Spybot S&D (http://security.kolla.de will redirect to the correct site, i've been using it before it became mainstream !) has the advantage over a program like MalwareBytes in that you can download the program and the latest malware signatures on a clean machine and transfer them to the infected machine, and scan without having to let the infected machine online (which would allow the malware to update and become harder to detect).
The other things to do with it include the "immunization" option, which prevents activex exploits from running (SpywareBlaster from http://javacoolsoftware.com does a similar thing, but may catch different exploits), and to install the "hosts" file, which will prevent the computer from being directed to a lot of malicious sites.0 -

Sure, it's not an online scanner, but it's still useful to put the information out there to help people who have problems to resolve them. This is still technically relevant since the most prominent malware issues at the moment are like the XP Security 2012 garbage, which actively prevents people from getting to online scanners.
One last note on the subject for now though, is that the malware can recognise a lot of removal utils and prevent them from running - by renaming the installation files of removal utilities, you can often get around that. That, and booting into safe mode to use them...0 -
I know you posted with the best of intentions but you'll just confuse people who are not as computer savvy as you by going OT. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/forum-faqs#offtopic

It's the developer's own personal site, from before the safer-networking site was created0

Still doesn't answer why you'd post a deliberately ambiguous redirect link.0

I'm a creature of habit, it's legit, and it works - but rather than moan at me, why not just confirm for yourself that it works, and the "new" home for them is xyz, it'd save thread space...0

As for wasting thread space, I'll refer you back to Toxteth's previous posts:Toxteth_OGrady wrote: »Toxteth_OGrady wrote: »I know you posted with the best of intentions but you'll just confuse people who are not as computer savvy as you by going OT.
