Hi all, has anyone any tips on making bread with a sourdough starter? I've been making my own bread for the past 11 years but this bread recipe is something I've never tried. My bread machine is an 11 year old Morphy Richards. Still works very well although somewhat noisey with a few weird creaks and groans. On the other hand so would I be like that if I were doing the job it does day in and day out. I do have a fantastic bread making cookery book, which has, without a doubt, inspired me to try all sorts of stuff. But the sourdough thing is something I've looked at yet never tried. I have read it supposed to make the most fantastic rustic French crusty loaf. Any tips gratefully received :D pinkpig08, how did the banana loaf go using the white flour and real milk?

Morning... not tried sourdough starter, sorry.

Made some loaves on the knead programme and then letting them rise out of the machine and cooking in the real oven ... with disasterous results lol So Im going to stick to the machine...

I have tried sourdough, using my own "brewed" starter

Tried it for a couple of weeks a few years back

For me it was a lot off faff for no big improvement that I could taste so I have returned to normal yeast method

    Used BM not hand BTW

Hi, a friend of mine at work has agreed to go halves on a bread maker. We either buy bread or pitta every day for lunch. I normally have it to go with my homemade soup or pitta to dip in homous.

We could just about afford this Tesco breadmaker. I have a few questions though.

How long does it take to bake the bread? Could we set it off in the morning say around 8.30am for it to be ready by midday?

Is this Tesco breadmaker any good?

Just checked online and it's now £39.97 which is too expensive.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper one that still does the job?
