SD&R was on the BBC 'One Show' on Friday, you can catch the clip on the BBC's iplayer site:http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00n9ps2/The_One_Show_16_10_2009/ skip to the 23 minute mark for the feature.

Thanks for that, but did you notice they made a mistake in saying people entered there card details on the SD&R website,I certainly didnt.
  • Had email telling me I had given them my details,I hadnt.Anyway they sending me my money back to my card.
  • I bought some software for converting films to I tunes from Bootstrap and was offered a £15.00 voucher of my next purchase. At no time was I aware that I was agreeing to £10.00 being removed from my account per month, and I didnt give them my card details. They must have got that from Bootstrap once I had accepted the voucher. Luckly they have only had one bite of my cherry so to speak and another was due out today. I have phoned them and they have cancelled my membership and said they will refund the whole £20.00. I will see what happens.

    Topsy:confused::confused::confused:
  • Hi there as you can see by the date I have just realised I have been scammed since June!( Due to ill health I have not been checking my statements as well as I should've that will teach me!) I think via CDWow or Play.com not sure which. I have cancelled my membership by email and will be speaking to them in the morning to hopefully get a full refund Ha Ha Ha!
    watch this space!
  • if you phone or email shoppers discounts and rewards to cancel make sure you say at the start that you want a full refund if you don't ask it wont be offered.

Just this minute found a debit of £10 on my Business Account, strangely enough, from Shopper Discounts. Fancy that!

I was only introduced to that site after purchasing tickets via Ticketmaster.co.uk and receiving and introductory Email from them. I have never agreed to any account with Shopper Discounts and I have certainly NEVER given them permission to access my account.

I will be issuing them with a demand for a full refund and cancellation of any Direct Debit they may have. Should Trading Standards not be made aware of this scam? I will update on any progress I am able to make in due course...

    Update: 26th October 2009:

I have been in touch directly with Shopper Discounts and personally cancelled my 'account' with them. I then went through to Customer Services and demanded that the initial payment/charge was refunded which they have agreed to (10 working days - I will let you know if this refund takes place).

I have also been in contact with Trading Standards who say that because I checked a box saying I would like the £15 off voucher I have basically agreed to any personal information and or bank details being passed on to Shopper Discounts! I thought any Direct Debit and any account access had to be authorised with the account holder??? Obviously not!

What a complete farce, this is nothing more than a cheap scam.

I'm very careful about using the net for credit card purchases, and I wouldn't have knowingly signed up for this Shoppersdiscount.co.uk membership. They took £10 out of my cc account - this must be fraudulent - surely they can't simply say you joined up by clicking on a 'free £15 voucher'link can they?

I rang them, and they agreed to cancel my membership and refund the £10. I got through on the phone quickly, by not entering my cc number, nor entering my membership number (which I didn't know I had) - then you get to speak to a helpful (if !!!!ed off) lady.

I 'joined' by clicking on the discount voucher screen after buying a laptop from Laptopsdirect.co.uk - I'm sure they'd be horrified if they knew what their referral partner shoppersdiscount were doing.

Sites like shoppersdiscount bring the whole on-line shopping system into disrepute. I rang my cc company, and they weren't concerned about what was going on, and will only get involved if I don't get the promised £10 refund.
  • I am now worried. I just bought something from LookFantastic.com and at the end there was a button to save £10 on my next purchase. I clicked the button but when I saw you had to add details and card details I closed the window...I added NO details at all to this. However after reading this I am now worried that just by clicking the link that this company now will have my card details and start debiting my account. Is there anything I can do to make sure this doesn't happen?
  • I just looked at the invoice with the box I clicked

So it doesn't say I will be joined it says *WHEN* I join, which insinuates that clicking doesn't mean I join but it is an invitation to join.
