Regardless of their blatantly false claim of "Any suggestion that consumers have been signed up for Webloyalty’s service without their knowledge or consent would be false.” They know only too well they have NO CHOICE but to refund you, better that than facing yet another "theft" charge.

SD&R Will firstly try to make an offer of just "3 repayments", but stand firm, they know they have to pay the lot back, regardless of how many "ifs" or "buts" they put in front of it.

  • I have only just noticed (maybe I should check my statements more) that shoppersdiscounts have been taking £10 from me for months now. I have never joined up and to my knowledge never brought anything from some of the sites people have stated. I only but from Play.com and Mymemory so where they got my details from I do not know. I have spoken to my bank and I have reported it to the police through my bank. I have sent shoppersdiscount an email stating that what they are doing is theft and am waiting for reply. I will also phone them again 2morrow as they are shut today being a bank holiday. This is so bad why on earth isn't trading standards doing something about this company what they are doing is surely against the law??

My experience is as per Amazonial's above, on checking Bank statements today, I found that I had 3 x 'unexplained' £10 monthly deductions, paid to S D & R that appear to have occurred following my being caught by a '£15 Discount' voucher offered following a ticket pruchase transaction on the 'Trainline' website.
I immediately dug through my spam folder and cancelled my SD&R 'Account' via Email.
In their automated return Email, am assured that 'no further deductions will be made'.
Pity, SD&R are closed today, I may have calmed down when I phone them tomorrow!
Putting the matter through the bank dispute process tomorrow.
Has anyone had any results via Trading Standards/Consumer Direct or as a result of Police action?

Police defer to trading standard in this area and will not get involved. Trading Standards say they will only investigate if you have lost money that you cannot get back.

As S D & R always refund the money in response to a complaint trading standards are never prepared to investigate at a local level.

SAS were previously obliged to give assurances under the Enterprise Act about not breaking certain parts of trading standards law but they just gave those assurances and then carried on using the same bad practices as before regardless. Unfortunately Trading Standards seem very ineffective unless a government minister suddenly takes an interest in dealing with a particular scam operator.

Bank dispute people on to it now.
The problem being that as this was a 'Debit card' transaction, that SD&R had given themselves the 'right' to draw monies from my account ad infinitum, since September 2010.
Also unlike a Direct Debit, there is no ability for the duped customer to cancel the order online via internet banking without going through the card dispute process.
One wonders how many 000s of unwitting members SD&R have recruited and continue to milk of their monthly fee.
I have also Emailed SD&R Customer Services, in the terms suggested above by 'Nongeographicman' requiring the immediate return of my monies, no reply yet, awaiting developements, will post when known.
    Thanks to all
    DB
  • Copy of the Email that I sent to SD&R Customer Service :-

    Dear Sirs,

Following making a rail ticket purchase in September 2010 via Trainline, and accepting what appeared to be a Trainline offer of a £15 Discount voucher against future rail travel, I wish to complain that subsequent to that transaction 3 x £10 deductions have been made by yourselves from my bank account without my express authority, as I was apparently affiliated to your scheme via an Internet 'click though' and without my knowledge or permission.
I therefore request that all monies deducted by yourselves are returned or reimbursed forthwith and that you give me an undertaking that no further deductions will be made from my bank account.

Account Termination Number X- xxxxxxxxxxxx refers.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

    Yours faithfully,
    DB
And the reply I received today:-

    Dear DB,
Thank you for contacting Shopper Discounts & Rewards.
Our records show that you or someone with access to your credit/debit card completed an online transaction with www.thetrainline.com. After your transaction, you were offered the opportunity to join the Shopper Discounts & Rewards programme with a £15 cash back voucher and a 30 day free trial. Immediately next to the offer, the Offer and Billing Details were displayed. By entering your name, address and credit or debit card details and then clicking on the 'yes' button to accept the offer, you authorised us to charge the monthly membership fee of £10 to the credit card or debit card that was provided after your free trial period ended.
Shopper Discounts & Rewards is an online savings and discount programme that enables you to earn cash back rebates of up to 20% at over 800 online retailers. In addition, members can benefit from shopping guarantees and protections.
We try to make the offer as clear as possible by placing the Offer and Billing details directly next to the offer and sending out a pre-bill notification email within the 30 day trial period. However, we apologise if there has been any misunderstanding in the offer. Please be assured that we would never have received your credit or debit card details without appropriate permission from the person who agreed to the membership.
This membership has been cancelled as of the 03/01/2011 and we have issued 3 refunds of £10 for the membership fees charged. Your refund will be credited to your credit card or debit card account within the next 10 working days.
Your cancel confirmation number is: xxxxxxxxx

This email is from Webloyalty International Limited ("Webloyalty"). Webloyalty is a limited company registered in England, company number 05922626 and its registered office is at Po Box 450, Tubs Hill House, London Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13 1BL, United Kingdom.

So, they tell me that they will refund in 10 working days. But as I can see from their Email, It must all have been my fault that I wasa trapped in the first place.

I have yet to hear from my Dedbit card dispute team as to what action they will take over this dubious business practice... hopefully there is some sort of list of companies with whom the bankers will not deal.....but probably not.

    Caveat Emptor

    Best Regards

  • Oh, and I am going to fire one off to 'The Trainline' concerning their part in this, too.
    DB.
  • Thanks to this site i finally found out who shoppers discount are, we sent an email to them on Sunday and they replied back today Wednesday stating that they will refund me fully for the amount they have taken out. It is easy to fall into this trap of not knowing who they are, or how you have got them taking money of you, I dont think they are a scam or a con, if they were they would not offer you a refund.

My wife booked flights back in Nov 2010 with Ryanair and without realising selected (or so we think) an option to subscribe to SHOPPER DISCOUNTS.
Since then I have had £10 taken from my account per month. HSBC were ok about it and have reversed each debit but it will continue until i get SHOPPER DISCOUNT to cancel the agreement.

I find it disgraceful that Ryanair or any other company can get away with this sort of behaviour, it is clearly a scam, They know they are catching you off guard.

Also, after searching Ryanairs website, there is a mention of SHOPPER DISCOUNT and it states that the agreement is subject to a free 30 day trial, we didnt get this, removed £10 instantly.

    wwwryanaircom/en/news/ryanair-and-webloyalty-to-offer-discounts

Transactions like this should only be allowed when they receive bank details from the cardholder themselves, not passed on by another company. Some company, somewhere in the world can take my money whenever they want. Ridiciulous

Tried contacting Ryanair but they dont display any email addresses, illegal by the way under online trading laws, so i have to write to them or fax? No wonder they have the lowest complaints for an airline as they are boasting!

see you next tuesday-s...the lot of them.

Nope, even THEY know the email they sent you is BS. They have fraudulantly duped you.

First thing, contact them again DEMANDING ALL PAYMENTS, don't fall for the "Here's a few bob to shut you up" routine. What they have done is Illegal and they know this only to well.

Remind them if you do not receive a FULL REFUND you will take it up with Trading Standards and have your day in Court with them.

DO NOT ACCEPT 3 PAYMENTS REFUND, tell them you are not interested in a lousy 3 refunds, nothing short of refunding ALL MONIES STOLEN will suffice.

Please read post no. 952 of page 48 for more info on how this SCAM works.
