Thanks BexTech that works a treat. I had to set the Sip domain/proxy to freecallusername@sip.voiparound.com

Can you make use of voIPTalk's voicemail for free with the setup you suggested?

    Thanks again

Not sure about the voicemail, as I never use voicemail on my usual contactable numbers.

I'm one of the people who don't like friends and family paying for not being able to get through to me. Same reason as once I get someones 1571 / voicemail system, I never call them again.

I do however have a number with Sipgate that is used only for voicemail, so people can call that number and leave a message if the can't contact me by any other means, but it's their choice to pay to leave a message.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • I'm having trouble dialing 0870 numbers with Voipcheap. Has anyone else experienced that?

(i'm using the voipcheap .exe and other numbers work, it says the number is invalid)

It's rare that I have called an 0870 number, but when I have they have worked for me so far. Have you tried entering it as +44870nnnnnnn? Also have you tried https://www.saynoto0870.com to see if there is the actual number this 0870 lands on?

  • Thanks. I used saynoto0870 to call a non geographic number. I never get any success bypassing the 0870 number (they always just flat refuse to help over the local number, some are even angry), but they did let me know that I was dialling the wrong number!

    Thanks

Can someone provide an update of which providers offer free calls to UK landlines with VOIP?

I have been with Sipdiscount for the last 9 months but they are no longer free.
Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.
  • I'm getting a 1/2 sec delay, cut outs and echo of my own voice (the echo is delayed so not my PC and using headphones). I still use it for calls but I don't like to use it for calls to employers etc.

    Anyone else experience this?

I think the cut outs are due to my wireless router but I'm not sure about the echo and delay. The delay seems to be less with numbers in the same geographical area as my VoIP in number, but it's hard to tell.

I even bought a VoIP phone for it but it needs a 16V AC power supply that I can't find anywhere or even make using 2 power supplies.

All in all - not such a great saving at all!

I don't get any problems, just clear / crisp calls, but then I am using an ATA and my own home phones.
