I would email the seller and advise them of the issue. Until you receive the item you paid for it isnt your problem. He can ensure he has provided the correct tracking reference number and take it up with Royal Mail himself. As it is quite expensive he would need to be able to provide a signature to defend a Paypal dispute.

Probably no point going to your depot as I believe the signature cards all go off to be scanned centrally so they probably wont have it any longer.

However, Royal Mail can be complete idiots at times (sorry any RM employees) and it could be that the wrong tracking label has been scanned which has caused the error, but dont waste too much of your time.....let the seller handle it.

    calm down,rm idiot here

most likely(for whatever issue) the driver/postie hasnt delivered the item
there may have been an issue at the delivery office,it could have arrived late, van breakdown, postie taken ill etc etc
tomorrow morning around 7am recheck your status and it will most likely change ot either held at delivery office or on delivery.
the way the RM system now works on 1 delivery is if posties dont return to the office any SD item on delivery is treated as delivered until the details can be updated in real time the next morning

sigs are scanned in at a later date

Thank you all. Im so grateful for this site, it really shows what a community of mse'ers we have.

    The plot thickens.

Seller responds after I request details of the address item was sent to. Instead of South Park Crescent he sent it to Southdown Crescent! I just looked it up and there is a street with tis name in my town. MY husband is going to pop there this morning.

Also waiting for RM to open!!

If the item tracks to an address that is NOT your confirmed paypal address then all is not lost as it is the sellers error and he needs to get the item back ASAP and get it to you.

When I started reading this thread I was very worried that item was received at your confirmed address, but not by you, if you see what I mean! If that had been the case then seller would automatically win a paypal chargeback as all he needs to do is show item tracks to delivery at the paypal confirmed address.

Personally I would be polite, but very firm with the seller now. Explain that due to his error your item has failed to arrive and that you expect him to sort this out today for you. I can't honestly see what he can do, maybe get a telephone number for the people at the address where the parcel was sent..or maybe if you wanted you could go and ask the people if they have your item and explain about the mix up. Edit: Sorry I missed that bit in your post!

This is going to be a difficult one to sort out if the people who received the parcel refuse to hand it over. That might seem unlikely but last year when I received a very large parcel (turned out to be 18 bottles of wine) and asked for advice at least half the people replying told me to keep it and pretent I never received it! In the end I tracked down the real recipient by contacting the sender and the real owner came to collect it.

    Thank you Soolin

I dont really want to disclose what the item is but I know that unless the recepient is either God fearing or with high morals he will keep it! HUsband on his way there now so fingers crossed. If nothing turns up today should I start a dispute through paypal immediately or give seller some time? My main worry is that once he empties his paypal account I'll never see my money again.

You can't start an item not received claim until 7 days from payment..so you are too early. However, I htink you can open a dispute dialogue to sort of 'bookmark' it..and I would probably be tempted to do that ASAP and then escalate to a claim as soon as possible.

Make sure when you do any claim or dispute you mention that the seller used an incorrect address. The chargeback particularly allows very few characters to explain the problem and of course the seller will enter the tracking details..so paypal must be made aware it does not track to you. I don't trust paypal to work that out for themselves..and maybe if they check the tracking they will skip over the last part of the address and just see that it has been delivered.

Yes paypal. Not credit card as had enough funds in my account.

Just a thought and maybe I'm wrong.....but would it be advisable for us all (if we have a cc) to use a cc on such a high value purchase to cover ourselves in an event like this even if we have sufficient funds in PP?

Not a dig at you OP, just wondering for my own future reference really.
