Work today for me as well. Bacon pasta salad for lunch (lefties from last night), steak out of the freezer for supper (so that's why we're not doing well on the Grocery Budget Challenge! No seriously, rare treat, and oh and I seldom eat out).

So, what have you all got planned for the w/e? Errands to run tomorrow am, oh to opticians (and it's the first time ever that we've got ALL cash up front for his specs!). I'm going to "treat" myself with a trip to Waterstones - just unearthed a £10 voucher from the last but one birthday that I'd put in a "very safe place", so I'm going to check out the recent old style book thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=78137. Also have a list of bits and bats to pick up c/o Boots Advantage Card points.

Would like to do a mini bake at some point over the w/e, and I'm sure a trip to the park will feature in the mix.

    Wishing everyone a great w/e!

    Hi everyone!
Am here as usual on my lunchbreak. Don't think there's going to be great deal of scope for OS this weekend as we're off to visit OH's parents and we're taking lunch as they really find it too much of a strain now. Perhaps we'll go out for a family walk and take a picnic on Sunday and at some point I shall try and get some baking done. We did at long last set up a proper budget planner after many weeks of proscratinating last night so at least will know where all those pennies go now. Am looking forward to our vino and video [hired a video rather than a DVD from the library as it's cheaper] this evening. Hurrah!! Now off to get the small person before his friend comes over for tea this afternoon.
    Regards

    Afternoon!

Im being Lazy today! Its not going to last too much longer though, as the landlord has asked us to clean up as there are potential tenants coming for viewings tomorrow, so all of our stuff thats been packed has to be moved out of the hallway and into the spare room neatly, the bathroom needs the floor doing, the excess laundry needs to be moved, and all my assorted cooking bits need to be moved in to the cupboards out of sight (my bags of flour have been sitting on the kitchen top for easy access :o as well as all my herbs etc, I keep them close for ease but Landlord wants sparkly areas....). SO ill be cleaning and laundering all day - but ive decided that they boyf is going to move his !!!!!! and so something too.

Not that they will move in anyway when they realise its a nightmare and has prepay key meters for leccy and gas, and 7 bedrooms make high bills.

I went on a mission last night and managed to clean the bedroom thorougly, cleaned the computers and windowsills, hoovered the top floor, and filed both mine and boyf's mail, and organised loads of bits ready for potential moves. Tonight Im calling a few private landlords in the hope that they havent yet let their homes go to others, because I need one!

Obviously BB is on tonight, and thank god its the last one, im getting bored of it and can hear it when im on the PC and boyf is watching it.... Time for some decent TV for a change (hopefully anyway!).

Actually, im being exceptionally lazy when I have so much to do, so id better get on really, so much to do, so little time! Ill report back later with what I actually did, which I hope will be more than I actually listed....

    Jo xx

So the day has gone well, all the laundry is stashed in the car ready for tomorrow mornings laundry session, the bathroom has been cleaned to a very nice level and the kitchen is sparkly and gleaming, and the cupboards have been organised and ex housemates rubbish (moulding brown sugar anyone??) has been all binned. Ive Done all the Handwashing and its now on the indoor airer drying gently in the breeze coming through the window.

More packing has been done and all put neatly into one area, there is only a few cups to be washed..... I love Fridays! And - I used Vinegar for cleaning for the first time ever!

I've had a wonderful day but not at all old style :D I drove myself to Warwick to meet my friends off another website and we had a whale of a time with all the kids playing together in the park whilst we sat and nattered.

Got lost 3 times on the way home which isn't surprising as I don't normally drive further than the supermarket but I eventually found my way home and found DH had washed up and cleaned the kitchen, done 4 loads of washing (don't know where he found that from) and he made me a coffee and an egg and bacon sandwich when I fell through the door :D

So tired now though, I'm having an early night tonight.

Today I decided to try and mend the tool shed.
We had a bit of spare roof felt in the shed and a big hole that needed covering on the shed roof so I struggled with the roll of felt for a while and then went and woke DS so he could help me. Eventually we got it fixed on and neither of us fell off the ladder ;)
We had bacon and pineapple pizza for tea with salad (mostly next doors cucumber and tomatoes as they had a glut).
This evening Im reading yet again as there is really nothing worth watching on TV.
We are trying to be more energy efficient and turning off the cooker , microwave , TV and freeview box at night. I realised we hardly use any of them during the day either so they are only getting turned on at the mains when we are actually using them.I wonder if it will make any difference to the electricity bill.

    Evening everyone.

Well, I did start posting this morning, but got half way through when I had to stop WW3 i the living room. The boys have been horrible today - both over-tired and fed up. Ds1 wakes too early and DS2 won't go to sleep at night!!

Anyway, spent today running between washing machine, kitchen, floor currently being vac'd and garden to push boys on swing/move slide/put up collapsible tent thingy. Managed to get loads done however. Then my friend said she'd look after the boys whilst I went to visit Dad in hospital (her 2 DS's were in same state as mine too :)) Got all way to hospital and found he's been sent home for the w/e!! Good job I hadn't had to pay for parking - found one of the free spaces. So, as I was in that part of town I went to Matalan to buy DS2 some t-shirt for hols. Also bought 4 family DVD's for under £20 to take with us, so DS1 is really pleased.

When I went to pick boys up, my friend forced a glass of wine on me (she really had to twist my arm) then fed us all :) Got home about 9pm, put boys to bed and was going to have a really early night ie not switch pc on........however I realised my car insurance runs out at midnight and the phone lines closed at 10pm (this was at 10.10) so got up, and renewed online :) However, this means MSe beckons...and here I am.

Mr TM is home tomorrow evening so will make a nice meal - haven't decided what yet but I'll think about that tomorrow. I have a nice lamb shank which I may do in the slow cooker.

OK - 10 mins surfing then sleep. (yeah, right.....only 10 mins?)

  • Morning everyone!

Well after a busy week I am looking forward to a bit of an OS catch up this weekend. Busy making cards this morning - everyone in my family has a birthday coming up, and will make a few extra for sale if I have time. I am then cycling into town for a facial (free as I have a gift voucher) before heading off to the park for a picnic with some friends.

Need to post just one parcel from an Ebay sale today so my spending target is under £1 if I can avoid the shops whilst I'm in town!!

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning!

I'm off to a picnic and open air theatre this evening with friends. We're all supposed to bring contributions for the picnic. Most people are going to stop off at M&S but the friend that's organising it said to me 'I hope you're going to bring something home-made - your food's always fantastic' Just look what trouble you OS lot have got me into!!!

Now I have to think what on earth to take. I have a small range of dinner party dishes that I normally do for friends because I know they'll work well (hence my reputation as a good cook) but I haven't prepared much fancy picnic food. I thought I might do Delia's asparagus and cheese tart, which is rather yummy and should cut up into picnic-sized slices. I'm 'expected' to take home-made cake too so I thought I might try a new recipe - cinnamon ginger cake - as I've got virtually all the ingredients in the cupboard already. Of course I'll have to cut it up to take it to the picnic, which means that I'll have to try a piece before I go. What a shame.........

I'm also thinking about trying Nigella's chicken pilaf recipe. Again, I've got a lot of the ingredients in the cupboard. According to the recipe it's supposed to be served hot but I think it'll work well cold. The chicken's marinated in yoghurt & spices, then mixed with rice and various different toasted nuts. What does everyone else think - will it work as a cold chicken salad-type thing?

All sounds good to me! If you decide you're not sure about the chicken there's a Sausage and Rice Salad in the Old Style Recipe Collection.
