Shutting 11 year old in bathroom

  • Doesn't sound too harsh to be honest. Obviously I don't know the girl in question, but maybe she should learn to behave herself?

Too many kids these days are allowed to run riot without fear of punishment/reprisal because of our overly PC society.
  • It is cruelty if the dad locks the bathroom window and drops a bomb in there before hand. :)

Why is it that dads @rses always smell the worst?
  • And people wonder why the kids of today are out of control, no discipline whatsoever, simply locking them in a room does nothing, give them a good hard slap then lock them in the room.

  • How pointless. What does this teach a child (especially one so old) about communicating:confused:
  • I'm surprised at how many people don't think it's a big deal. I think it's disgusting, locking a child in another room. What exactly are they trying to teach her?

That said, it is not abuse, so I'd keep your nose out. Everyone is entitled to parent as they see fit, we don't all have to do it the same way.

I am not comfortable with the thought of a child being locked in room as a punishment. I think that there are other ways of dealing with this (taking away phone/msn/playstation etc), that would be more suitable - and more of a deterrant in my opinion. 'Imprisoning' someone seems wrong.

I have to agree with above. Obviously none of us knows this girl or her family but do know that if she became out of control and started getting into trouble the first thing people would say is that 'it's the parents fault' for not disciplining at all. So few options are available as punishments to try to instil in children that it is not acceptable to just behave as you want, that in the scheme of things I don't think this is cruel.

The saddest thing of all to me, is that at age 11, she will never understand until she grows up and perhaps has children of her own, just HOW WONDERFUL and what a luxury it would be to have a full, uninterrupted 30 mins in the bathroom, i quite envy her;) ;);)
  • Don't really like locked in, although being sent to a boring room is a good way of letting them calm down. Some kids however would not stay there unless it was locked. As long as ther parents are within earshot and the child knows that then I don't think it is a problem. (edited to add - having thought about it a bit more, I really don't think they should be locked in).

A terrible punishment for my son as a teenager would be to be given £50 and told he WOULD go to a night club, WOULD stay there until 5 in the morning and WOULD NOT be allowed to leave until the £50 had been spent on fags/alcohol/ other drugs to be consumed by him.:rotfl:

    We got off lightly.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • its morally wrong and teaches the child nothing at all. the worry is its the thin end of a wedge ie that doesnt have the desired effect-what next??
even god cant change the past-no matter how many times i cry
