  • Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this forum. Like the previous lady I had noticed shopperdiscounts on my M & S credit card bill but thought it was for an on-line purchase (as we usually do some each month). I realise that I never twigged that it was £8 exactly every month which really was a bit of a give away!! I had been paying since buying a poster from allposters back in Dec 2007!!! The ladies I dealt with yesterday on the phone at shoppersdiscounts were so very professional and helpful and went out of thier way to cancel my payments, refund the last 3 payments immediatley and sent me a claim form. I filled in the claim form straight away and faxed it to them. Got an email this morning at 8am to say that they are refunding me £8 x 34 as seperate transactions back to my M & S card. Lesson learnt here well and truely.

That is a much larger amount than most people here have been charged by them by the time they manage to put a stop to being scammed.

I do hope you find something nice to spend that £272 on when you finally get it back.:j

I been caught by La Redoute, i have bought dress and agreed to get voucher for next purchase, it wasn't mentioned anything about trial period. Now when i complained to Shopperdiscounts., they told me i agreed for trial period, but that is not true, just i don't have anything to prove that... company agreed to give me back 3months payment, but they was stilling my money almost all year!!! how to make them to get all my money back?

I send them email, saying I'm going to the court, and so they offered £30. I told is it the joke...I requested all my money back, or I promised, I won't finish this matter in easy way, I'm going to do everything as it takes to get all my money back, so they promised £80 back in 10 days time. So I'll see... I should mention I have change my address since few months ago, so it shouldn't match my card details, but they was able to still my money anyway...As soon as i get my money back, I am going to order new card...And I still have need to complain to La Redoute, how they let this to happen...

Is £80 all the money that they owe you? If not say you will need to report this matter to Consumer Direct and get them to have it pursued further by Trading Standards if you do not get all of your money back since you never agreed to pay them any of your money and it is against the law for them to keep any of it.

I don't think there is really any need to do that as once they agree to refund and stop taking the payments they do always honour it. But if it gives you more piece of mind to do so then its up to you.

[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I wrote to the Managing Director of FlyBe about my anger at their website doing everything they could to make me agree to ask for a free £15 cashback for booking with them (including going on about me not having taken up the great offer in my flight confirmation email) but not pointing out that I would be signed up to a recurring monthly payment to the Rewards First brand of Adaptive Affinity and that I also would not paid the promised £15 cashback unless I complained very loudly.

I didn't even get a reply from the directors of FlyBe but I did hear from Mr Philip Snowden, Customer Service Director of Rewards First/Adapative Affinity promising to send me a cheque for £15 and to cancel any programmed future payments they might have been going to take from my credit card. Unfortunately the kind of companies who sign up with these [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] schemes [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] are the kind of companies that only ever have 0844 or 0871 revenue earning telephone numbers for their customer services department.:mad:

I just checked the laredoute.co.uk website and I see I am right:-
    Can’t find what you are looking for? Why not give us a call on 0844 842 2222. Our order lines open 7 days 7am - 10pm. Enquiry lines open Monday - Friday 8am - 9pm, Saturday 9am - 4:30pm
  • Just a quick one, SD&R refunded all of the £30 that they deducted from my account. I shall be more wary in future, thanks to all contributors for your advice and assistance.

For all the bad things that could be said about this company, at least they seem to be complying with their responsibilities under the law.

    Just sayin'. :D

That's only because they can't afford to have their activities ruled on by a court or investigated further by Trading Standards.

They have no choice, they know full well they have broken the law, the last thing they want is a challenge in Court.

I should point out that many companies (who have since ceased having SD&R on their sites) were only made aware by the amount of Customer complaints. It would appear a lot of companies were satisfied with SD&R T&C's that as far as the companies were aware, stipulate that members were requested to fill in their bank details once logged into SD&R.

However this was not the case, the T&C's would change the moment a member was logged onto their site, only then did SD&R "illegally" sabotaged a members existing details from the prior companies.

All the companies who have upto now cancelled SD&R from their sites, did stipulate "We never pass on a customers bank details", completely unaware that this was going on, relying on the T&C's posted on their own site.

These are the T&C posted on the various companies promoting them, who as far as they are aware you have read and understood the following.
Shopper Discounts & Rewards is a special rewards promotion offered after making a transaction at our website. The promotion offers a 30-day free trial in Shopper Discounts & Rewards with all the money saving benefits they have to offer, as well as a £10.00 cash back voucher to be used on your next purchase at our website.

If you have signed up for Shopper Discounts & Rewards you would have entered your home address and specific billing information. Additionally you would have created and entered a password for your membership, and also clicked a button to accept the membership.

If you have any further questions, please contact our partner, Shopper Discounts & Rewards at 0808 234 1539 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
    This is up until you have clicked the SD&R link, and entered out of the various companies onto SD&R site where that part of the T&C suddenly becomes;
By entering my email address as my electronic signature and clicking YES, I have read and agree to the Offer and Billing Details and authorise xxxxx to securely transfer my name, address and credit or debit card information to Shopper Discounts & Rewards for billing and benefit processing.
But by this time, you have already signed up, no matter what you click.

Its a massive scam (raking in Millions), yet it is not only the customers who are being hoodwinked by this Company.

Here are a few examples of companies being unaware of a sabotage on their own sites.
Thank you for your recent email regarding Shopper Discounts and Rewards. Further to your comments and emails we have had from a couple of other customer with similar experiences we have taken the decision to remove the programme with immediate effect from our website. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

There are two ways in which the Shopper Discounts and Rewards can be implemented the first being that when a customer agrees to sign up to the programme there credit card details are sent automatically - we do not and have never used this method.
The second way and the method we use is that if a customer wishes to sign up to the programme then they must enter their credit card details again. We do not pass on any details to Shopper Discounts and Rewards directly without the customer signing up for the programme.

Once again please accept my apologies and should you wish any further clarification on this please do not hesitate to contact me.
PhotoBox wants to make it clear that we do not sell or transfer any of your details to Shoppers Discount and Rewards, that level of integration does not exist on our site.

It’s not automatic, the only way a person’s details can be entered into the Shopper Discount and Rewards scheme, if this person re-enters all their details on the Shoppers Discount and Rewards website and hits the confirmation button that enrolls them in such scheme.

From our perspective we are being completely transparent and honest
    ."
Since our last post on this matter they have made their registration page clearer but as the negative feedback from you has kept coming, we knew you wanted us to take further action.
This means that as of now you’ll no longer see any mention of Shopper Discount & Rewards after placing an order with us. We hope this shows you how much we appreciate hearing your feedback on the blog and make every effort to keep you, our loyal customers, happy.
    Regards
However feel free to complain to any company using SD&R, a boycott of these companies may wake them up enough to drop them. But under the circumstances I would not go so far as to directly blame a company that is unaware of the situation. Not least until customers have made them fully aware of the fact.

Many companies should indeed try a test purchase, just to see for themselves what is going on.

I agree to some extent, but how often do we see companies like this ignoring that risk? I am not defending them, I was just observing that although they con people into clicking a button without telling them that hey will be paying for something they don't need until the day they die, at least they pay the money back if asked (of course those who don't know, or don't ask for the money back, are being screwed). Many other con artists wouldn't bother.
