If Britbox stays as proposed as a video-on-demand service with BBC Studios as a partner then it won't require a Licence under the present rules.
It will be the same as the existing UKTV Player (which is wholly owned by BBC Studios) that does not require a Licence.0 -

How does a visit from a TV Licensing (salespeople in effect) prove or disprove you need a license?0

About a month ago I moved into a new property. Second day I was there a letter arrived from TVL telling me, in not so friendly language, that I would need a licence if I watched live TV or used iPlayer. I know that. I haven't, currently, got a TV nor do I watch live or indeed any TV programmes.
First time in my life I have been in this sort of situation and am in no rush to get a television. I am sure I will get more letters from them, all of which will end up in the recycling.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0 -

They ask you. (No, seriously).
Proof = they take a confession statement from you.
Not Proof = they go away, and may come back at a later date.
Legally, you don't have to say anything to them.0 -

De-tune it or just take the cable from the satellite out of the back of the box even 5 seconds of it showing live TV is enough to be caught out if for any reason you allowed TV licensing into your property.0
