Cooking Fish?

Sardines are just like that but the flesh should come away from the bigger bones quite easily once it is cooked and you can just eat the smaller ones because they are so tiny and flexible. In fact you can pretty much just crunch the lot up like you do with sprats.0

I make fish pie with Coley. It looks grey on the slab but it cooks white and is cheaper than Cod.
Have you tried Smoked Mackerel? It can be eaten as it is but I prefer to zap it in the micro for about 30sec and then serve with mixed veg.0 -
Hello everybody. Salmon fillets - bought on Saturday from Tesco fish counter, placed in fridge - (use by date - 1 April). found one packet in fridge yesterday so I chucked it in freezer (one day after USE BY) Just found another package of same lurking in back of fridge! I have chucked it into the freezer also -3 April - will it be ok? (I didn't buy it - the OH and DD did, so I had no idea about it). Or is it wasted? (Please don't ask me to smell it!)
Thanks in advance.0 -
Fish goes stale very quick, although it may be safe to eat it? It probably wouldn`t taste very nice.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

thanks for your reply! Oh great - that's about £7 worth of fish to just chuck out. How annoying (totally BROKE at mo as I'm not working).0

Don't chuck it out unless it smells awful. I would hope that fresh fish bought on a Saturday would last until the Tuesday. If you don't want to smell it get DH or DD who bought it to smell it.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

I wouldnt risk it with fish myself.
If its past the use by date I would bin it, it's not worth the risk of getting food poisoning.

Hi gagglesdad,
If you are counting calories it's nice cooked in the oven , just wrapped in foil (with or without a knob of butter) and a slice of lemon and some black pepper. Or you could use it to make fish fingers, fish cakes or fish pie.
There are some nice ideas on these older threads:
