And to remove Norton look here, download your choice of A/V first then

Try a couple of them if you are undecided .🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0 -

My Norton AV is due to run out soon. I didn't buy it, it came with the laptop which was a gift. Anyhoo, do I need to uninstall it before I can download one of the free AV's? .
As suggested by others, download your new AV and Save it to your Download File, don't run straight away. If you haven't got a download file, Save it to a Document sub-file or create a new one. Then go to Control Panel, 'Uninstall a Program' section and uninstall Norton. Then go back to your download file, open the new anti-virus file and Run it. It then takes care of itself. Ensure you do not accept any add-ons such as toolbars, home pages etc. (usually untick box) With Avast! you get a trial period and then have to register, but it is very straightforward and I have never had a virus on my pc. If you have any problems uninstalling Norton, I have found this program very good and so easy to use : http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
I have tried most of the free ones over the years, but find that for automatic updating, unobtrusive use (i.e. it doesn.t print all over your emails) I can throoughly recommend Avast! Download here : http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

The online scanners DO fix problems, AVG removes viruses and guess what
yep its Free.. so is Avast, but dont have two antivirus programs installed
at the same time or your PC will go bonkers and die.
Dont worry about the confusion it happens all the time.
For Spyware or Scumware removal there is MS AntiSpyware Beta, Adaware
and also Spybot Search and destroy all free, Just google the names.
The a blue line of text will appear and that is called a link.
Though they fix problems at times it takes much longer to scan than that when the antivirus program is in your computer. And most of the antivirus programs listed are free.
I thank the thread starter for making it easy for people to find online scanners but I really do recommend having an anti virus on your system. Prevention IS still better than a cure.0 -

And only download direct from the Avira site (http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus) or if you're uncertain if you have the right site use a reputable download site such as FileHippo (http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/)0
