    Morning!

Woke up to a power cut again this morning so I wasnt too pleased, and ended up being a bit shirty with the boyf because I couldnt have a cup of tea (oops) - im sure he'll understand though!!

He has another interview today so fingers crossed that goes well, having both of us in gainfeul employment would be mighty handy. Reading about everyone's job hunts brings back memories, as does paper applications taking 4 hours - I once had 5 sitting on my desk that I couldnt face! I ended up spending an entire day on them and having to take a nap half way through, it was like an all day examination.

Ive gotta run into town today and do a few bits and pieces, and aside from that my time is my own. Ive decided to make fajhitas for dinner, because it will be quick and simple and I have practically everything in.

Ive already had a quick clean this morning and as the power is working had a cup of tea. I had some cereal too, but as i dont usually eat in the morning im now feeling a little queasy, im hoping my second cuppa will make me feel better!! After that ill have a clean of the bathroom and then get ready to go out, and look forward to getting back home so I can sit on my !!!!!! again and read a magazine or watch a movie! I love not working, I wish I didnt have to!

    Jo xx

Hello everybody, hope you don't mind if I join you for a minute on my coffee break?

Relaxed yet productive sort of w/e for us - out on Friday night, 2 mystery shopping expeditions, a trip to the local playground, and a couple of hours out at lovely local country park yesterday - which was a real find (we’ve lived 4 miles or so away from it for 4 years now – just goes to show you don’t always know what’s just on your doorstep!).

Only money spent all w/e was the meal out – a monthly “commitment” with some girls I met post-natally. We’re all in the pretty-tight-budget boat, so we choose the venue according to how flush we are! Which reminds me, also installed Save-a-Flush in the cistern.

Well, today, I’m working. Menu planning and shopping will be taken care of by dh after work, whilst I plough through the ironing. Must check on library books online (thanks for the reminder SnowyOwl!).

    Take care, All

  • Hi everyone,

Had a manic weekend so went back to work for a rest this morning. I am clearing out the main bedroom so I can decorate and thought it would be a good opportunity to 'Declutter' at the same time. Took 5 bin bags to the charity shop on Saturday - I don't know where it all comes from!

Put loads of stuff on Ebay as well on Saturday so very excited as I am quite new to this selling malarky; hoping to make a few £££ for the holiday fund. I also made £50 on handmade wedding invitations this week so as tempting as it is to spend it I've paid it straight into my savings account. I have to pay for my holiday in December; about £200 to go so should be OK provided there are no unplanned for disasters...

Not much in the way of home cooking this week I am just off to Glasgow for a few days for work so have been eating all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations trying to use up what is left in the fridge.

Good afternoon all - still full of cold - just won't shift!! DH is layed up in bed suffering too - bless him!

My parents offered to take the kids out for the day so I nearly bit their hands off in accepting - no fun being stuck in just because we're feeling unwell.

Have had a good tidy up and sort through, gave the bathroom a good going over with my vinegar mix and cleaned all the mirrors - can't belive how much time that used to take me what with cleaning, de-smearing, going back 20 mins later to de-smear again.....

Got some mince defrosting for tea - probably a pasta bake as i'm low on potatos (forgot them this week when i went shopping) Will need to adapt my menu plan for the week so that I don't go any buy any. My aim this week is to spend nothing.......I'm at a friends for lunch tomorrow so no chance of spending, working wednesday and thursday and won't be near a shop -- supposed to be off to legoland on friday, tickets already got via tesco deals and I gave my friend my share of the petrol money last week when I had some spare cash....will take picnic with us and bottles to refill rather than pay their prices.

Going to make some fridge biscuits in a bit to take with me tomorrow - got some prunes and dried apricots to add to the mix makes them very yummy.

Listed loads of bits on ebay on Saturday afternoon and have had bids on almost half already.

Got to pop off and look at booking a trip to france on saturday - my parents treat as they want to go over to buy their fags.....we tag along and buy some yummy french cheeses and bread and DD's get to practise their french.

    Have a good afternoon all.

    Afternoon everyone.

Had a fairly OS weekend, did a fortnight's shop, and avoided Tesco for many things. yay! Yesterday just sat on the beach (a quiet beach that no one knows about!) in the afternoon and read and watched the sea come in.

I have big baking plans this week. I'm out of everything. Banana oat muffins for the freezer, bread (maybe two loaves for the freezer, keep me going a while!), bread rolls for cheeseburgers, and a birthday cake for me at the weekend. My boyfriend feels bad, me making my own cake, but I love baking, and he's not altogether confident. He will be making me a roast though, my chosen birthday meal! Don't feel like going out anywhere.

Harnessed up the tomatoes at the weekend, they are like triffids, but triffids with a fighting instinct, and they're outgrowing their cage!

Made fabulous rhubarb crumble with rhubarb from the garden. I seem to have finally perfectly adapted Delia's recipe to suit me, and it was scrummy! Cheated on custard though, such a faff to make it from scratch! (I wanted to, believe me, but HOW many egg yolks???!!)

SO, hope you all have a lovely Monday.

Makro are mailing me a card! I've been meaning to join for AGES but am dreading going with two kids. I've registered over the phone and the card should come in the next couple of days. Shoulds save a bit on catering for dd's christening this weekend (if I can resist the big packs of sweeties!)

Any recommendations of what I should be getting? I saw dishwasher tabs on special ....

    Hi,

OH has just flown off again :( !

Did the weekly shop together first, got more points on our Carrefour card, so hopefully will be able to use the vouchers when we come to France for a treaty family weekend break before Christmas. Also used some money off vouchers. Tried to buy the own brands & promos to keep costs down. Leaving in 3 weeks, so trying not to overstock, and trying to run down cupboards now, but got DS1 & 2 here, plus a visitor till next Monday, and another arriving for 5 days Wednesday, so can’t have empty cupboards. Both visitors vegetarian, so saving money on not buying fish & meat. So trying to be as Old Style as possible.

But :o , bought a super book on French style bottling & preserving in the Hypermarche, lots of different ideas, hopefully won’t get food poisoning due to atrocious French  !! Also got a new craft book too. Can’t wait to get a house & garden again of our own. Hope to house hunt a bit in September, but after that will probably be travelling with OH’s work again until Xmas.

It has been nice having a family home for the summer, even if it was rented.

Snowy Owl & Pink Fairy – Good luck with the clutter clearing, I had 9 months intensive decluttering before our last house move, wished we’d done it before!! We could actually find things :D .

Pink Fairy – We’ve swapped to the fabric bags too, and try to keep one or two in the handbag. We’ve normally picked them up cheaply for about 0.50 Euro’s when abroad in the supermarkets. We sometimes have to deliberately get the plastic ones now, when we need them :D

Tootles & Pooky – Have you tried the French supermarket loyalty cards, I’ve filled in the forms whilst here, and there is a slot on the Carrefour one for country, so it could be worth a look, we’ve filled in the form and hoping it works. The Carrefour one has one main card & 3 keyfob ones, so you could ask family/friends to use them. Just got to wait and see if it works!

    Any news on Lillibet?

    Bye for now

Discovered last night that all my pet rats have mites  Spent all today scrubbing and disinfecting cages, boiling their hammocks and three trips to the vets to get them injected with ivemetcin  A productive, if expensive day. DH only day off and we were going to go to the safari park with the free tickets we were given, still, I suppose we can go another day.
