Nothing wrong with an expanding glass collection. it's one of the few things my education was worth ... although my personal favourite was always hoegaarden glasses, which are massive and require a VERY large bag to sneak away
that said, they bounce if you drop them, so you don't need many!
Slapped wrists and blushes here too. I had a very successful book day yesterday and for fear of DS falling asleep in the car on the way home we had McDs for tea. I had a horrendous tum last night, though, probably as we're so used to decent food now, so we won't be going again for a while!
My dress for DDs christening arrived yesterday too. Boden sale (£23.50 from £60 so I'll have to add that to the pin money pot woo hoo!) ven more exciting is that the 14 didn't fit, so I got the 12 ... I'll be a yummy mummy yet :rotfl:
kiddy birthday party today in a pool (I must remember to shave) and hopefully tea at MILs, so there's some more money saving potential. Hopefully we'll get our Makro card today too s we can shop tomorrow for food for the christening. This week's meal planning is not easy because of Sunday, plus family might be visiting plus I'm hoping OH will treat me to something for my birthday ... how to ask without making him feel bad if he hasn't ?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -
Morning all,
I didn't think I'd sleep last night with DH not being there but actually I slept like a log and even fell asleep halfway through CSI so I was gone by midnight and didn't wake up until DD2 started shouting for me at 8.30.
We've had such late mornings this holiday, the kids are going to have a rude awakening come September, especially DS as he has to be in school by 8.30 now. I have a cake to bake this afternoon as I am off to meet some members of another website tomorrow. I can't hoover as DH has gone off to bed now so I will save that job for later.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
the hoegaarden ones are our faves too, there HUGE, they need two hands to lift when they are full.
If we go to our local "real ale" pub he makes me take my "shoplifting back" which fits a couple of pints in. its shameful i know.
I use my hoegaarden one to measure food out when cooking etc... and as a vase0 -
Up with dd at 5.30 (v. early for me "best part of the morning" said dh as he rolled over and went back to sleep!), but this is v. unusual for her, so mustn't grumble, I'm a little bit ahead of myself this morning.
Made dd's lunch up (whizzed up ratatouille set aside from last night's dinner, to which added mini pasta, peas and carrots pieces); load of laundry in and out drying outside; breakfasted; emptied dishy; dispatched dd to nursery;vacuumed downstairs and now I'm at work.
Nothing out of the ordinary planned for today - I want to make a couple of cards (birthday card for my Grandma, and an acceptance card for a wedding) this evening, but we'll see if I feel inspired after another round of baby wrestling!
Have a good 'un, all.0 -
morning all
not been a terribly OS week for me but at least I am still trying. My parents were visiting over the weekend and Dad did some DIY, which looks fab. Mum took me to the huge sainsbury's and I managed to stock up my freezer and store cupboard. Have got loads to keep me going and will only have to buy a few fresh bits and veg now for a while, which is great.
I have been good so far and last night dinner was left overs. I used the dregs of fresh pasta left by my mum, the end of a head of broccoli, the left over tomato sauce from the weekend (HM) some withering cherry tomatoes and half a red pepper and the end of the cheddar cheese. Yum. Tonight I am going out so think it will be a baked potato, but not sure what to have with it.
This weekend I am planning an OS few days. I am desperate not to spend any unnecessary money. Going to have a cooking/cleaning day on saturday and relax on sunday with a good book and all the food I made the day before!
Also have just got my mum's old breadmaker - turns out it's not a panasonic, but a Russel hobbs breadman pro. So will also have a play around with that. I fancy trying to make pizza dough.
Right, better go and do some work as that's where I am right now. Only 4 weeks and 1 1/2 days left.................
:wave:r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
been too busy to log on the last couple of days.
I finished my cold frame yesterday by painting it with left over paint from the shed.So far the whole thing has cost me £1 as I found we had enough screws left over from other jobs. All I had to buy was a tube of strong wood glue from poundland and I didnt need all of it either.
Today I emptied the old water butt that has been sitting at the bottom of the garden for 10 years and brought it up to beside the house. This weekend we are going to divert the rainwater pipe from the kitchen roof into it .
Yesterday was biscuit day although DD decided to make currant buns instead.
Also made up a fresh batch of yoghurt.
2 loads of washing on the line.
This afternoon I'll get on with yet more digging as I only have one more strip of land left to dig to complete my huge veg plot.
Just off to make fried eggs on toast for our lunch and no idea what im making for tea yet.0 -
Afternoon all!
Didnt get to bed till really late last night  so im exhausted and didnt wake up till 12! Its really hot down here too, I am so looking forward to winter.
Just having a morning cup of tea now and had another mystery shopping assignment offer, so thats good. I intend to do some cleaning and hand washing today, then might do some batch cooking tonight. I also have a couple of letters to write again, a couple of phone calls and some emails, but there isnt much going on!
Again, I dont really have a lot to do today, so I might go out and have a wander round town. Alternatively, Ill just start trying to pack some more stuff up for the move, and watch TV!
Ill report back later if something interesting happens!

Hi everyone!!
Not a very OS day today as am at work but I think I have picked up a few more hours so it all helps. OH got another order yesterday on the back of one he's already completed for this customer so have got the pleasure of going to the building soc to pay in £200! Am off to the library shortly so see if they stock any of the books mentioned on the OS book thread aswell as borrowing a DVD for our monthly vino and film night that OH and myself have promised ourselves as a treat for tomorrow night. I had great plans for continuing painting the hall this week but am watching the athletics instead as it's my one sporting weakness!! Anyway must go and pick up the small person from my parents.
Cheerio

Well I'm finally back in the world of MSE/Old style after taking a break while OH was off on holiday but looking at the number of threads/posts I haven't read you'd think I'd been away for 6 months instead of just over 2 weeks :rotfl:
- We have our new washing machine and it's wonderful! The clothing is so dry when it comes out (as long as it has been on a full spin and not an 800) that the drying time has been cut dramatically.
- We had our prepayment gas-meter changed yesterday for a quarterly one. :T I was also expecting our electricity meter to be changed but a mix up at British Gas's end (they only put down for the gas to be changed not the leccy as well) means that the spark is coming out next Thursday (18th) to do it.
- Not so money saving has been OH's two weeks off - Our car went in for a super service (£130+) but needed work doing on it. Managed to save some money by changing the fuse on the horn/rear window heater ourselves (but it's blown again :wall:), changing the rear screen wiper ourselves (They wanted £8.99 just to GET the wiper, never mind do the work!) and during a visit to IL's we managed to scrounge a bulb for the rear fog lights from FIL, but we still had to go out and buy another bulb. We went to Halfords (only car shop as far as we knew in the town) and spent £2 ish on a pack of 2 bulbs (ended up getting two packs as we weren't 100% sure which bulb was correct) and then went into Wilkinsons and found the same bulbs for 79p for a twin pack  There are still some things wrong : chips in the windscreen, apparently the rubber on the brake peddle is missing (but it passed its MOT in April at the same garage so why didn't they spot that then?) and there is an oil leak from the sump :wall::wall::wall:Did I mention that OH now wants to buy a new car? A friend has offered him a Ford Ka for £2600 but I have no idea where we are supposed to get the money from in one lump sum.
- Went to Liverpool World Museum (free) with a packed lunch (spent a fortune on scotch eggs, pork pies, chicken legs by request and this ended up being the only trip we went on!) and ended up spending £11 on a Fair Trade orament for MIL's birthday. I'm not complaining at the fact that we got her a gift (especially as it is Fair Trade) but at the fact that my stance on gifts is switching to "only on Significant birthdays/anniversaries" (e.g. 18th, 21st, 30, 40th etc) due to having such a large extended family as soon as Christmas is over (only a couple of birthdays left this year, most are in July) we really cannot afford to keep buying people ornaments, bottle of wine/spirit etc for birthdays then the same at Christmas and still manage to pay off our debts and move to our own place *Rant off*
- Visit to IL's : £29 on petrol (does there, back, trips while there and some running around when we're back here so not so bad), a meal out for SIL's birthday (which I didn't expect) £20, a shopping trip to buy clothes for OH and myself (him : two pairs work pants, summer jacket. Me : 2 tops, 2 jeans in sale, multipack knickers and a "going out top" in the sale) came to £62 in Matalan, Debenhams giftcard purchase more clothes for him (£14.50 - £10 on a pack of 5 pairs of socks!!!!!!) and I found a cure for my travel sickness - licorice, Panda brand, which has no side effects unlike my travelsickness pills which knock me out 6 hours after taking them for at least 12 hours! Trip to Wilkinsons bought a box of borax, a sunvisor organiser and boot organiser
- Home again and another trip to Matalan down the road for more clothes for him! (jeans x 2 at £4 a pair and a bra for me supposed to be £7 but went through the till at £1:D)
- Another trip to IL's for MIL's birthday. £29 petrol again, £20 to MIL as our contribution to FILs birthday pressie from beginning of July (canadian canoe:eek:), ran a couple of errands for SIL's costing me £5+ which I didn't get back, got my two watches repaired (new batteries, not worked since Xmas) £5, meal out cost us another £10 but should have cost more, plus we paid for a minibus/taxi to get to the restaurant. Most expensive bit though was going to Jessops and buying a brand new digital camera for £114.97 (in the sale) and another £9.99 for a battery charger with 4 AA batteries.
My head hurts, I feel sick and I've been on this computer since before 9am! BEAM ME UP SCOTTTYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Totally fell off the Oldstyle wagon lately (except buying baking untensils yesterday and gettign major reductions in the BHS sale on items for the house by sifting through and picking up "wrongly" labelled sale items so got more of a reduction on some things than i was meant to!
)
Not having such a great day... yesterday i was informed i wasnt on the electoral roll (which i find bizzarre as had credit checks done on me in the past and voted - but apparently according to the estate agent nothing to do with voting huh?) So had to provide proof of address and also told work hadnt produced my reference. So had to go into to work specially to ask for one - to be told the person who could do them was off - but wages could possibly do one on her behalf but it will be tonight before i can get it.
So had to go the estate agents with my proof of address and gotta go back tomorrow with my reference... NOW just had a call from the reference agency demanding the reference or 6 months payslips by tomorrow or (and i quote) "you might end up on the street". They also saying they havent had my proof of address which the estate agent photocopied yesterday infront of me!!
To top it off... mum was shopping near my new house so went to take a peek see if the work had been done thats been promised to be done before i move in (new boiler and flooring throughout) ... looks like no one has even been AT the house since over a week ago when we were.. theres no flooring in the hall/stairs at least, no-one has moved the pile of post from behind the front door that was there then for previous occupier and even the living room door is still in the same position we left it in on the viewing.... im meant to be moving in monday!!!! Unless they are flooring the entire house and fitting a new combi boiler tomorrow i dont think its gonna be done in time - which means i wont be able to move in monday - which adds more problems as i need to have certain items moved in there next week!
I knew something would go wrong - nothing ever goes right for me
Edited to add: Oh and my cooker i wanted to order is out of stock and it takes 7 days to deliver when in stock so could be long time before i can get it0
