I cleaned out the little shed today. It was full of cobwebs and an ENORMOUS spider. We've got a big shed at the top of our garden near the house which we keep the bikes in etc but the little one, which was here when we moved in 16 years ago,is small, leaning and leaks. Just right for sticking the gardening tools in as it is right beside the veg patch
.
In the afternoon ,I cut back a rose bush that was threatening to scratch our eyes out as we go out the back door. Then I made biscuits.
For tea today,I made pasta (tagliatelli) and we had it with chicken and mushrooms with a tomato sauce.
Ticklemouse: I used to have the same problem re time for me but solved it for myself, by going out on a saturday .The first time,I told my oH I was going out by myself on Saturday and he was going to have to look after the kids(he nearly fainted). Then on saturday I put on my coat and went.I had a lovely time looking around the shops and then had lunch out. I still do it sometimes ,though now the kids are teens the problem is not really there.0 -
I've been to work, saw my dad and brother (on way back from airport / Spain so they popped in to give me some dutyfree) and am now meant to be packing to move house tommorrow!! :j But am bored of packing! OH decided to go pub after work last night and came back at 1.30am, so he's not helped *sigh* have to do everything myself! Place needs scrubbing as well
Jo - I have the same thing, I lived in Nottingham for 18 years, and never once went to Sherwood Forest / anywhere Robin Hood themed! I only went to the castle (which isn't a castle) on a school trip. Now I live in Stoke though, so there's not much to see!
About the Roman Baths though, when my mother was a student, they thought it would be *funny* to go to the baths at 2am after a few :beer:Apparently they weren't open to the public then. Needless to say, that's the night she almost earned herself a criminal record for bresking and entering!! (She said they're nice BTW)

Lol!! Ill make sure I dont do that then!!
You live in Stoke now?? Im a born and bred stokie, down south for uni and now living here! There is stacks to do in stoke if you know where to look!
Firstly, the Potteries museum in Hanley is good, and its quite big and has a spitfire in there (Reginald Mitchell was the inventor, and a stokie!!). Also, there is the Wedgewood monument, its not particularly interesting but a great place to see the views of the countryside, and is located in between Waterhayes Village and Red Street in a field you can walk up to - http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=382460&y=350945&z=1&sv=382250,350750&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
Also - legend has it that it was over 70ft tall years ago and was struck by lightening and re-fashioned into a 20ft tall monument. Its so close to my parents house, I used to take a walk up there to get away from the world, especially in the sun.
Obviously the area is a big pottery place, so The Gladstone Pottery Museum and Wedgewood Visitor centre's are fun if you like that kind of thing!
Alton Towers is close by, as is Stafford, and there is some really amazing old houses there in the town centre, those black and white beamed affairs that are all slanted! Lichfield Cathedral is quite fun, its quite small but beautiful. If you are into walks, near to Kidsgrove is the Canal, and that has some good walks and several pubs, as well as loads of blackberry bushes everywhere, so take some plastic containers!
Newcastle Carnival should be held at some point too - although thats more for the kids tbh! Trentham Gardens are also quite nice for a good walk, and has an Aldi on the way there from newcastle direction, so convenient for doing some money saving shopping too.
My personal Favourite would be either the potteries museum as I used to go there all the time with my little bro, or take a drive over to Chester - beautiful, and they have a zoo too. Oh, and if you like archaeology, then the potteries museum has a load of archaeologists, if you get in touch with them they are always looking for volunteers to help out on site and reimburse travel costs - I did two weeks in 2000 and had a lot of fun on the site of a 13th century Moat House, and found a green glaze jug handle and a knife blade - they were quite impressive and were some of the best small finds on the site!
If you want any more ideas, give me a quick PM - I know the area really well!

Jo - yep, living in sunny Shelton (until 2moro - moving to Hartshill!) I'm at Keele which is why we're here.
Wow, i really didn't know there was all that to do in Stoke!!! (I knew Alton Towers obv) Thanks for all those ideas, I'll have to drag OH out a bit more (he only seems to know the pubs  )
We went to Newc Carnival last year, it was funsat out, had a beer, watching the kiddies all dressed up! (apparently, The Sentinel said something this week about they could cancel it to save the Council some money tho! )
Havn't been to Trentham yet, but plan to now they've got monkeys! Am also looking into it as a venue for a uni ball (they do huge marquees)
Have been to Chester in the past to visit family but that was years ago, my (soon-to-be) housemate is actually from Chester, so we should get over there sometime soon.
I am heading down to Stafford soon, though only the train station, so I can go to V Festival, so I guess that doesn't really count!!
Thanks for all the ideas - I underestimated Stoke!!0 -

Well she did say she'd keep posting the "still pregnant" message on each OS daily thread until she wasn't still pregnant, so she's quite conspicuous by her absence!
Where are you Lillibet, I hope you told your DH to let us know what's going on! :j
(Sorry, I'm TOTALLY not a baby person, but I get all excited when other peopole have them!)Operation Get in Shape

Good luck!! I hope it all works out for you! We are desperately trying to find reasonable accommodation down here for me and boyf, and everything goes within minutes and is too small and very expensive! Im sure you will manage with all the space too - you'll fill it with breadmakers and sewing machines if you are anything like the rest of us!!
