Thanks Sharon, this will be my next loaf.

Another disaster today, (I didn't open the lid this time, honest!) I was baking a granary loaf from a ready mix - two for £1 at Asda. It rose beautifully but, the next time I looked (through the glass window) the top had collapsed and sunk in!!

That always happens to me too when I use packet mixes.Someone said it is to do with the amount of water that you use, can't remember whether it was to increase or decrease the amount in the instructions. I'm sure someone will be along soon with some info for us.:)

I think it was and also the one from Lidl with lots of seeds in it.

Must remember to reduce the water next time I try a packet mix.

    Ta!

Yes, it was the Hovis Granary bread mix. I bought a few as they were on offer. I'll try with less water; thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone know where you can buy a cheap bread slicer please? I thought there was one in Argos but can't see it in the catalogue.
    Thanks

    Hi Orange,

This is the slicer that I have from Argos. There's an earlier thread on bread slicers that may help you: slicer recommendations ?

Found this one online http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4228211/Trail/searchtext>FOOD+SLICER.htmnot sure if this is the one you mean.
  • Sorry for starting yet another breadmaker thread.

I got a Tesco breadmaker on Friday. I have made 2 loaves in it so far. One was by using a white bread mix from Morrisons and the other was with a Hovis granary mix.

Both look nice and rose ok but the bread is heavy and stodgy and I can't eat it :o

I know it's still early days but I feel really disheartened and wish I had never bought it. Is there something I can do to make the bread nicer? will it be different if i mix the ingredients myself? or do I have to accept that this is how breadmaker bread is?
