Anyone got a Tesco Bread Maker?

Sorry if this is on the wrong board
OH bought a breadmaker as he wanted to help me... he bought the Tesco BMS1.
I've given it a few goes, followed the instructions to the letter, exact measurements. BUT the bread comes out (risen and the right colour/texture) for one half of it and the other half is a hollow open-ended cavity - which is inedible and if I were to throw it to the ducks they would sink!!
The hollow cavity isn't the end where the mixing blade is, I expected that, but this is the other end to where the blade is! I can't understand what is going wrong?
We're thinking of returning the breadmaker to the shop but if its something we are doing wrong, if we can avoid returning it, the better. Unless its a problem with the breadmaker itself, of course!
Has anyone used this breadmaker? Or can anyone shed some light as to what
we could try? Any advice appreciated!!0 -
Is the hole on the top then? (assuming the paddle is at the bottom).
It's possible that the mix is over leavened, and the loaf has started to collapse before it got cooked. You could try using less yeast to make it prove more slowly.0 -
Hiya, I've got this bread maker too. Just had it 2-3 weeks. I know what you mean about the top sometimes being a bit funny. I dont know why that would be as I'm new to this too. Last week, the top end of my bread was a bit hollow, that was white bread. I've just made a wholemeal one and it looks ok. The banana one was fine too. I made pizza dough today and that came out ok. x0

Thank you both!
Will persevere (hate to give up!) a few more times.
Cheers! x0 -
Hi there! I've found an existing thread on Tesco breadmakers. I'll add this thread to that one to keep ideas together

Try and post your recipe to see whether there is a fault .I use tesco fast rising yeast and i find that 1 teaspoon is enough for a loaf of bread.Make sure you weigh out the ingredients correctly.
In my bread maker i normally put liquids first and the dry ingredients last making sure the yeast does n't come into contact with the liquid.0 -
I made another loaf today but reduced the yeast to 1tsp and it *seems* to have worked... haven't tried any of it yet though
Thanks again! x0 -
I too have produced terrible cannon balls, that are supposed to be bread. I have been following the recipe meticulously, and the order specified has been followed. I have made 10 loaves now in the last 4 days, which is a total waste of money for me. I will follow the advice above to use Tesco fast yeast, and see what happens. I have been hand making bread for some years, and qot producing really nice bread. So maybe I have wasted my money. I was trying to reduce cooking by gas, which I find expensive. Maybe I am just a mog (moaning old git!)0

Velogal. Mine fits in a cupboard measuring 35 x 29 x 35 (LxWxH). I hope you read the post above. I have the Tesco one. My daughter has used the Morphy Ricahrds for some years, and produces lovely bread (brown in partic). My buddy has the Panasonic and has made his own for 5 years. Nice bread. He is now scoffing at me for going against his advice to get the Tesco. I hope I dont regret it. May try to get my money back, and revert to handmade.0

I bought the Morphy Richards Fastbake about four years ago and was so disappointed. We used it all the time for the first year, determined to get used to the strange textured low-rise bread, but it's been used less and less since then, in spite of me trying every hint and tip to make the bread nicer. I've just bought a Panasonic, and the difference is unbelievable. I've learnt my lesson now about false economy!0
