Di I think that was a lovely choice!

My brother in law died when he was 30 and my sister in law chose 'This Charming Man' by the Smiths. He was a big fan and had mentioned he wanted this at his funeral when he died (although he didn't know how soon that would be unfortunately). It was upbeat, but everyone thought that was fitting for a young person anyway.

At my Mum's we had one of her more recent favourites - 'No Matter What' as she loved Ronan Keating and for us we had

'Wind beneath my wings' - which said how we felt about her. Everyone commented on our choices in a positive way.

    I entered the room
Sat by your bed all through the night
    I watched your daily fight
    I hardly knew
The pain was almost more than I could bear
    And still I hear
    Your last words to me

    [Chorus]:
    Heaven is a place nearby
So I won't be so far away
And if you try and look for me
    Maybe you'll find me someday
    Heaven is a place nearby
So there's no need to say goodbye
I will ask you not to cry
I'll always be by your side

    You just faded away
You spread your wings, you had flown
    Away to something unknown
Wish I could bring you back
    You're always on my mind
    About to tear myself apart
You have your special place in my heart, always

    [Chorus]

And even when I go to sleep
I still can hear your voice
    And those words
    I never will forget

    [Chorus]

lene marlin , a place nearby.
    I heart The Capital ;)

Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven is so haunting with hope for the future after a love one has left suddenly.

Blimey, that's another "pass me that noose vicar" tune!! :D As is "tears in heaven". I'm not coming to any of your funerals, I'll be a wreck!!!!

Just wondering though, there's so many ideas on here, songs suggested that people have said they'd like at their own funerals, I wonder how many people's families know what tunes they want played? I don't think my DH knows mine. And I'd feel a bit morbid asking my dad what he'd like seeing as he's 74 - he'd probably be insulted!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

    Very sorry for your loss

I think any funeral song should fit with the person and how they were. TBH I don't understand the trend to try and 'jolly up' funerals, maybe I'm old fashioned but to me a funeral should be sombre. Unless the person who dies was particularly outgoing and/or eccentric I would lay off any funny songs.

Most songs I've heard at funerals seem out of place to me, like they are trying to force emotion (like funerals aren't sad enough!). Songs like 'Angels' are guilty of his IMHO so I would stick to something that meant something to him rather than going for the obvious or forced sentimental type song.

I have silly chats with my Dad about stuff like that all the time :D

He wants 'He ain't heavy, he's my brother' as he has 8 brothers and they will carry him! (They all have the same choice actually, depending on which goes first, I think it's a lovely idea)

Then he wants R Kelly, Worlds Greatest.

Finally he wants, and this is no joke, 'They're coming to take me away haha' :rotfl: :rotfl:

He wants to be cremated, I want him to be buried, so I've told him he better make a will cos he won't have a say once he's gone! (I'm joking, but he did say if I buried him, he would come back to haunt me :D )

when my BIL died he was an atheist and we went into the crem to george formby singing "riding on my TT racer" as we used to go to the TT races every year and then oasis don't look back in anger which cracks me up even now.

my uncle had my way and the person at the crem obviously had a sense of hunour because when they got to the "and now i face the final curtain" the curtains drew across - we were all laughing and crying at the same time
