My first breadmaker was a supermarket one and I was never able to make a decent white loaf. Granary loaves were generally acceptable. I've never used mixes but would imagine they'd make loaves more like shop bread because I'd have thought they'd have dough improvers etc.

My present breadmaker, the celebrated Panasonic, is quite different but that doesn't help you much. I know Lakeland sell dough improvers that you add to the mix - maybe someone who's tried them can advise whether they're worth trying.

I have the tesco BM, the first loaves i made were rubbish because i used the recipe book that came with it. I dont tend to make the whole loaf in my BM anymore, i use it to make the dough then cook it in the oven. There is a thread dedicated to the tesco BM somewhere, will try and find it for you.

    Hi gunsandbanjos,

Thanks for finding that thread :T I was sure that there was one but couldn't find it anywhere. I'll add this thread to it later to keep the replies together.

I've got the Tesco breadmaker and I've not had a bad loaf out of it yet but i've only ever used recipes form the book and they've all been fine, I've never tried the mixes because i once bought one to make bread from hand years ago and the rolls i made were like dense little rocks!

The bread from the bread machine has always been soft and fluffy and nothing like that?

Maybe it's worth trying one of the recipes instead? I used the normal white bread one on the long setting (not fast bake) if that helps?

    Good luck!!
  • I bought one of the Tesco Breadmakers and took it back because the bread was dreadful - I tried all different recipes but it was always really heavy and stodgy. I don't know if it was the machine or me!

Thanks for the replies. I will have a go at making a loaf using the recipe in the book and see how that goes.

I have considered that I may need to return it if I can't get on with it. Will they give a refund just from me saying that the bread isn't very good?

I just took it into the shop and said that the bread was not cooking properly and was all doughy - I rang the customer services first and they said it was fine to return it and I got a refund without quibble.

I took a vacuum cleaner back to Tesco after a week because it was useless. Not faulty but just didn't pick up stuff well enough. It was cheap and basic and I didn't expect it to be wonderful but it didn't do what it was made for. They refunded without a problem.

Hello everyone, I'm quite new to this site :)

I'd like to buy a breadmaker (mostly for the dough function, because I want to make Japanese-style savoury rolls with toppings, and bake them in the oven) but my kitchen is tiny and there's not much countertop space. I looked at a popular Panasonic model in the shop and was amazed at how big it was!

So I've been thinking of the Morphy Richards Compact Breadmaker (48245) which seems to be a popular and reliable model according to the reviews at Amazon UK, and at H26 x W35 x D23cm, the smallest I've been able to find.

But the Tesco model seems like such a bargain, I'm torn now :)

Would anyone who owns a Tesco model, mind measuring the dimensions (in centimetres preferably) ?
Sorry for the bother, and thank you very much in advance!
