I too have just noticed £10 being taken out of my account by Shoppers Discount having clicked on a link offering me £15 off my next booking with the Train Line I believe.
I am very carefull with my creditcard details and would never have provided them to this company. I am very distressed that this has happened and cannot believe this is legal. Has anyone tried to take this further and what was the outcome? I would def be interested in pursuing this.
To add insult to injury I phoned up to cancel my 'membership' and get a refund and having been promised both I thought that was it. However upon checking their email they only confirmed my cancellation and 'forgot' my refund. Having phoned a second time they have now confirmed my refund.0 -
Here are the notes from my own experience with Shopper Discounts & Rewards, who I noticed had taken £50, being 5 x £10 from my credit card in total during a series of 5 months.
10.11.09: Rang Shopper Discounts & Rewards on 0808 234 1539 at 17:25pm. Spoke to 'Zee'
10.11.09 - Zee told me: A transaction with Dennis Publishing Ltd on 8.5.09 (Magazine Group) kicked off £10 per month subscription with Shopper Discounts & Rewards on my credit card.
I very firmly demanded the subscription with SD&R be cancelled and the charges refunded immediately.
Zee advised me:
1. Within 10 days a refund of 3 x £10 will be made.
2. Within 24 hours a Claim Form will be e-mailed to me to allow me to claim the other 2 x £10 credit card debits.
10.11.09: An e-mail was received just after putting the phone down to Zee. This is what it said:

10.11.09: I duly clicked on the link in the above e-mail and went to the web site. I downloaded the Claim Form, filled it in and posted it to them on 11.11.09
20.11.09: I checked my credit card statement online. I was extremely pleased to see there are 5 credit entries to my card, each for £10. There is one batch of 3 (Trans Date:13.11.09 and Post Date:17.11.09) and one batch of 2 (Trans Date:16.11.09 and Post Date:19.11.09).
They each have the remark: ADJ ShopperDisc.Co.UK £10 (in the 'Credit' column)
I thought this would all be a great amount of trouble. However, it was very easy and straightforward to do.
If I have a tip for you, it's this: Be extremely firm, polite and non-aggressive with your demands. Let them clearly see that you do mean business and will not be fobbed off. The biggest thing here is to communicate that what you might have signed up for, if anything, was clearly not to have money taken from you on a regular 'subscription-like' basis.
I sincerely hope this information helps someone.0 -
Of course they do know LEGALLY that they have no choice in the matter BUT to refund you, however polite you may be. However this is clearly not the point, as it should not come to people having to go to the trouble of demanding a refund in the first place.
It is all very well for those of us who have fortunately discovered such monies being taken from their account without their prior knowledge, to be entitled to a refund (as this is still theft in anyone's book), yet still there are a great many people who clearly are signed up and paying this monthly fee and are still upto now "oblivious" that this is going on.
Quite clearly SD&R would rather discuss this, privately and discreetly, on a "one to one basis" so as to not have to explain themselves so publicly, as they know what they are doing is dirty, wrong, and borderlines what is legal.
Fact is people are being scammed here, unknowingly, then finding out for themselves later and having no choice but to go to the trouble of cancelling and claiming refunds.
For every 1 customer they have refunded, there's another 10 customers still oblivious, ensuring this company are creaming it in. Fortunately, the game is very rapidly winding up, as more and more people become aware of SD&R, either from a quick google, or from such public forums like this.
SD&R refuse to post on this forum about the ethics behind the scam, or acknowledge that customers need to be "hoodwinked" in order to be signed up.
They do not wish to discuss the matter regarding exactly how they get your bank details, at least not on this forum, which they are fully aware of and continue to follow this very forum. All they can reply with is, "its easy to get a refund if that's what you want".
Clearly customers want more than this, they want to be sure that such disgusting tactics used to obtain their bank details, do not happen again. They want the choice to willingly opt in and "manually" input their bank details in order to sign up.
This SD&R claims to be the case. However this also is quite clearly proved NOT to be the case, at least in so far as the "small percentage" of unhappy customers on this "one" forum.
Care to discuss this any further on here MaryO??? or is it still a case of "lets do this via private PM's and Email's" as "MSE wont let me post anymore on here".
Feel free to post your usual "claim a refund" if you wish, but I think everyone on here knows what they want to hear.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Hi
Second time today that moneysavingexpert has saved me money. I noticed a payment to shopperdiscounts on the credit card bill I received today. I got caught when buying tickets through ticketmaster. I have been on shopperdiscounts phone line and cancelled. thanks0 -
Got scammed too via movietickets.com but I'm going to play. Got a £15 voucher from them so went to see 2012 yesterday with kids so I've sent off confirmation from movietickets.com to see if I get my promised £15 cheque.
I also get a monthly £10 voucher for movie tickets and as I love the movies gonna see if I can actually make this work to my advantage. I do a lot of online shopping as well.
I did get signed up in a pretty underhand manner too, so I can understand why a heap of people are steamed.0 -
Hi all
I just cant believe what I have been reading after finding the mysterious £10 charge on my credit card I'm absolutely furious. And to think supposedly solid companies like ticketmaster can allow this its absolutely outrageous!!
i got them to refund my money, but just look what they wrote back, and they make reference to ticketmaster in their email, but when you click onto ticketmaster it actually takes you to icketmaster (although the "t" is written it drops off) What the hell is going on here? Have a read of this and see the links, it takes you to a website that isnt the real Ticketmaster. Has anyone had this and do these !!!!!!!s think we are stupid?
part of their email to me:
We wish to assure you that we take the matter of data collection seriously. In your case, you gave us your consent for ticketmaster.co.uk to transfer your data to us by entering and re-entering your email address and the last 4 digits of the debit or credit card you used when making a booking at ticketmaster.co.uk's site and clicking a 'YES' button below the following language:
These guys need to be taken down this cant be legal0 -

Cheque arrived Thursday, for £15, as promised, so so far I'm £5 up on the deal. Yey!0
