The bit that goes on the parcel is the return address, not the recipient address. However the address on the receipt should be the same as that written on the parcel/letter, and my post office always check this and also checks it in the system to make sure it is valid.

Duh, yes sorry I havent done one for a while. But thats what I was getting at, the cashier could easily of misread the street names if they differed or the postcode. They may of checked it but not noticed that. Also I can honestly say I have on many occasions stuck my stickers on myself and then put the parcel through the window at the end, the cashiers have not checked it as the parcel has stayed on my side of the glass until I have got my stamped bit back.

The delivery office were sympathetic. They have confirmed the auto thing (sorry to sound so vague but have 3 monkeys hovering around) and it seems the parcel was delivered on my road.

They want to speak to the postman on duty but he was not around today. THey have also given another person to contact on Saturday - not sure who that is, dh will tell me later.

I really do hope all is not lost. I have learnt lots and thank you all so so much as it has really speeded up the whole 'search' process.

I only have immediate neighbours on my right who work rarely take any parcels in for me. I do trust them. We also know our usual postie so if he leaves parcels at any neighbours he always leaves a card. We have elderly neighbours to our second right and they usually take parcels in for me. We live opposite a park. I can't imagine the post office handing over a package to someone 'hovering' although I can see the possibility.

I think you should ask the seller for a scan of the silver sd form and a scan of the receipt so you can see where the parcel was addressed to

if it was not your address then you may be able to find out where it has been delivered

well you need the seller to provide proof of the address sent anyway, given their uncertainty over where it was posted to

Same thing happened to me before , i was expecting an item from a seller of ebay and when it didn't arrive i tracked it on royal mail website , it showed as delivered , obviously this stressed me out , got in touch with seller and it turned out he got my address slightly wrong .....well i know there was a street right next to me with the same name as mine apart from end letters.

So i tried there address and nobody answered , so left a note with my phone number on , next day a nice lady rang me to tell me the postman did try to deliver but when she noticed the parcel was not in her name she refused it.

Went to sorting office and explained the situation , low and behold they had it in the back , even though the website said it had been delivered.

So things can go wrong sometimes , and there are some nice people out there , just hope who may ever have your parcel is one of these people.

Or its still stuff at the sorting office some place ......hope it works out.

Try not to get to down about it...hopefully all we come good.

    I got my item!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday: we stopped the postie and showed him the electronic proof. He got worried as it looked like his writing on there next to the signature. Dh explained how we thought the item was wrongly delivered and he said he would try to find out as it was a sackable offence to do so! An hour later a car pulled up and a gentleman knocked on our door with my item! It seemed that his wife had signed for it and put it aside and he had been too busy in the week to drop it off!! I must say I wasn't angry as the his wife reminded me of my mother who would have done the same thinking it was my dad's!! The postman must have realised his mistake and knocked on their door that morning but they were out at the time.

Ive learnt a lot from everyone here, thank you so much!

I guess next time I should use a credit card to pay for such pricely items!!:T
