Knowing my luck it will be 1 Euro = 1 pound when I go to Greece in July!!!!!!!!!
If it is, make the most of it - by this time next year Greece (and Italy and Spain and Portugal) will probably have been bought by the Arabs and towed a few thousand miles south.

My opinion (sometimes right, sometimes wrong) is that the euro is over-valued at the moment - probably ok for northern europe, not too sure about southern and eastern. Best tip is to get a Nationwide Flex card - about the best rates you can get from europe ATMs and saves you carrying heaps of cash around.

If we knew the answer to that one, none of us would need MSE.;)

When people go abroad this year and see the absolute crap rate they are getting, all these euro countries will suffer next year from a lack of tourists!
Last week in the hotels in Salou, they were only giving 1-11 and 1-18 in the exchanges.

I`d already decided to holiday in this country this year because of the poor rate.
Let`s hope we have a real scorcher.

Agreed. Already have my Nationwide Flex card. Use it once a year for my holidays only!

    Thanks
  • Hubby and i are going on a cruise round the med next month and we'll need euros for taxis/trains, snacks and gifts so we won't be taking an awful lot anyway but it does make me angry to think that we'll only get 80p per £1.
Anyone know any secret ways around it! ha ha
do you think we may get a better return if we exchanged in port?

If it makes you that angry you could always stay at home, or book holidays outside the Eurozone ;)

The Euro is now roughly at the level which makes things cost the same as they do here.

We've had it good for a long time and now we're not having it so good. That's about the size of it.

Britain's economy is seen as being in a worse state than most of Europe, so we will suffer for a while.

We're going to Canada in July. The $Can is at it's highest level against the £GBP for a long time - we will get approx 10% less $Can to the £ than we would have 12 months ago.

The $Can and $US are now worth the same. I don't think that has been the case for a vey long time.

  • You may get a slightly better rate at the local exchange bureaux in the resorts you visit.

80p for a pound, I will give you 90p for a pound any day, I think you mean 80 cents.
