Barclaycard Credit Limit v Others

Miserly, do use it. Charge everything you would normally buy (food, etc) on it to use the £1200, and put the £1200 you would have used to buy those things in savings. It isn't a lot, but you might as well let their £1200 work for you until the end of the 0% period, and then pay it off, so you don't have to pay them interest.
Also, after 3 months they may increase your credit limit, which means you can increase your savings by letting them loan more money at 0% for your necessary purchases. Just make sure that you put the money in savings, and don't use it for anything -- you need it to pay off the card.I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.
If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.
Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?0 -
i was a bit scepticle having read the posts on here, relating to the limits bcard where handing out, I applied and recieved my form, i signed it and included a sum to trasnfer from another card of £4k,
I phoned Bcard today, to find out they have given me my highest limit of £9400.
1. Your rough salary - £46k
2. Whether you have current outstanding debts, Capital one 5.9% for life = £4k, mint 0% til oct 04, £1600
3. What limit Barclaycard gave you - £9400 ( i also applied for mbna 12 month 0% - they gave me £9000
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much - barclaycard £9400
5. if there are any complications that may skew - none
i also have a flexible further mortgage (for a car, as it was better deal than Northern Rock, i know it was over a longer period, but we where paying £200 per month against req £70, which made the term only 5 years) which i am comtemplating moving - due to current mortgage deal ending in sept.smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Just had my Barclaycard in the post this morning, having sent the signed form off about ten days ago (it took over three weeks for them to send the thing once I'd applied online)
Rough salary - somewhere between £13.5k and £14k
Outstanding debts - 2 loans with Alliance and Leicester and Lloyds TSB totalling approximately £9000 - £5000 from A+L and £4000 from LTSB
Additionally, £1550 on Egg Card and £750 with Tesco Personal Finance (about to change now I've got my Barclaycard)
Two years to go with LTSB, about four to go with A+L
Barclaycard credit limit - £2350
Card with best limit - Tesco Personal Finance £3000
No complications which would skew the relevancy
(Am 23 years old, don't plan on having a mortgage during my lifetime for obvious over-inflated price reasons - just intend to keep my debt managable - therefore the limits I've been given I think are fine for my circumstances)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. 1. Your rough salary - £20K (own not incl partners)
2. Whether you have current outstanding debts - yes
3. What limit Barclaycard gave you - £1600 ::)
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much -
MBNA - £9,600 on one card £4,600 on another makes grand total of £14,200 (too much I haven't gone to that limit and don't want to)
Marbles (no longer have) gave me £4,500
Capital One - £4,200
I don't have a card with a debt of £1600 or less on it (minimum is Capital with £2K) don't want 3 cards (currently use one MBNA and Capital) and am wondering what use the Barclay Card could be other than to say sod it!
Worse limit ever offered? Barclays - no competition
ETA just read post above me again. If I'd been given that credit limit I could have used the card for the Capital Balance. Can't see logic in how they are offering these limits at all. Will go forth and read article in case it offers any insightI live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -
This is David King - sent that one above before I'd registered
Not too long ago I had a Barclaycard, but at the same time had a card from MBNA that had a credit limit that had creeped up to £4,200 over time.
I got rid of this some time ago, when I did have that Barclaycard, over a year ago from memory, they only gave me a £1,000 limit. That was around the time the boss of Barclaycard shot himself in the foot by saying he wouldn't use his own product in a Select Committee in Parliament.
Profitability of each customer must come into it - they know I'm not married and have no children so they may think they'll get more £ from me, hence the higher limit. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Aha Dave. That could account for it. Given my child owning status. ;D
Am now thinking of using the wretched Barclaycard for the Capital balance less leaving some on Capital which I'll clear in a couple of months. Then keeping Capital card and using it for expenditure but no debt (I get money back on purchases).
Unfortunately does mean I'll be card juggling with 3 cards. Plus it was the MBNA one I'm irritated with and usually transferring from them makes them leap in and offer something to get me back ;)
Maybe Capital will offer me something when I transfer from them and clear that card, allowing me to transfer MBNA to Capital. She says hopefully. I don't want the MBNA while they insist on charging for balance transfers because I don't want or need the higher credit limit (lead me not into temptation).
ETA - apologies for slight digression type hijackI live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -
1. Your rough salary - £19k
2. Whether you have current outstanding debts:
At the time of Barclaycard application:- £1.5k Graduate Overdraft (doesn't appear on credit file though)
- shade under £6k on LloydsTSB Platinum
- ~£2400 on Nationwide VISA at time of application
- ~£3000 on egg at time of application
4. Which card gave you the biggest limit and how much- Egg £4500 since upped to £5000
- Nationwide £2800 (recently increased to £3400)
- Lloyds TSB Platinum £6000
- Barclaycard is the first card I'd applied for at my new address, where I'm not yet on the Electoral Register. Still registered at old address (parents) and have most other Financial products registered there (except Lloyds), and gave that address as a 'previous address' on BC application form.
- Only had Nationwide since Jan 04, and LloydsTSB Platinum since May 04. Latter card hadn't appeared on Equifax and Experian credit files at end of May.
- Perfect payment history.
I guess it's they'd say it was down to the Electoral Register, recent searches and the two recent Credit cards. And the fact I'd maxxed out most of them (on 0% mind, but they are not to know).Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0 -

Wasted my time filling in the form for the new barclaycard. Salary up to 30K,
Excellent credit reference.
Egg credit card limit 9K (balance cleared)
outstanding car loan about 9K.
Received my card today with £300 credit limit.
I cancelled the card after failing to persuade Barclaycard Customer Service dept to raise it, they said they would review only after 6 months.
A misleading promotion, I feel conned. This is not 12 months at 0% in the real world.0 -
