  • Note: You may find that these do not function when run from browsers other than Internet Explorer.

If you run from an alternative browser and an error message appears, try again using I.E.

This is true, although of those that only work with ie, most of those will work with ie add-on, if you use FF. Can't say about other browsers.
My post here states whether they require ie/work with add-on in most cases.

Personally, I tend not to use anything that tries to force me to use a particular browser.

Welcome to the forums btw

Most should show the System requirements for using the scanner, listing the supported browsers. For example ESET state:
    System Requirements

    Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000/NT

Internet Browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (with ActiveX turned on), Support for non-IE browsers (Firefox, Opera, Netscape, Chrome, Safari and others)

    Memory: 32 MB

Disk Space: Minimal - 15 MB, Optimal - 30 MB
User Permissions: Administrator rights are required to run ESET Online Scanner

Two things. Firstly, it really doesn't (your computer would thank you if you ran something less bloated). And secondly, I wasn't aware they had an ONLINE virus scanner.
  • I would highly recommend AVG.

This is a great collection of Free Online Scans. I will choose the best one among it. Any suggestion which one will be the best among the above?

I posted my findings a few pages back: here. It was while back now, though I've done a couple of updates since. It might help you decide where to start; however, things change, so I'm afraid it's going to be a case of checking them out for yourself.
