Am I allowed to strangle my friends? They've just rung now - less than an hour before we are due to meet - and changed the plans because it's a bit drizzly. We're going to a pub for supper instead of a picnic, apparently. I wish they'd decided this earlier this afternoon, I've just spent several hours slaving over a hot stove preparing food for the picnic. Not all the food is suitable for freezing and I live on my own so some of the food will probably go to waste. Not to mention all the money I spent on ingredients. I really can't afford to eat at the pub now that I've already spent money on food so I'm going to eat here and join them later for a drink. There's enough food here to keep me feed for a couple of weeks!!!

Is it too late to invite them all to yours and to bring a bottle with them? Or TWO since you've made so much grub?

  • Well my cycle ride into town and back turned into a bit of a swim!! It was lovely and clear when I left this morning in a T-shirt, but by the time I wanted to come home the heavens had opened and there was nothing for it but to get on my bike and just get wet. Five miles home in the pouring rain and I looked as though I'd been through a swamp soaking wet and muddy - that's the last time I try and be healthy and save on my bus fare!!

The planned picnic ended up being an indoor one with board games so a nice afternoon anyway.

Felt happy today as we picked up our "new" car from the car sales place. Feeling chuffed as we have been saving up for a lolng time to be able to pay in cash and did not have to get any credit for it. Also did a bit of home cooking as the weather in my neck of the woods was bad today. Made some banana chutney for Christmas hampers, and started wrapping some Xmas gifts up.

    Hi everyone,

A bit late for this post I know, but I have just come back from my holiday so have been busy unpacking. We camped in the New Forest for 5 days then spent a night in Poole with OH's brother. We had fantastic weather and our 2 kids now love camping. Not too sure if this would have been the outcome if it had poured all week though....

Saved money twice over on our holiday with National Trust membership card - first time saved about £5 on car park fee at Studland beach then again on our visit to Brownsea Island (£10.50).

Just about to put breadmaker on for first home-baked loaf for a week (can't wait). Didn't bother to start on the pile of holiday washing as it was pouring down when we got home so that pleasant treat awaits tomorrow.

    Nighty night.

  • Morning everyone!

I'm up early as driving 150 miles to visit my parents for lunch. It's a bit of a long way but there's not much I wouldn't do for free food!! I think it was supposed to be a BBQ but looking out of the kitchen window it's looking a bit wet at the moment.

    Have a good day everybody....

That's not what I call free food! I drove 223 miles to a wedding yesterday and it cost me £35 in fuel, their food was'nt free either:rotfl: .

Have a nice day, you can put no price on friends and family gatherings anyway.

How many people going to church today?

Well I've got a whole day of OS cleaning planned for today. OH is at work, so I can get on with washing, ironing, change the bed, mop the kitchen & living room floors, hoover everywhere else, clean out the rabbit hutch, meal plan for the week, Sainsbury's to buy food for said meal plan & petrol, then cook dinner (involving leftover chicken from last night). If time allows I'll start getting things ready for our holiday in 2 weeks.
OH will then come home from work & say "have you had a nice relaxing day off?"
    Erm.............
Anyway, chatting on here isn't going to help, the kitchen floor will not clean itself. (I wish the rabbit could be trained to clean out her own hutch though!)

    Hi all

We normally go to church Sunday mornings but not today. B borrowed a ladder yesterday from the builder 2 doors down, he planned to paint the gable-end of the bungalow, the only part that needs a ladder, but it came on to rain!! He's going to do it this morning. He has to psych himself up to do it, and he said yesterday, this is the last time - he used to be able to manhandle a big ladder into position, he was young, fit and strong....now he's 70 and he doesn't have the strength any more. He's very safety-conscious, otherwise I wouldn't hear of him even attempting it. But I'm not going out there to watch.

We finished up the pack of beefburgers, one of those we bought at the farm on Friday. I had a tomato with mine, locally-grown from the fruit-and-veg shop, and it all tasted 'just like food used to taste', real food, and good for us. It will keep us going probably until mid-afternoon and we've got some rare breeds steak for later.

Enjoy whatever you do today! I'm going to go back to transcribing part of the 1861 census for the Freecen project.

    Best wishes

    Aunty Margaret
