    How about:
Some You Win, Some You Lose, by Jane McDonald
    Simply The Best Tina Turner
    or My Way

They've all been played at funerals that I've been to

If you want something 'traditional' what about Kathryn Jenkin's 'Time to say goodbye'?

Having said that though I've always been a strong believer that a funeral should be a celebration of a person's life and should therefore reflect that person's personality so if you think that a piece of music would represent that personality then play it - I went to a funeral at the beginning of the year where the deceased had a love of biking and the music reflected this...

    Sorry for your loss.

I attended a cremation a few weeks ago where the final song was "Always look on the bright side of life"!!this did not go down at all well with some family members. In the end the organist was asked to stop playing.

So my point is it needs some thought, as you can inadvertently upset people.

    Car Insurance Carver!
This may seem a bit mad but I have asked my DP that if I go before him that I would like 'staying alive' by the Bee Gees played as I think it would be quite funny......

Have you heard the accoustic version of "It's my life" from Bon Jovi's album of accoustic covers "This Left Feels Right"?

It's a very tamed down version of the original rock song - there's still energy in it, but it's also surprisingly very poignant when it's slow. You haven't given us much detail about your brother-in-law's personality, but if he was a generally happy guy and he died young, "I just want to live while I'm alive" might be quite an apt sentiment.

I would just pick something you think reflected your brother-in-law - the people who knew him best will appreciate it and the funeral should be more for helping them move on than distant relatives who didn't know him well enough to understand what kind of a guy he was.

I agree that "Time to Say Goodbye" is another very moving song. I haven't heard Kathryn Jenkins' version, but the version by Andreas Bocelli and Sarah Brightman is beautiful. "Paesi che non ho mai veduto e vissuto con te, adesso si li vivro'" - "Countries that I have never seen and lived in with you; now I will experience them."

    Good luck choosing something.

How about John Lennons "Imagine". Or just play a cheerful piece of instrumental music.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I don't like that song as a rule, but love this version. However, OMG, if I went to a funeral and they played this, regardless of my relationship to the deceased, I'd have to be carried out of the crem as a blubbering mass of tears!!! In fact, I think I'd like it played at my funeral so I can ensure everyone will be in tears when I'm watching from above! Much the same with the Katherine Jenkins tune.

There was a programme on a good few years back about death/funerals etc... and they showed a funeral of a young woman who died of cancer (I think) leaving a husband and young children, and she chose the song "don't worry, be happy" to be played at her funeral, kind of as a message to her children. They showed this on the programme and it's just about the most upsetting thing I've ever seen on TV!!

Anyway, to the OP, did your bil have a song that was special to him perhaps, or one that will make you think of him/remind you of his specifically? Those are the most appropriate I think, a favourate song of the deceased is almost always appropriate.

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

My aunt chose 'missing you' by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans for my cousins funeral. It was very fitting, as she died unexpectedly at the age of 42.

Although my cousin was funloving, the circumstances in which she died, if a 'fun / light hearted' song had been played it would have been completely wrong. (If that makes sense)

A very close friend of my MIL + FIL died recently, he lost his fight against cancer. At his funeral he had the song "dont stop me now, i having such a good time, i'm having a ball,..... (blah blah) that's why they call me mr Farienheight (sp) I think it was by queen. Because he knew he was dying it was his choice fo song. What an absolutey perfect send off!

I think sometimes it depends on how the person died as to what sort of song you choose.

Other i can think of are
I will always love you Whitney Houston
    Angels Robbie Williams
    Simply the Best Tina Turner.

Wishing you the very best at this sad time.
