    Have a good day janey:D
You are making a big difference to the lives of your old ladies:T . Homecarers are really undervalued for the work that they do, and underpaid:mad: .I love working with my oldies, and as you say thay can teach us a thing or two:D .

Prudent - Enjoy the day out with DD:D My DD is going on 17 and I come a poor second to her ponies:o . We don't have any land but DD has two ponies in stables, one is on a free loan he is a strawberry roan and quite mad,he has no brakes:eek: and no one else can ride him. The other she owns herself (and pays for herself;) ) and he is a dartmoor and lovely. The roan belongs to the stable owner and DD gets a good deal on her own pony's stabling for looking after him;) . I had a welsh section D but sold him in january when I had a hysterectomy and couldn't manage him. No plans for another yet though.

    Have a good day everyone.

You lot are just fabulous. Just knowing you guys are there gives me so much strength.

We're not doing to much today as we all worked over the weekend. MIL is at work today (oops, did I say hooray) so we're having a duvet day, just the three of us. I nearly suggested a trip to the donkey sanctuary (it's free) but it would cost a lot in fuel so I think we'll wait for the warmer weather. So it'll be an indoor picnic. DS loves them.

    I'll be back later.

Enjoy your MIL free day whitewing:j

bails I am a Homecarer (after being a Staff Nurse from the year dot :D )
I have a group of elderly people who I visit in their own homes and, depending on their needs, I help them with all aspects of personal care, light coal fires, cook meals, give medicines, put washing on and do some general housework. Mainly I chat to them :D and boy, can I chat :rotfl:
I have learnt so much about their lives, families and the history of the area where I work.
I usually sart about 7.20 ish but can be earlier depending on how many people I get added to my list :D
Trouble with me is, I can't say no  Sometimes I can be out from 7.15am until 9pm (with a couple of short spells at home) but actually only do 6hrs face to face care as you may only be allowed 15 or 30mins to do the work (this is assessed by a Social Worker). TBH, some of the assessments are years out of date and a client's needs take a lot longer.
I can drive 12 miles just bombing round the small town where I work.
A lot of the old folk only see the Carers and don't get visits from family or friends. Sometimes all their relatives are dead...some of my ladies are in their 90s.
They could teach us all a lot about frugal living. Some of them have very little food in the house and a meal will be a slice of bread, cup of tea and a little bit of cheese.
And its off to work I go.....

This is what i want to do when my DS goes to school in september but dont think i can because i dont drive. I have always wanted to work with the elderly but also my build stops me as i dont think i am strong enough to lift anyone. That was so intresting to read :) I love reading about peoples days/work/ :)

Good morning all, I have put the wm on and dryer (i have no outside space for a line, even though i really want one). I have cleaned up and bathed the children. We are off to my friends house (new friend) at 11.30 and i havent been to her house before so bit excited lol. Then back home unless my ex rings and says he wants to do something...very unlikely. LOL. Bin day tomorrow so need to get bins out, this i struggle with because i cant pull it to the alley grrrrrr

mumzy depending on where you live, you could probably do the job on foot or a bike. Quite a few of the Carers in my little town do. I tend to get sent to people who live on the top of a hill because I drive..lol
This morning I was talking to a lady who used to live in Norway and it was fascinating. She was showing me some of the intricately carved (??) silver she got out there. She also said she used to be a silversmith herself. How wonderful is that?
I helped one old lady make drop scones this morning...but ssshhh, not supposed to do that. But she so wanted to have a go but she's doddery and confused and another one of my ladies didn't need me because she has visitors so I thought "why not?" The look on her face was great and she says her son is visiting and will love them.

I have had 3 NSD in a row now :j but will be breaking that record on a daily basis when we go on our hols tomorrow :D
I have joined the National Trust via Quidco as its £20 cashback and 3 months free. So thats £37.50 for self and DH and we can get into all the National Trust places by flashing the card :T When you think how expensive it is to get into NT properties I think it will be money well spent.
We are breaking the drive down with a night in a Travelodge (£29 saver room) as it's an 8 hr drive.
I am still going to keep a spending diary as far as I can. I have budgeted an amount each day for food and extras so hope I can save on that.
Looking forward to spending the savings in Charity Shops and Car Boots. I've printed off a list of what's on so I'm all prepared :j

Oh Janey and SophiesMum, I so wish you could've looked after my Aunty Kath (whose funeral it was last week) - sadly her carers were less than great (left her in bed all day, didn't take her to the loo, even though there were two of them to lift her and she was about 6 stone, never chatted to her just watched TV :(). My mum went out every day and did everything she could but sadly she died just 24 hours before my parents got back from India. There's an inquest as it appears she was poisoned  Such a sad, sad end to such a lovely woman's life (and that's only half of it).
Mumzy, I've got my WM on too, need to have a big clear up as my kitchen looks like a bomb's hit it and the Asda shop's just arrvied and needs unpacking. The mint and coriander plants were out of stock so I sent the replacements back, need to check the rest over. The invoice says I've been charged for delivery (which someone on GC told me was normal but they wouldn't take the money, anyone know about that?).
Marru, if you read this you're more than welcome to come and plonk yourselves down in the chaos! :D
Ooh SophiesMum, I used to love strawberry roans as a kid and always rode a Dartmoor (the one called Gay :rotfl:). I wonder if I'll ever had a horse of my own?
Enjoy your duvet day and indoor picnic Whitewing, sounds great! Hope the weather stays good enough to see the foal Nyk, great frugal picnic.
Prudent, we're looking for a transit to convert - OH is a DIY genius thankfully so I'm hoping we'll be able to do a great job (as soon as we've got the money). SophiesMum, I'll definitely be doing a frugal road trip round anyone who invites me once we've got it up and running :D
Mumzy, sounds like a great career choice, as Janey says there's no need to let not being able to drive put you off. Thanks for talking about your job Janey, love hearing about the oldies so keep the stories coming. Hope you have a really lovely holiday!
Have a great day everyone, I really ought to get off and tidy up  xx

    HI Bails,

I have already whizzed passed your house with car full of pieces of fabric and books!!! I love freecycle. Now I am hoping that DD will have a short nap after lunch giving me time for a bath. I know there is dozen things I should be doing but....oh, couldn't come up with excuse :o so better get that lunch done.

My car is poorly and I need to take it to garage tomorrow to be assessed. I am just hoping it won't be a big bill. They can only fix it on Friday so I will be driving a very noisy car for a whole week and being scared that the exhaust pipe will fall off anytime. I hope it is just another clamp that needs replacing that means that it can be fixed in the morning. Fingers crossed.

See - I am trying not to update my totals - I promised in Sophiesmum's thread today to get it done so I WILL COME BACK later with my totals. So if you don't hear from me I am hiding under the table trying to avoid the unavoidable.

    Marru

That's so sad about your Aunty Kath, Bails. :grouphug: Unfortunately it can be true that some of the least caring people end up in caring jobs - I can think of other examples - mostly because the pay is mean. Thank god there are other care workers, like the ones on this thread, who really do care.

On a more cheerful note, looks like it wasn't such a bright idea to dig the garden and cut up so much wood yesterday - I slept like a log, but woke up so stiff I can hardly move. I should learn to pace myself, but with so many tasks to juggle there's always something urgent that gets in the way, and then I end up having a blitz. Oh well, have a great holiday, everyone... !

Just happened across this thread. I can't believe that it really is possible to live on just £4,000 a year? This wouldn't even pay our mortgage for 6 months.
I am very intrigued though so plan on reading up on this and checking how everyone is doing.

Congrats to all who are managing to do so and good luck to those who need it! :)
    Dream of being mortgage free....
