I too fell for this on ebookers site. All I did was tick a box and enter my email for a further discount with ebookers if i booked again within 30 days. I did not give my credit card details to shopperdiscounts.co.uk, I was unaware that ebookers would pass on my credit card details I used for my booking onto shopperdiscounts.co.uk. shopperdiscounts.co.uk then deducted £10 per month until I realised.

I have since contacted the Office of Fair trading which I advise everyone effected to do...08454 04 05 06 they have told me they will refer shopperdiscounts.co.uk to trading standards if they receive enough complaints.

Lets stop this from happening again!

I'm glad I've joined MSE! I had the £15 back offer after buying Pizza hut online, so I signed up for that site and was just looking at getting the cash back but thought I'd search on here first and glad I have. I went straight on and canceled before they got any of my money!

Rather than complain to shopperdiscounts&rewards.co.uk i thought it would be better to complain to Pizza Hut directly about the service they have signed up to. I also included a link to this thread so they could see how many dissatisfied customers there were. Pizza Hut e-mailed back and said I should take my complaint up with shoppersdiscounts BUT they did also forward my e-mail to them and below is the reply,

    Dear (me),

We were recently contacted by Pizza Hut with regards to your query about Shopper Discounts & Rewards,
Our records show that after your transaction, you were offered the opportunity to join the Shopper Discounts & Rewards programme with a 15 cash back voucher and a 30 day free trial. Immediately next to the offer, the Offer and Billing Details were displayed. By entering your email address twice as an electronic signature, entering the last 4 digits of the credit or debit card you used for your purchase and then clicking on the 'yes' button to accept the offer, you authorised us to charge the monthly membership fee to the credit card or debit card account you used for your transaction with Pizza Hut after your free trial period ended.

We try to make our offer as clear as possible by mentioning the monthly charge information throughout our offer page. All customers are additionally sent a pre-billing notification 14 days before their free trial period ends. This e-mail advises the customer the different ways they cancel their membership if they do not want to remain in the programme at the end of the trial.

This membership has been cancelled as of the 16/01/2010 and as you cancelled during your 30 day free trial period, you were not charged for this service.
We are aware of the negative postings on the Internet and understand that everyone has a right to speak their mind. However, we have thousands of very happy and satisfied Shopper Discounts & Rewards members who actively use our service.
If you require further assistance, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on our free phone number: 0808 234 1539 Monday-Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.
    Sincerely,

    Jillian

I just discovered £10 being taken from my account by this shopperdiscounts&rewards.co.uk and I had no idea what it was. I certainly don't remember signing up for anything and can only think that they got my details when I bought some concert tickets online.

I keyed in the website but couldn't find any contact details. It wasn't until I googled and was led to this thread that I was able to find a contact number. I phoned the number and got an automated reply with an option to cancel my membership which I've now done.

I do think their methods are completely underhand because they sign people up by piggy backing on a genuine transaction which people have authorised but they don't actually ask you seperately for credit card details so no-one expects to be charged for something. They must be making a fortune out of people not noticing what is going on. I have never used their services, wasn't even aware what it was.

I find it intriguing they claim to have thousands of happy and satisfied customers, yet upto now ALL seem shy to mention just how happy they are on these "negative" forums, that seem to have it in for them.

They do follow this very thread very intensely, but "bottled out" when it came to answering any direct questions regarding their ethics, except to say of course "we do offer to refund you if you catch us out".

    Isn't that right MaryO ;)

A few weeks ago I noticed 1 £10 payment to shopperdiscounts etc from my Mastercard.
Last Friday I called Mastercard to query this and they told me this had been charged for the last 3 months and that they would put me through to a colleague who would look into this. I then spoke to a second person that took all the details and then passed me onto a third person who turns out to be..........shopperdiscounts etc.
Luckily, I was kept waiting at each stage and as I happened to be in front of my computer so by the time I spoke to the 3rd person I had discovered this website (and another one) and new this was a scam.
The final conversation informed me that I had "signed up" in October 2008 and had been making this payment ever since. (Yes I know, you should always check your statements unfortunately I ....)
My only recollection of anything like this is that about a year or two ago I did sign up to a 30 day trial of some discount type operation (by post) and then cancelled (by phone) within the period and did check for the first month and no charges had been made to my account.
I was also told that I had been sent regular e mails from shopperdiscounts but they had an old email address that I rarely look at and when I do I have treated their e mails as junk as no mention was made of taking payment from my credit card.
Afer a short discussion the Lady agreed to cancel my "membership" and refund the last 3 payments and said that to get further refunds I would need to fill in a form.

I received an e mail confirming a refund (but not specifying 3 months) and a separate e mail (both sent to my old e mail and not the new one that I gave her on the phone) with the following text

If you would still like to seek an additional refund we request that you complete the claim form available on our website Please print out a copy, complete all details and either fax or post it to us :

Shopper Discounts & Rewards, PO Box 450, Sevenoaks, TN13 9HN.

    Fax: 01732 461560

Apart from being scammed I am very suspicious of the fact that Mastercard seem to have a hotline to SopperDisounts.
Is this because they have so many complaints or have they come to some sort of arrangement or have I just woken up with my cynical head on this morning.

Has anyone else had similar excperiences?

To my horror, I've just found the same amount from shoppers discounts on my bank recent transactions too.... I've just done what JB03 talked through and have also received an email confirming cancellation and refund within the next 10 days.

JB03, it would be great if you'd keep us posted on whether you've received your refund yet...

I'll do the same just in case they're still tryin to con us all....

    :TUPDATE:
As the header to the message suggests, I have just recieved my refund from them. It has taken just 7 days... :)

So go ahead people, follow how to do it on their website and you will eventually get it back. It seems like they are incredibly aware of exactly what they are doing....
