our household income is £50k but barclaycard only offered £480!! Egg was the most generous with £5.5k - i never use credit cards and have only started taking advantage now after reading martin's fantastic articles, so that we can pile the money into our flexi mortgage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Salary: 47K
Other debts: Joint Mortgage 150K
Barclays limit: 300 pounds, now increased to 450 (after 6 months) >:(
Biggest limit: Alliance & Leicester 4700
Complications: No bad debt, but had moved house (so not on electoral role) & taken out additional mortgage 2 months before application. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi - i recieved my Barclaycard a few days ago with a credit limit of a miserly £480
I wanted to transfer from my halifax platinum card which is at £2,000.
My limit on the halifax is 9,000, and was similar with my Goldfish card which i got rid of.
I earn £23,000 a year. That is my only debt (apart from the mortgage! :-/) and i am well fed up. Stupid me asked for the balance t/fer before knowing my credit limit - still you live and learn..... >:(This is a system account and does not represent a real person. 1. Your rough salary - approx £30K, including part time job & benefits
2. Whether you have current outstanding debts - a new £8,000 car finance loan - they didn't ask & I didn't mention it, no outstanding card balances, few hundred pounds overdraft while waiting for old car to be sold
3. What limit Barclaycard gave you - £3,500
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much -
Years ago my First Direct Gold Visa card gave me a limit of £22,000 while on benefits, (total income at the time £25,000 untaxed), non-homeowner . I still have this, though they wanted to drastically reduce it if I took out a personal loan for my car finance with them. In the end I went with Black Horse, virtually the same APR, and avoided putting all my eggs in one basket.
MNBA (Alliance & Leicester) recently put my credit limit up from £5,500 to £9,500 without me asking, then when I applied for a Virgin mastercard at 0%, (also MNBA), they split the limit between the 2 cards, £5,000 on the new Virgin card and £4,500 on the old A & L one. This is my main credit card which I use for everything because of the cashback.
On my Egg card, (originally 0% a few years ago), I have a limit of £5,800.

- I am a single parent, working part-time, in receipt of benefits, non-homeowner.
However, I have a very good credit rating - I always pay my credit card bill in full, (except 0% cards), and I'm generally hardly ever overdrawn. Had previous car finance at 0% for a year (£3,000) fully paid-off. Original car finance went through automatically with no problems.A penny saved is a penny gained0 -
our income is based on my husbands earnings of £13000 and tax credits witch takes us to about £19000.
Barclaycard have given me a credit card with a limit of £4100 so i have transferred all my other debts to it.
Natwest mastercard £1800, limit £3750
Halifax 1 £900, limit £3800
We have a £40.000 morthgage and an over draft facility worth £1500 which we are using £500 mof at the moment(my husband was in a road accident and we are waitin for morgage insurance to kick in).
I have tried loads of 0% cards to transfer my balances but no one would touch us for some reason, im well pleased with barclaycard ;D0 -
I'm gutted by my credit limit, which I received this morning ...

3. What limit Barclaycard gave you - £420
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much - I have never applied for a credit card before
5. if there are any complications that may skew how relevant this is for others, please note - does anyone have any idea why I would have such a small limit, when I don't have any other credit cards??!0 -
