My 'salary' is made up of benefits in partner's name. He is longterm unwell and we get around 20K (have child too). I have no debts but also have a Nationwide card with credit limit of £1900, my first credit card which I got last year. Barclaycard have given me a credit limit of 3.5 grand!!
Maybe the credit limits are randomly selected? Perhaps that works just as well for the card provider! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Salary 20k
14 credit cards (including 5 platinum, 2 gold) with total of £65,000 limit.
All clear apart from one card with 4k at 0% for 9 months.
Best limit - Halifax Platinum, £8,000
Worst Limit - Citibank, £1,400
Barclaycard Limit - £4,000 - and won't budge higher despite having four year record with them.0 -
1. Salary roughly £55,000
2. current outstanding debts - at time of application £9500 on Halifax Plat, Car loan £8000, Mortgage £60,000.
3. What limit Barclaycard gave you £10000!!
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much Halifax £11,250. Co-op £11,200, Frizzell £8,600, Tesco £7,500, Mint £5,500. (Frizzell card only used abroad - no foreign exchange 'loading' and BT on return to current 0% card).
5. any complications that may skew how relevant this is for others, please note. BT £5,500 to Mint and £4000 to B/Card (requested before I knew my credit limit). Now awaiting partner's B/card credit limit to be set and may BT from Mint to take advantage of the extra 4 months interest free.
Have been 'tarting' for over 4 years now but planning to use B/Card as interest free loan and make regular equal monthly payments to clear balance. Meantime use new Halifax One card for purchases.
Hope this helps.
I must say as a newbie this is a fantastic site - wish I'd known about it sooner!0 -
Rate tart, this is off-topic, but don't make "regular equal payments to barclaycard to clear balance." At 0%, why pay it off any earlier than you have to? Make regular equal payments to SAVINGS to clear balance, and then clear it at end of 0%. Let their money work for you.I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.
If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.
Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?0
