I was sorry to read your post Bails :grouphug: , but not too surprised. It's seemed to me that you've been struggling over the last few months with various issues, some of which you shelved but the related stress/worry still leaves their marks on someone who has a tentative hold on good health. Thankfully I can't even begin to realise what it's like to have an illness like yours, so I can only make it a suggestion that you prioritise things in your life. You have done so well getting back into teaching, albeit in a small way yet, but it's something that will reap it's benefits for you mentally and financally and thereby lifting your spirits. I think that weight loss is of secondary importance, take advantage of the lack of appetite to a certain extent and just eat as healthily as you can over the the couple of weeks; don't weigh yourself to take one more little stress factor out of the equation. However the main thing (to me) is for you to remember that you are ill, you're not the once very capable, all singing all dancing Bails of yesteryear, but if you take things just one step at a time, then you will!!! Unfortunately it's not going to be overnight as you well know, so good luck and anyway we are all rooting for you :j ...
...starlight Try whatever the Dr says, but I would suggest that you stay on the chart, it's so easy to disappear for ever otherwise, and you are a very valuable member of our group here, We don't care if it's a sts each week, but we do care about you!...

ing here cap in hand really, looking for some help. I'm really struggling at the mo and would love some support as I'm stuck. I can't quite work out what's going on - my metabolism is very slow from my illness and I've not been so well lately but I don't know if this is reason enough. I'm eating whatever I want (too much) and considering this, it's amazing that I haven't put on loads of weight really. I've been the same for quite a while now and I don't know where to go with it. I thought of listening to my body again and ONLY eating when I'm hungry but I rarely feel hungry so this could slow my metabolism down even further. I really can't face the idea of following a plan that involves weighing things or counting points (because of my history) and I don't want the WL to be the most prominent thing in my life - getting well is my priority. I know this sounds like I'm being defeatist but I'm really not - I do want to lose the weight but it's a fine balance between making progress and becoming obsessive (which'll lead to disaster). Can anyone help me please? It's so difficult to know how much of this is me ie I can control and how much is out of my hands ie illness-related. Any help/reminders gratefully received, things seem to have completely escaped me
Heya bails, we are in a similar-ish boat when it comes to hating the counting and the weighing although you have the added hurdle of the illness as well. I restarted and rethought my whole approach this week as I was letting myself go and my skin was suffering (I normally have good skin and hair but lately I've just been stressed out and feeling tired and haggard....I don't mind being like that Terry P character...Fat but with Good hair :-p)
Anyhow...You're listening to your body approach is hard but you know you can make it work. You just need a bit of dietry time out to help you through the sticky patch...I'll share some of the things I'm endeavouring to do...see if they help...
Things I've done this week. I have bought a water bottle so now I can take 500mls of squash to work (I know the water debate rages on but upping your intake a little will help if you naturally don't drink enough. and if you do drink enough then a little more won't hurt...don't go for silly numbers just an extra glass (I'm hoping this will help my skin).
I bought some bulgur wheat (I think this is a low GI one so would fit in with your Pat Hollford thing - I think that's your thing anyhow...memory is going...) and I cooked up enough for four people...then I chopped up a lot of salad put it all in a large tupperware box and shake it all about then decant into four lunchbox sized containers...thats your lunch made for the next four days...you don't have to think about it and its there...you can add what you like on top..prawns, meat eggs just to pepp it up a bit. (make the bulgar wheat with stock...mines lacking in flavor at the mo).
Your metabolism is slow coz of your illness so do your body a favour...instead of concentrating on the volume of food you are mucnhing why not say...I'm hungry so I must need some energy but what can I stuff down that will give my body a fighting chance....this naturally means that you'd end up upping the veg and fruit count (again...make a fruit salad, shove it in a lock box and you can munch to your hearts content.).
If you think not feeling hungry is an obstacle then divide up some nice bits of food and give yorself a regular snack attack...babybel at 11..orange at 2...crackers at 3...whatever you like...little and often and maybe that will rebalance you into feeling hungry or if not then at least your body is getting some fuel to keep it going.
The sun is out so sit on your doorstep for 10 mins I'm finding sunshine makes me happy and a happy person is naturally more optimistic and has a better approach to things. Oh and buy yourself a big bunch of Daffs!
So maybe instead of thinking of the lose weight terms you could think of nutritional value? Just looking at a well stock fruit bowl makes me smile.
Dunno if that makes sense....but it's your health that counts. It is possible to be overweight and healthy (for a while I know its not good long-term).0 -
Hi Bails, I just read your signature and you have already lost loads of weight. You should pat yourself on the back for that. I know how hard it is to lose weight when you have an illness and you have gone back to work too. I really admire you for what you have managed to achieve. You are my role model! Last night I was so hungry that I ended up eating a dry jacket potato before bed! At 6pm I went in the bath because I was hungry!! I ate a banana, apple and pear in bed too
I forgot to say I was still enjoying SW online, don't know if I am losing weight this week but it does stop me feeling so guilty when I can't stop eating.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Hello hello all.
Quite annoyed and very bored.
Gained again this week, a whole 1.6 lb  My ankle is still hurting, so I've decided not to go to the gym all week. Which is annoying me too, as I was getting into it, and the drop in exercise means I won't be losing as quick as possible.
Sigh <insert fed up smilie>

Hi everyone,
I'm reporting a 2lb loss this week :j . I think I'm finally back on track.
Bails, I'm sorry you're struggling at the moment. I'm not sure what to say as the way I stick to plan is by writing down everything I eat. I lose the plot if I don't, but thats me:rolleyes: .
Getting well is obviously your priority so maybe you should slow down the dieting for a while until you're able to concentrate on it. I would just try to keep it in control and not completely lose the plot. Maintaining is better than gaining.
In the meantime, you know you will get lots of support here anytime you need it. I can't find a smillie for hug but thats what I'm sending you!

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, SO MUCH. Some great advice for me to mull over xxxxxxxx
Starlight, hugs, I think the doctor's advice is great. Raph, sorry about your frustration, have you seen the doctor? Depending on what they say, how about non-weight bearing exercise like swimming to keep you ticking over? You can still cross train in the pool and get a really good workout, or a water circuits class?

Bails...
Your PM box is always full so I thought I'd share this with the rest of the class
Just thought I'd give you a quick update. I started all those things in my post yesterday and I ate myself silly....
I had the salad I mentions, a banana, pear, grapes tangerines, honey loops for brekkie and then coz I was going to the gym late I had a turkey sandwich and a hot cross bun then when I got back from the gym it was breaded fish and savory rice salad and two cobs of sweetcorn, followed by a yogurt...oh and just to rebel even more against the healthiness of my munchings 4 bourbon biccies got devoured ...
The point to this rambling was that although I technically failed at being good with the whole extra sandwich, bun and biccies today I am managing much better today as I didn't feel deprived at all yesterday...so if you maybe concentrate on devouring the fresh and other healthy stuff as well as the erm...nicer bits....it might pay off after a few days....
now I'm off for a brew and some ginger nuts...
Keep the faith it all comes out in the wash and bigger picture.0 -
Oops, my PM box is always full
- I will clear it out fully this week (I'm such a hoarder
). Thanks for that Serendis, keep me posted...
I now have 6 work-free days (and possibly more if I go to Brighton) so I am going to spend the time reflecting (among other things) and see where I am with it all.
Can I just ask, KPC or anyone else, how do I find the Recipe threads - know you post on there a lot, but can't ever seem to find what I'm looking for; any advice?
Also, anyone else out there got GL recipes at all? (think I've asked before but new peeps since then). Thanks xxThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000
