, whether they are in the UK or the USA, whether they pay or not, etc. It's a brilliant resource. There's nothing to pay as the site supports itself from voluntary donations (I am ashamed to say I haven't donated yet - must get round to it soon) :o

Good morning fellow inhabitants of Frugal Land :D

Mollymop5 hope you aren't into the Alka Seltzer after the cheap bottle of wine.;)
Have to say am a little disappointed not to see great drifts of snow glinting in the brilliant sunlight we have here this morning. Looking at the TV weather, it has obviously hit a bit further west than was predicted

But DH and I will take the opportunity to get on with re-assembling the house which is still looking like a bomb has dropped after the fire. It would be lovely to go outside and bask in the sun but he goes into hospital in a month and will be out of action for a while so we will have to get on with boring jobs.

I was exhausted last night after the visit to the big city :rotfl: and fell asleep on the settee.

Today, I am going to assess the garden situation as I must get my seeds in. As my greenhouse is still a mirage on the horizon, I am making use of a book I got ages ago from Ebay about how long it takes seeds to propagate in different temperatures and depending when you sow them.
I used to sow seeds really early but they got so leggy because of lack of light.I'm hoping the seeds will be OK being sown later as we live so far north :D
Mine will have to be on the windowsill in the kitchen which, at best, never gets above 17C unless the sun is shining directly through the window and then I have to try and stop them being frazzled
Its an old house so tends to be dark inside as so I usually have to put foil behind the plants to get some extra light onto them.

Of course, it could be cheaper to just go to teh Co-op...but where's the fun in that :rotfl:

I will be back to cooking all Mum's meals again as she took it upon herself to cancel Meals on Wheels
She has also started ordering really daft things off the Shopping Channels...what does a 79 yr old lady want with a pair of shortie pyjamas

    Morning everyone,
Woke to a small amount of snow here this morning but we now have a bright winter sun melting it very quickly. I want to get a bit done on veggie patch today so hope sun hits that part of garden soon:D
Cooking for my oldies again this afternoon, we are having a huge baked ham with all the trimmings, followed by apple pie and custard. Just what they need when it is so cold.
After our luck on the national yesterday i also managed to scoop the lottery bonus ball at work and win another £20 so a good moneymaking day all round:D
Enjoy the day everyone, why is it that free time passes so much more quickly than working time:confused:

Janey....let us know how you get on with the planting. I've got some seeds but haven't a clue where to start. I look forward to your input.:D

I cook for my BF dad but only on Sundays. We prepare lunch and tea for him, and BF takes over whatever we are having during the week, sheppards pie and lasagne etc. He has carers going in twice daily to cook for him, but I suspect he likes my BF popping in every day!;) Oldies can be sooooo cunning at times!

Morning everyone. Janey no hangover here yippee.I think the hour I spent on here last night and the glass of water I had before bed helped :) Sunshine here this morning though it is very cold.I'm managing to keep in budget, got asda coming with a delivery at lunchtime.Free delivery code too so thats great.I'm well on my way to having enough money for my dd bed( that was my personal challenge remember?) I've been buying fabric from ebay so I can make lots of cushions, bags ect for her room. They will work out alot cheaper than shops and unique!
I have been saving empty bottles for my greenhouse.Don't know If I will ever have enough for a greenhouse but I don't think I'm too far off a cold frame lol.I will be here for advice when it comes to growing my tomatoes, peppers ands courgettes :)
Hope you all have a lovely day. It's the start of my kids 2 weeks school holidays so I guess I'm going to be fighting for the pc from now on!

How stupid. It almost makes you want to report them to their local police. Muppet!

Really? Actually I hadn't thought of it as fraud, thought it was just good luck :D - can't believe it's the worst crime ever committed though ;)

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig, I had to do a similar thing with one of my Russian hamsters, v upsetting. Talking of guinea pigs, does anyone know how often their teeth and nails need clipping? And why is it necessary ie it's not like there are guinea pig dentists in their natural habitat? Thanks.

Andromache, glad you had such a lovely anniversary! As for the job, my HoD is having a meeting after Easter hols about the funding, so hopefully only about 3 weeks; waiting is killing me though! :D
Really pleased to hear of everyone's success on the GN, every little helps eh?:T
Well done Mollymop on the frugal fun! Great tip Redglass, I'm a wannabe writer too, so thanks for that.
Nyk, your idea of a discussion group sounds like a good one, may be a new thread is needed?

I'm off out for lunch today, meeting an old friend and someone new who has my illness -don't really want to go (I've turned into a right recluse!) but I'm sure it'll be fine when I'm there. Really don't want to shell out on lunch though

    groooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn

didnt get in til 4 last night from my friends birthday night out, just checked my purse to see how much i spent, £14.95, which isnt too bad for a satuday night, plus got her present cheap earlier in the year because it meant i got free boots vouchers

i was very frugal and walked home (well, helpede by the fact there were no taxis ;)) including a big detour to practically carry my very tipsy friend to her house. must have been a bit tipsy myself cos i stopped to pick up '10p' which was in fact a bottle top

i am off to prise a coin out of a terramundi pot that my friend gave me years ago (she put it in to 'start me off' but i cant bing myself to use/break the pot!)

i will let you know if i get it out & how much it is (1p? £2? oooh the anticipation!)

ps re stamps, i heard somewhere that you can use prepaid envelopes that you get in junk mail - i have never tried this though, would that work?? would that be fraud, as its not being used to post twice?

We're having some very strange weather today, it keeps swapping between bright sunshine and heavy snowfall. Nothing has settled yet though. Just taken the dog out and she has been bouncing around trying to eat it all before it hits the ground :rotfl:

Re: the stamp debate. My parents think that the post office will buy back stamps if they are still in the books they came in, but I'm not sure about that. Any clues?

Put some change in my pig today. I'm not going to count it, I'd rather have a surprise when I empty it :o I've been neglecting my points, so I'm off to have a clicking spree now. I'm also going to try to work out a budget to get me through the term ahead. Not quite sure what to do, so I anticipate a steep learning curve :D
