I too have been conned by Shopper Discount and Rewards with the help of Allposters.co.uk. I do expect to be scammed by companies that just send me random emails, and I would never respond to any of these, but SD&R uses the trust built up between the shopper and the retailer. I fail to understand how it is legal for a company to effectively sell on your credit card details to a third party. If I had entered my credit card details on the SD&R website then I would be fully culpable for my error. However I had no idea that such underhand methods were legal. Surely this is a loophole that should be closed - any idea how to do that - I'm game to make a big fuss about this as I am absolutely livid with Allposters for giving away my credit card details in this underhand way. Obviously I will never buy from them again and will badmouth them at any given opportunity.:mad:0

As a result of this scam I decided to cancel my compromised credit card and get a new one sent out with a new account number. This is obviously an absolute pain, but should prevent any worries about the details being held in America which I know has much less stringent Data Protection laws. Maybe I'm overreacting but better safe than sorry.:mad:0

I have just found this on the Cartridge Monkey website :-
Shopper Discounts & Rewards is a shopping savings programme where you get Cash Back automatically at hundreds of top online retailers so you save every time you shop. Plus you are protected by the Best Price Guarantee, Automatic Extended Warranty Protection and much more.
Shopper Discounts & Rewards is a special rewards promotion offered after making a transaction at our website. The promotion offers a 30-day free trial in Shopper Discounts & Rewards with all the money saving benefits they have to offer, as well as a £10.00 cash back voucher to be used on your next purchase at our website.
If you have signed up for Shopper Discounts & Rewards you would have entered your home address and specific billing information. Additionally you would have created and entered a password for your membership, and also clicked a button to accept the membership.
If you have any further questions, please contact our partner, Shopper Discounts & Rewards at 0808 234 1539 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
As you can see, although there is talk of a 30-day free trial period there is no mention at all of the monthly fee that you will pay if you don't cancel in time.
Very sneaky!What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Dear Trisontona, it looks as if Cartridge Monkey are not giving you the full information unless their way of manipulating you is different from that of Allposters.co.uk.
"If you have signed up for Shopper Discounts & Rewards you would have entered your home address and specific billing information. Additionally you would have created and entered a password for your membership, and also clicked a button to accept the membership"
My sign up was much more passive than that detailed above. I only entered my email addresstwice and pressed enter. All the billing details were sent over from Allposters. The password was generated by them. Unless Cartridge Monkey has a completely different SD&R sign up which is more transparent you are being blatantly lied to. They are implying that you entered your credit card details on the SD&R site - if you didn't it appears they are trying to cover up their actions.
Amazing how these companies think they are doing you a favour.0 -
Luckily I wasn't caught out by Cartridge Monkey and never signed up via them. The reason I posted that link was to show the fact that there is no mention of the monthly fee anywhere on the above documentation.
It's the same if you go onto the main SD&R website. There is lots of talk about all the wonderful "benefits" you will get by signing up with them, but you have to look long and hard before you see any mention of the monthly fee. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Today I am over the moon. I got scammed by this company through all posters a few months ago and shortly after making my purchase, I changed my bank account and didn't realise that SD were taking money from my old empty account for a while.
This resulted in me going overdrawn for the first time in my life and incurring bank charges of £80. I made a song and dance about it and threatened them with the small claims court and today received 3 cheques totalling not £80 but £112. So I have actually made money from the scammers!!!
My message to anyone else caught out by this lot is mention the magic words "Small claims court" and you'll get what you want easily enough.
I cannot understand why companies such as allposters, easyjet and interflora get involved with this lot tho. Surely the backhander they get from SD isn't worth the hit to their reputation0 -
I have just discovered that I have been scammed too. Made a purchase with allposters a while back and when I checked my bank statement saw that shopperdiscounts were taking money from my account.
Must say that shopperdiscounts had no quibble about stopping future deductions and I am in the process of getting a refund.
I will pay more attention in future to purchases via the internet!0 -
I think I've become yet another "victim" of this nasty scam...Recently noticed this strange £8 being taken from my bank account, followed the trail and discovered that I must have clicked through somehow when purchasing from Currys.
I've sent an email to shoppers discount requesting my money back, and terminate my membership (even though I never was a member).
This is yet another money making scam...I never thought I'd become a victim, as I'm normally untra careful about giving my credit card details away.
How wrong I was.
Be careful out there guys.
I'll let you know if I get my money back.0 -
omg!! I had to purchase 2 bouquets of flowers (step-mum & mum), and at the end of checkout on bouquet #1 I saw this link for £15.00 cashback on your next order with Interflora; so I'm thinking 'happy days!' and click the link to save £15.00 on bouquet #2. I only came onto Moneysavingexpert to look for voucher codes and came accross this huge warning about the company that provides this so called cashback.
It would seem that I have inadvertently 'signed up' to their membership this afternoon, so have justsent this email to their customer service email address:
Member No. : 24663XXXXX
To Whom It May Concern
I purchased some flowers through Interflora today and upon checkout saw a link for £15.00 cashback on your next purchase with Interflora. I thought that as I had to buy a secondary bouquet of flowers that this would be excellent value.
Little did I know that accepting the £15.00 cashback was actually a well hidden rouse to sign me up to pay your company £10.00 per month for so called 'benefits'.
Well, I have just looked up your company on www.moneysavingexpert.com and have read warning after warning not to get involved with your company as it is nothing more than a scam.
My instructions are as follows:
- Delete my membership immediately
- Do not deduct £10 from my account ever
I believe that you get your customers to sign up to your 'membership' under false pretences; I have no interest in being a member, and if my membership is not cancelled or I find I am being charged anything per month by your company, I will report you to Trading Standards and take you to court to recoup any monies taken.
I trust I have made myself clear.
Yours sincerely
...I will also follow up with a call their customer services number first thing: 0808 234 1539. I will let you know the outcome; if anyone wants to copy and paste my letter to cancel their own 'membership', be my guest.
Regards

PS Forgot to mention:
Shopper Discount and Rewards already had all of my details; the only further info I gave was my email address + duplicate email address and pressed a 'yes' icon - I thought this 'yes' icon was to give them permission to deduct said £15.00 from my next order, I had no idea that their intention was to deduct money from my bank account each month!!
I thought the '£15.00 off your next order' offer was an incentive to purchase again at Interflora BY Interflora. I'm so disappointed in Interflora - I've been a loyal customer for a long time and am annoyed that they are encouraging their customers to unwittingly transact with Shopper Discount and Rewards - their 'preferred partner'! But once again, thanks to all the members of this site who have exposed this disgraceful, immoral and unethical company for what it really is. Grrr....so annoyed!! I swear I'm not going to let them pull a fast one on me, I will not take no for an answer; I will get my membership deleted and if they so much as take one payment from my account I will go to the papers about this. Vent over...thanks for 'listening'! xx0
