I was just observing that although they con people into clicking a button without telling them that hey will be paying for something they don't need until the day they die, at least they pay the money back if asked (of course those who don't know, or don't ask for the money back, are being screwed). Many other con artists wouldn't bother.

But that's why they are still at it and have not been raided and shut down by the Police. They are always able to say to the authorities "oh dear it must have been a technical problem or a misunderstanding in just this particular case but we have loads of other happy customers".

Primary legislation is needed with much more severe fines to stop the scams being run by both S D & R and Rewards First.

    Credit Rating Matters

By Andrew Penman on January 26, 2011 11:00 PM in Online scams
Always look a gift horse in the mouth, especially if it's an online offer.
John Richards saw a £10 cashback deal after using the Nochex payment site for an online order.

It tempted him to a FREE - in capital letters - trial of rewards first, as easy as 1-2-3! Wind forward a few months and John has found that six payments of £14.95 have been taken from his card by a third outfit, Credit Rating Matters.

He has asked for his money back, only to be told that he can't have it because he had joined Rewards First, and then "agreed and acknowledged" to take out !membership with Credit Rating Matters.

"I'm nearly 70 years of age, why would I need a credit rating check?" he asks.
Rewards First and Credit Rating Matters are both owned by Adaptive Affinity Ltd, which is run by a certain Andrew Millet.

He has got form for this sort of online "offer", as we have revealed with his High Street Max monthly "discount shopping" club that readers seemingly joined but without their knowledge until they spotted the credit card reductions. Millet, whose previous threats to sue us just look like hot air, did not get back to us when we asked about John's predicament.
Nochex were more helpful though, insisting it doesn't pass bank details to third parties.

It said that John would have been !transferred to the Rewards First website if he had accepted the FREE !cashback offer, and then he should have received a membership confirmation email.

But that email "could have fallen into a spam folder", they added.
The Nochex spokesman said: "I will see if I can get the company to resolve the issue."

  • HELP
We have been done by this company..... we have been paying £10 since April. I have spoken with my bank and cancelled the card. What is the best way to contact them? has anyone got a letter that they have sent them?
I can't believe it. My son was so excited (he is 16 and was thinking that he was saving money ... and now nearly £100 down the drain.

    Help please.

Be sure to demand a full refund (all money taken WILL be repaid - by law!)

    It only takes two steps:

1-A phone call (2-3minute), confirm your email, name and address (and you'd like all your money back, as you didn't know that you signed up to this scam).

2-Posting of the claim form. (which they email to you as a result of the phone call)

    Hi Marleyboy
Many thanks for your advice. I rung my bank last night and they put an stop to my cc. I had an email from S d&r telling me that they have cancelled the account

This membership has been cancelled as of the 30th January 2011 and we have issued 3 refunds of £10 for the membership fee charged. Your refund will be credited to your credit card or debit card account within the next 10 working days. An email will follow with details on claiming any further refunds.

They also email with a form, additional refund request. I rung them because they did not email this to my own email. A women told me that we had used to offer fter your transaction, you were offered the opportunity to join the Shopper Discounts & Rewards programme with a £15 cash back voucher and a 30 day free trial.

I told her that I am the main cc holder and that I was not impressed because I was not aware of this reward programme.

    I will send the form.

How do we found when we began to pay. There is nothing in the website other than looking into c/c statements?

Many thanks... I feel a little less conned. I told the woman under no uncertain terms that I thought it was a swindle.

I'll let you know if I get everything.

    Chach
    xx

This sounds much a like a Ponzi scheme. They continue to pull customers in, they refund those who catch them out, but only as long as they continue to draw more customers in. I wonder, if all customers stopped getting fooled, will they still be able to refund everybody?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

With enough spare change to start a new one. If you think of the amounts of people being scammed (Globally), the moneys involved far exceeds Millions, just the interest alone each day would make this profitable, even if everyone was repaid on the same day. If not, the length of time it takes for each member to get a refund, builds yet more interest on top of the interest earned already, effectively the interest starts earning interest.

  • Just to let you know that we received a full refund of 34 payments of £8 to my cc yesterday - only a week since we faxed over the form. They did say it would take 10 days. I am so relieved and hope everyone else is as successful.
