Margaret - part of ladder safety is that someone must stand on the bottom of the ladder to ensure that it doesn't slip, especially if there's nowhere safe to tie it in place at the top. So if you can't bear to be out there yourself you must ask a neighbour or a friend.

OH will then come home from work & say "have you had a nice relaxing day off?"

One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his
house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing
in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the
front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door
to the house and there was no sign of the dog.

Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess.
A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one
wall .. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel,
and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on
the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the
floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was
spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of
clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that
something serious had happened.

He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the
bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and
more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and
toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the
bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and
asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What
happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home
from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?"

"Yes" was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

Morning everyone,

Fresh bread this morning; I just love waking up to the smell of it baking and what a lovely breakfast it makes.

Washing was pegged out by 7.30am this morning...I was awake early, don't know why but thought I'd get up and make the most of the beautiful sunny morning.

Having said that, I am still pottering about in my pj's. Ex-OH has picked up DS and will return him at around tea-time so I have time to do more washing and some tidying up and get my hair done. Guinea pigs and fish desperately need cleaning out too.

We have just come back from a week's holiday and unfortunately we didn't do our sums right and have ended up £65 over our overdraft limit. We usually check regularly on the internet for our balance but we forgot a couple of cheques that hadn't cleared. Our welcome home was £118 in bank charges  (3 x £30 for letter (by e-mail) telling us they had cashed an item when we were over our limit and 1 x £28 for going over in the first place.) Previously I would have kicked myself for this but accepted it. However, I was reading on here last night that this has been successfully challenged in the courts so I will ring/write to them and see what they can do about it. Yes I know I shouldn't have done this, but these charges are almost double the amount we have infringed by and I think this is excessive!

Oh well, I am now on a mission. I will let you know how I get on.

Have a good day everyone.

Mornin, I am finding it hard to spend being at home hobbling. Mind you I am really quite bored and am spending hours on here to give me something interesting to do. I am no sleeping very well as I get my exam results this week and I am really worried that I might not have passed. I really hope so - fingers crossed.

Havent been shopping for two weeks and am down to a bag of pasta 2 tins of tomatoes (the latter OH went out and got the other dayas wed run out) and 7 quorn sausages. Have a few more tins such as beans and rice but am determined not to shop until Tuesday online. I get paid tomorrow but I want to try that idea where by you do not touch your salary for a day first month two the second etc.

Off now to browse the boards.

Update on the bank charges fiasco.

After a 25-minute call to the Halifax, I spoke to a manager and was refunded 2 x £30 'as a goodwill gesture'. It was quite a battle though and I had to threaten that my partner move his savings elsewhere. If we hadn't had this lever to use on them then I don't think they would have budged. £58 is still nasty but not quite as bad as £118!

Have a look in the banking and current accounts thread for the discussion on this subject. I had to quote quite a few legal terms and various terms of acts, etc as well as details of a recent case where someone was successful in sueing Abbey.

Three cheers for MSE!

Good afternoon all.

Sunshine and showers here today - have put the washing out tho - will have to stay there till it dries.

Went to France yesterday and ended up getting stuck at the euro tunnel terminal for over an hour in a traffic jam on the way back ......I know they were doing extra safety checks but the organisation was appaling. Picked up some wine, beer, french bread and cheeses, yummmms!

Been off to the do the supermarket shop today and only managed to spend £39 which is unheard of here lately - kids being off school seems to double my shopping budget....Have just put some mince and veg's going in the slow cooker to make some pie fillings...will make them up tomorrow - easier when the filling is cold. Toad in the hole for tea tonight - DD's favourite - they stayed with their grandparents last night and we'd planned to treat ourselves to a chinese as a treat - but getting stuck in France put pay to that and we didn't get home till 11pm - suppose we saved money tho!!

Just about to sort out all my ebay bits that have sold - made £125 which we're really pleased about, just need to get all the parcels labled up and off to post tomorrow.

DH should hear about his promotion this week - fingers crossed!!!!! If he gets it we're going to dissapear off on a long weekend break somewhere - he's suggesting Dublin or Spain...I'm saying "lets go stay with your parents - free accomodation and they can baby sit for a few evenings".....ever the OS MSE eh!!!

Hope you all have a good one.

LOL @ ancasta (but very quietly tho') I don't do hangovers - they make me far too ill and still have to look after boys :)

Managed a bit of a lie in today as Mr TM got boys their breakfasts. I started the mountain of washing that Mr TM brought home as well as the ironing (will this pile never dwindle?) So, after ironing for 2 hours, I asked Mr TM to get the boys their lunch. of course, what a silly thing to ask. he's home for 4 days beore we go away but the gardening HAS to be done today (despite the fact it tipped it down here for 2 days) He CAN'T POSSIBLY be expected to wash his hands and make some butties whereas I can wash, iron, tidy, clean and do food before rushing off to deal with my parents and take dad back to hospital. I was sooo mad as when he got hme yesterday and saw how tired and stressed I am he told me it would be OK as he was here to help me now!! WHEN? That's what I want to know. When it suits him I suppose. So, threw jam butties at boys (Mr pigging TM can starve, but the amount of weight he put on at camp will sustain him for a few years!) then went to peg more washing out. His stuff is pegged by 1 peg wherever I caught it which means everything is bunched up and his best shirt is caught on the line by a cuff and dragging on the grass :D Who cares, I don't iron it :D (He also hasn't noticed)

Other than that, not too OS today. Don't know what to do for tea. I will be at mum and dad's I expect so will get something easy out of freezer in case Mr TM complains (Like I'm listening today) I need a few bits from Tesco - milk, bananas and strawbs and kids vitamins should do as I have enough of everything else to do us until Thursday.

I'm going to wind down on here for 5 minutes before switching the iron on again. God, why are men so infuriating (I, of course, realise that I am perfect :D:D:D) Oooh, cuppa tea might just hit the spot too.

Hi squeaky

Thanks for the advice, but too late - by the time I saw your post he's already done it! I went out to have a look before he moved the ladder again and it did look pretty well 'anchored'. He doesn't take risks, he's not like his son-in-law who fell off a ladder at work recently and broke both wrists!!

He's done everything that needed doing from a ladder, now the rest of the walls that need painting are at a lower level and manageable.

Thanks anyway!
